My home, Plymouth, Wisconsin, is a typical midwestern town located about 15 miles west of Lake Michigan and 45 minutes north of Milwaukee. With a miniscule population of about 8,400 people, it radiates peace and humility. An accurate description to capture the essence of my place include the words small, farms, corn, cows, cheese, hills, calm, and friendly. Plymouth is home to numerous large cheese production and packaging companies, which I suppose is a fitting role for a town belonging to “the cheesehead state”. Main Street, the most popular and crowded area in the community is lined with two-story brick buildings constructed almost 200 years ago. There, many small businesses can be found such as a trophy shop, breakfast diner, and hair salon. You can almost always find a friendly face there to brighten your day as most residents are caring and helpful people. At the beginning of the main road lies a giant hill that’s home to a Catholic church. At night, you can stand at the top of …show more content…
As ridiculous as that might sound, it’s a very well known historical marker around the area and tourists jump at the chance to get their picture taken with it. Named Antoinette in 1992, the icon represents the Holstein--a dairy cow that has greatly contributed to the agriculture based economy that Plymouth thrives on. The Mullet River, known for being somewhat musky, weaves its way from one side of town to the other. Although it isn’t the cleanest water, it sparkles in the light of the sweltering sun, providing ideal fishing locations for children and adults as well. Along the outskirts of town, farm animals playing an important role in the agribusiness, including cattle and chicken wander the rugged hills. The back country roads, winding and coiling through the hills and golden fields of corn at sunset are an unimaginable sight of tranquillity and
It was a small town in Cornersville, Ohio. Nothing much ever happened in this small town until one day. A new family moved in one afternoon. Everyone was surprised because no one even noticed the house being built. Everyone was still delighted that they moved in because the couple, Bob and Nancy, were very friendly. Bob and Nancy helped with all the activities in town and were very generous. A couple of weeks after they moved in, a lot of strange things began. Money started disappearing, the lights in the town went out every night except for Bob and Nancy's lights, even people's pets went missing. One night, everyone's lights went out at 11:30 as usual, except there was an extremely loud noise. The neighbors went outside to see where all the
Where I come from it's taking pride in your yard, knowing every single one of your neighbors, and leaving doors unlocked because there isn’t a thing to worry about. I find comfort in that small town feel, and I am more than proud to be from good ol’ Warrenton, Indiana. Here, we are just a wee bit shy of being big enough to be on a map, but we have a name and we have town lines. Within those lines nearly two hundred people have found a home, and thanks to Mr.Dave Gruible our community is steadily flourishing. There are now three subdivisions on the rise in addition to the church, salon, family restaurant, and campgrounds that nestled into the area years ago.
Michigan's capital and my current place of residence. DeWitt is wonderful place for children to spend their early years, and for many of my acquaintances, still a nice place to live. When I was young, Dewitt was a growing and friendly community. The atmosphere was brimming with positive attitudes and possibilities. It sounds corny, but honestly driving down the street, with every waving arm offering a warm welcome, you would think you entered a cheesy family sitcom neighborhood.
My trips to Wisconsin were very fantastic. Both times we went were for weddings. My mother jokingly called them “The Weddings of the Century.” They might not have been the weddings of the century, but they were very extravagant.
When people ask me where I live, I simply reply, “Boston.” This is both somewhat true and misleading at the same time; the reality is that I do live in Boston, but not the prominent and well established part that many people are familiar with. I really live in Dorchester, part of the inner city of Boston; however, during the school year I spend the majority of my time in the dorms at my school in Belmont. Whenever I tell my friends from my neighborhood that I spent a year aboard in Spain, they look at me like I’m crazy and ask, “Isn’t that the type of stuff you do in college?” I mean, studying abroad is something many people pursue in college, but nowadays its possible to do it high school too, but they wouldn’t know that because it’s not something
Even though I was born in Neptune, New Jersey I feel very valiant to say that I cannot pinpoint a place where I grew up. My whole life consists of me, on average, moving every three years and all I can say is that I would not have it any other way. I was only three months old my first move from New Jersey to Rhode Island. In my life, I have lived in 7 states, 11 towns and 15 houses. Although, if I were to pick a place to say ‘where I grew up’ it would either be Arizona or Pennsylvania considering I have lived in both of those states for around seven years. Growing up in both of those states are obviously complete polar opposites. For example, growing up in Arizona as a kid I always remember I lived in this small little neighborhood from when
In the United States nowadays, many people live in big cities where the population is twenty-five to thirty thousand people. These cities may have every restaurant you can think of, but they aren’t always the safest place to be. This is why much of the populace enjoy living in a small town.
There is one thing I would like to point out on a rest stop we went to. There was another RV there who was on their trip to the Midwest (I think they said . We were talking with them and Charlye who has a kind heart asked them if they would like our left over food. We explained we were headed home to Sacramento and would love for them to take the cans with them. They were more than happy to take what ever we could give them. Tommy and I were boxing up the food for them and discovered some sausages (3 packages) in the freezer that never was used and a quart of unopened ice cream. We decided to give it to them. We asked if we could pray for them for a safe trip (they were happy to know we are Christians). They left with smiles on their faces.
I look around and I see an astonishing mansion. We were in one of his many living rooms, and this one had dark grey walls, brown recliners that look fresh out of the store. On the walls there were Four ultra HD TVs that covered the whole wall. This was the greatest man cave I have ever been in. The games that were on were the Clippers playing the Timberwolves, the Heat playing the Pacers and the Lakers playing the Celtics. The last game was on commercial break.
I, Adnan Sabbag, laid trembling in the safety of my bed on the second floor of my family's small Boston house. My father, Nizar, sat next to me, stroking me in a failed attempt to calm my fears. I have seen many things in my life. Syria. War. Turkey. The United States. And today, a hurricane.
A few years ago we went to Wisconsin for a hunt test for one of our dogs. She passed her Saturday test and we immediately started driving home. When it was late we stopped at a hotel for the night. When I woke up in the morning it was a warm, sunny Sunday. I put my hair in a quick, sloppy bun and took a shower. After taking a shower I forgot my hair was in a sloppy bun and we left. I of course hadn’t brushed it since it was in a bun. I always brush my hair before we go in places. My hair was extremely bedraggled! After an hour we stopped for gas. I went into the gas station with Daddy to pay and saw some people. A few hours later we stopped at Walmart to buy lunch and saw several people. I noticed a couple people glance at me like
On a fateful Fourth of July in 2014 I was sure my future life would reside in Chicago, Illinois. That city was a major part in my past and I would like it to be apart of my future too. The aesthetic beauty of it made me love the place.
"Janelle! Janelle, girl get up." I was shook out of my sleep. I opened my eyes and looked over at my alarm clock. It was 7 and today I started my new entry job at Atlantic records. It was nothing but a little entry job, working in the office versus the studio. But it was all in the same building. I got up and walked tiredly to the bathroom where I turned the shower on. I remember when I applied for this job. The people back home thought I was crazy when I got accepted and I decided to move all the way across the country from Rhode Island to LA. But I was sick and tired of the small town life. I went to college and got my degree in Music Management and if I kept up the way I was, I would have wasted another 10 years of my life thinking on shoulda,
I just have some questions about this town, things I’ve been trying to figure out.”
Last summer, when I went to visit my aunt in Michigan. She took me to her cabin in the wilderness. I taught it was going to be boring but actually it was fun.
