Personal Narrative: My Family Trip To Florida

Throughout the trip the grandmother rambles on about the past how children had respect for their elders and people respected each other, her youth, and her past maiden courtship with Mr. Edgar Atkins Teagarden “E.A.T” and his Saturday watermelons with his initials carved into them. During the trip they make a lunch stop at a rundown gas station “The Towers” where you will find “RED SAMMY’S FAMOUS BARBACUE”, “THE FAT BOY WITH THE HAPPY LAUGH” run by Red Sammy Butts and his wife outside of Timothy, Georgia. The family has their lunch and grandmother finds a listening agreeable ear about how much better their past was compared to these days.

As the family is driving along, the grandmother awakens from a nap and recalls “an old plantation that she had visited in this neighborhood once when she was a young lady” (189). This recollection happens while the family is driving through the town of Toomsboro, GA. The grandmother is extremely manipulative and selfish and coaxes the family into visiting the old plantation by lying to them with the possibility of finding hidden treasure. My best moment was when i went to the Florida Keys over Christmas break in 2015. It was a two week trip just on our way to the Keys. On our way we stopped at the Creation Museum down in Kentucky and we stayed at my grandpa’s house in Maranatha Village down in Sebring Florida. When we finally got down to the Keys i couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The water was that beautiful blue color and there was nothing but colorful coral and crystal blue water everywhere. I see a beach over the sand. I saw the restaurant and it smells good to eat. The squalls come and get the fishes. I feel the wind over my face. What beautiful beach and lots of people play. It was five in the morning, and the day was opening up for a good time in Oxford, that would also bring a trip to Florida, the birds were tweeting, the sky was blue, and the animals were all awake and ready for the day! I get dressed and ready, and go downstairs for breakfast. When I reach the kitchen, I look in the cupboards for something to eat. Then when i found what I wanted, i ate it. I was extremely happy and I felt that everything was going perfectly.

Even though she did not want to travel to Florida, the grandmother was the first in the car the next day. The grandmother was prepared as “She had her big black valise that looked like the head of a hippopotamus in one corner, and underneath it she was hiding a basket with Pitty Sing, the cat, in it (O’Connor 853)”. During the trip, the grandmother took a nap, and when she woke up she realized they were outside of Toombsboro. She remembered an old plantation she had visited when she was a young lady. The grandmother knew Bailey would not want to stop and view the old plantation, so she kept talking about it hoping to convince the family. She succeeded as the kids were eager to see the old plantation but Bailey told them no. The kids began to scream and bicker at their father “John Wesley kicked the back of the front seat and June Star hung over her mother’s shoulder and whined desperately into her ear that they never had any fun even on their vacation, that they could never do what they wanted to do (O’Connor 857)”.

My love for the great state of Florida began when the first time I heard the name. I was in the first grade at Far West Elementary in California. It was just like any other ordinary elementary school day. Until when my principle walked in into my classroom and she introduce a transfer student named Tim. She had asked Tim a few questions, one of the questions was, where did he move from? Tim answered, with a big smile on his face Florida. Everyone in the class got really quite, and looked at him in amazement. That’s when my best friend Bryant started to explain to us, that’s where Mickey Mouse is at Disney World. Sight and hearing are just two of our five senses. Losing only one of them would be awful. How would you react if you were told that you had three days left to see and hear? The problem is that nobody truly appreciates what they have until it’s gone. “Sometimes the best way to appreciate something is to be without it for a while,” -Unknown.

Today, we still turn to water for a sense of calm and clarity. For me, nature can be really therapeutic and smoothing in order for me to focus on different tasks. In fact, I am doing this assignment while I am at my lake house, Oconee. One of the experiences that I am about to share about, took place in Balm Beach Florida, just last year. Something about the ocean that brought me sense of calmness and relaxation in order for me to finish my last day of my online classes at GPC.

My dad took me and my brother to key west over the summer. He wanted to take us in the trailer he bought, but it was cheap and often broke down, so instead we went on a plane from Des Moines to chicago, and then to Miami. When we got to key west, it was excruciatingly hot. We got off and had to wait for our bags at the bagage claim. My dad had to find a bus to take us to the car rental shop, so me and my brother waited with our bags at the front of the airport.

One day in Florida, the sun is shining two 9 years old kids were playing in the park where they found a dead body.

The first time I went to Saint Augustine, transpired in the fifth grade, for a field trip, we rode charter buses there and back, which ensued the first time I had been on a charter bus. My mother, planned to be a chaperone on the field trip, however, she just had my baby sister and could not come, nonetheless making it the first significant field trip that I went to without her. It remained incredibly cold outside when we arrived, nonetheless we all had a pleasurable time. First, we went on a tour through the oldest city in Florida’s downtown area, there we started the tour all the historical buildings and learn the history of them. First, we visited the school, a little one room shack that had held the students that were permitted to attend.

Doesn’t a vacation with a beach,good seafood and lots of family activities sound like what you need?That's exactly what i needed before i went to Destin,Florida for the first time.And Destin is the perfect place for it.In Destin my family had lots of fun.We went to the beech almost everyday and it was right across from where we were staying,we also went shopping a lot,and hung out at the harbor and had great food.
