Throughout my High School career, I have strived to be the best version of myself possible. I have grown from a scared freshman to a confident senior. Gaining confidence and leadership skills has mainly happened through my community service opportunities and growth in school. I now believe I acquire the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership and service. The way I possessed the quality of scholarship was through taking more difficult classes that challenged me all throughout high school. I have always been ahead in my math classes and taken harder english and science classes. Although I have taken harder classes, I never really felt challenged until my Junior year in my AP Biology class. In this class I learned that I needed to put
I exemplify the quality of scholarship by how I act at school. I take school seriously and enjoy it at the same time. This means that I work my hardest on every assignment, and I always put forth my
What I am going to be writing about is my Big Sun Scholarship. While growing up my parents never had a lot of money for me to play sports. Growing up I never got to play football, I did get to play baseball and basketball because it was free. Those were the only sports that I got to play even now we don’t have much money for me to go to college so it is a pick and choose college to go to for my mom to be able to afford it. Playing football in high school influenced me to want to go to college to be involved with sports as simple as an athletic trainer or something to do with sports. While playing football influenced my parents to go to games and watch me so they can be proud of me.
Coming from a disadvantaged background, my community has provided numerous opportunities to ensure I was receiving a quality upbringing. Therefore, I want to provide the same opportunities for other children plagued by financial difficulties. After my father passed away in my sophomore year of high school, I was influenced to give back to my community through the health field. I have since accepted numerous opportunities to improve the community’s health through volunteering at health campaigns, declaring my major in Public Health, and working at the Health Promotion Office at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.
When I finished high school from my home town, I decided to move to bigger city for higher study. My parents sent me to one of dad’s older brother house for stay, so I stayed there for about one year. Everybody was okay in that house except for my aunt, she never treated me good. The problem was she had two sons, so she always discriminated between son and daughter. She had a problem with the way I talk, my outfit, my hair, and many other stuffs. I had to make breakfast in the morning, then cook lunch by 11am, and I had a school from 12 pm until 3pm, and when I comeback from school, I had to cook dinner. During the weekend, I had to clean house, wash clothes, and go for grocery shopping. I was basically a servant, and I did not do well in my
High school is a major part of becoming who you want to be for the rest of your life. It's the place where you set and achieve your goals and make decisions. To help my freshman year benefit me the most i'm go to dedicate most of my time to my focus, organization, decisions, and my attitude. These 4 things will help me stay on track and help me achieve my goals.
As I sat down to write this essay, I reflected on all of my achievements during my high school years at Holy Trinity Academy, and what most accurately demonstrates my leadership skills. The most prominent leadership goal that I achieved was through my involvement in Student Council.
I really started to go and develop in the 7th grade. I started to take school seriously. Before the 7th grade, I did care about school but I wasn’t serious about it. I used to mess around with friends in class, do my work sloppy, and not taking time to study outside of school. When 7th grade started, I told myself that i gotta focus on my education because it will prep me for the following school years and develop good habits. During the year, I put school as a higher priority than other things like video games and sports. My grades were good except the one C grade I had in English class. Overall the next two years my grades were great, I had only A’s and B’s in my classes. Once I entered my sophomore year at Puyallup High School, my focus
I have entered this contest to wins a scholarship, because I am on the last leg of my journey before I graduate, in December 2017. However, for some reason I have fallen short in this spring semester with financial aid. I am Ruby J Thompson, I returned to school at the age of 48, I graduated may 2014, from Tidewater Community College Magna cum laude. As I stated earlier I returned to school at the age of 48, I was homeless and had reached a point in my life where nothing was working in my favor. Returning to school was also to show my sons that no matter what your going through in life you must press on. I had a heart problems arise my second semester, I sprained my ankle, but I never gave up. Even as I type this I am doing do with a broken
As I sat down in my chair, the waves of the Pacific washed up to my feet. The tingly sand, the scent of the Ocean, and the beautiful sunset is truly alluring. My life has been truly magnificent. However, I tune out the wonders of Hawaii and ponder something; How will others remember me? What legacy have I left behind?
8th Grade is a major turning point for students. You finally get to graduate from Middle School, and move on to High School. Along the way, you get to meet friends and learn wonderful things about history and science. However, in New Hampton, there happens to be a major field trip that really ends the year with a bang. This was the moment I was most looking forward to in my 8th Grade year, and there is no way I could leave it out. In this entry, I am going to talk about my trip to Washington D.C.
Growing up for me was rough, I grew up in Brooklyn, New York where nobody expected much from the youth. I had to be different, my only escape was school. School was the only thing that kept a smile on my face. School was my gateway to happiness. I made the choice to go to college because I wanted to learn more. I wanted to further my education so I can better myself and enlighten my community. I knew college would be expensive, but the cost did not deter me. When there is a will there is a way. The only person that helped me finance my college career was my mother. No one else tried to help me. She was the only person I had that supported me 100%. The only thing that my mother wanted me to do was promise her was that I graduate from college. School was a big thing to my mother. When it came to school she did not play. She always believed in hard work, me wanting to further my education made her proud.
My college goals and aspirations include: playing as much softball as I can. My degree and carrier plan is not defiant at this time but I am leaning to pre-med & to be a trauma surgeon. I want a college that I can build lifelong friendships & mature and grow as an individual and build character to carry with me for life.
Im writing this letter to my future self for Ms. Meyer’s English class and is to be placed in the Freshmen Time Capsule to open when I’m a senior. So I guess I’m a senior now? I hope it’s fun, Daniel is a senior right now and he seems like he enjoys being at the top of the high school food chain. I recently finished my first soccer season on the high school team, and I’m getting ready for the upcoming track season. I hope to be on the 4x8 team again this year with Rachel and Gillian, and we really want Sydney to be the fourth spot runner for our team (even though she really doesn’t want to). I can’t wait to get my restricted drivers license. It took forever for me to get my permit and I was kind of mad at dad for not getting it for me earlier but I guess he’s “really busy”. Freshman year is going really well so far, I have really good grades in all of my classes and I’m having a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see what the next years of high school have in store!
I would definitely give myself a scholarship because I would instantly notice how well-rounded I was in high school. The first aspect of my high school career is my academic success. Since freshman year, I always challenged myself in school by taking as many honors/AP courses as possible. My main target was always an A, and by looking at my transcript, one can see that I hit that target many times. I also had to attend summer school each year to complete social science courses to make space for band over the regular school year. In addition, I integrated a study schedule for standardized tests into my daily schedule. This paid off immensely when I earned great scores on both the SAT and ACT, a silver medal on the National Spanish Exam, and recognition as a 2016 AP Scholar. Adding on to my academic success, I earned a spot in the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society.
My first positive experience with school work was when I wrote a short story essay for my high school English class. Later in life, I found that I loved to write almost as much as I loved to read.
