When I was in the 12th grade I got the opportunity of a life time to go all the way to San Diego California with my FCCLA student organization. Coming all the way from hot a humid city filled Atlanta Ga, to beautiful sunny, beach covered California sounded like a dream. When I got off the plane I was so excited my face was red my body was twitching and the anticipation of getting out of that mall like airport made me even more ready to see San Diego in all its glory.
Next we got to our hotel the sky was as blue as the water and the breezes felt so nice on my tired cramped up neck from being on the plane for 4 hours. I met people from japan, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico
Secondly after we got settled we went to the San Diego zoo, which
When my mom, dad, sister, and I woke up at three a.m. on Saturday, I felt such a buzz of excitement, that I wasn't even tired! This was going to be my first time out of the country! My family quickly got ready and ate breakfast. Then, we drove for about thirty minutes to get to the airport.
Although the drive was three hours the time went fast before I knew it we were at the airport.
It was mid-winter of 1848, I was doing my daily chores when my neighbor brought news that two days earlier, on January 24, James W. Marshall made a discovery of gold on his piece of land in California. At first, I didn’t think that this would affect me in any way, but then I realized I could start a new life in California filled with gold and fortune, away from my small farm in Missouri. I decided to pack up my things and start on my long journey to California, I packed enough food, water, and supplies to last me a few months. The next morning I was surprised to see that not many others from my town were seeking gold, I knew it was unsafe for me to travel alone, but I was sure I’d meet others along the way.
Last summer before school started my sister and I were told that we were going on a trip to Ute Lake in New Mexico. We had never been to New Mexico before, so we were super excited. We were told that we were taking my dad's cousin's jet ski with us. My sister and I could not wait to go to New Mexico.
My brother, my mom, his friend, and I was going to a Vacation for the weekend, driving to San Diego. We've admire and took picture of the sun setting the ocean with the rippling flow and could hear the noise of the ocean fresh breezes, when we got the hotel we was all tired, but we had to get registered a room to go to sleep in. The next day my mom , my brother, and his friend went somewhere without me, selling puppy's to two people. When I waked up and notice that they was gone, I called my mom and said," Mom where are you guys, and long has it been since you guys left," she said, " three hours, and selling the puppy's right now, but it will take a while when come back, so get ready to go get something to eat, ok," ok," I said. when I was
Ever since I found out my softball team could make it to California for Nationals I knew this would be our goal for the summer. Now here is where the challenging part came in, we only had three chances to make it to California. We made it, we were lucky enough to make our goal in the third chance.
Throughout my short life in Southern California, I have encountered a multitude of different natural disasters, strange weather patterns and a shift in climate. There have been three distinct phases of my life in which the occurrence of all of these can be found.
The day has finally come to go on vacation and my family, and I departed promptly from our house at 4:30 in the morning. Our flight was scheduled for 7 in the morning at Pittsburgh International Airport. We had to arrive there early because all people flying international had to be there two hours before the flight. All of us boarded the flight out to Punta Cana, which is located in the Dominican Republic. I can remember that I was so excited to go, and I was the first on the flight. I am almost positive that it took over three hours to get to the Dominican Republic from Pittsburgh. It was a really long flight to me because I could not wait to get there, and I just wanted to land. Finally, the moment has come, and we landed. When we departed from the plane, they had hula dancers dancing around us, and it was the coolest thing I have ever seen. They had people that would take pictures of you when you got off the plane. My family and I obliged and got our pictures taken. After all our pictures were taken, we went inside the airport and
The airport was huge, it was filled with people going different places so it was hard for us to walk fast or anything. We luckily got to our flight on time and sat and waited to board our next flight. It was time to board, our last flight to be in a whole different face of the world. Getting on this flight was very relaxing knowing we are getting closer and closer to our destination, we got seated with smiled on our faces. I was still pretty exhausted so I leaned the chair back and out I went again. Waking up we were on the downhill slide of the plane ride, the plane was decreasing evaluation getting closer to the ground which lead us to land. Landing was smooth, which made it a lot
I step off the plane grateful for the safe landing as I wait for the my family to get out of the plane, my little brother comes out with his hair all messed up and matted from the long flight, he gets airsick . While we walk to the baggage claim I look around trying to absorb everything around me thinking, “so this is what it's like in America”. Remembering how sad it was to leave behind all my friends especially Claire and Bella, the airport in France was just a cryfest, we were hugging so long they had to ask us to stop unless we wanted to miss the flight. They both shouted YES! But I knew I had to go, I waved to them until they were just little specks in the backround.
I felt the heat as soon as the door opened. We went to baggage claim and off to hotel we went. In a bus we drove to our resort along with a tour guide. We had arrived and our real adventure began. We were all very excited.
The flight to New York was my first time flying in a plane. I was so scared at first because I have seen how big a plane was before, but I had never been in one before. That was my first time ever being that high off the ground and I had gotten to sit by the window. What made it even scarier, but after a little while I was okay after I got used to it and I was okay. The flight was 14 hours from Miami to New York. I ate pizza and I played
When someone imagines the ideal high schooler, the social norm seems to always be staying up late, and waking up early. But this trend has taken a toll on the student’s brain. The problem with early start times in schools is that kids are just too tired to think at 7 or 8 o’clock in the morning. This is important because this topic is a common issue right now in schools. Palm Desert High School has a late start on Wednesday’s because it gives teachers the time to have their meetings, but it also gives us high schoolers an extra hour or so of sleep. According to the article “Sleep in Adolescents (Thirteen-Eighteen Years),” the average amount of sleep high schoolers get is between 7 and 7 1/2 hours. High Schoolers should be getting between 9 and 9 1/2 hours but most teenagers need 9 1/2 hours of sleep. Late start values kid’s education and thinking abilities by letting them get more sleep
Over break my sisters and I went to Santa Cruz. We had rented a small house by the beach and spent much of our time just hanging out together watching movies on the couch. Every night we would turn on the electric fire. There was only one bedroom and the couch turned into a bed so I went and laid down by the fire, my water glass in hand. It was cold outside and the fire was just the right temperature. I laid there with a pillow, my back to the fire as I read a book on kindle and listened to music. After a while the heat from the fire become a bit stifling. I stayed there anyways because I was too tired to get up. Instead of moving away I decided to just have some of my water. It was after I had ended up drinking the whole glass that a perfect
For seventeen years of my life, San Fernando is all I have ever known. I have grown familiar with the faces I see on my walk to school and regular trips to the supermarket. The Hispanic culture is represented well in my city through the beautifully painted murals spread across the streets and the small stands that sit on the sidewalk distributing staple Mexican treats. Living in the same town my whole life makes me crave change and diversity. I know Brown will be the step I need to seize to quench my curiosity of what the rest of the world has to offer.
