My Northern State University (NSU) American Indian academic advisor, Lara Nelson has inspired me and encouraged me for the two years of my collegiate career to be extremely involved and active in leadership roles. She is the leader of the Native American Student Association at NSU as well, and has encouraged me to be an active participant in the association and consequently, I was elected as the treasurer of the association in September 2016 and I also serve as student advisor on the NSU American Indian Advisory Committee which serves under the direction of the university’s Provost. In these positions, it is necessary for me to communicate and organize so that we can fulfill the organizations goals. We have been instrumental in helping shape
East Carolina University is and has always been a dream school for many students including myself. I have grown up hearing about the University and it is nothing short of spectacular. Many family members of mine have attended East Carolina, and I have always pictured myself at this school. It would be an honor to be a pirate. Throughout high school I have struggled in Science and Math. I know I could have done better in high school but in life you can always do something better, im eager to push myself more and work harder than ever to succeed as an adult, if given the chance There are many times when I should I have put school in front of my extra curricular activities such as dancing, art, work, tennis, and swimming. However, all of those
I would be lying if I said Rock Valley College was my first choice when it came down to choosing a place to continue my studies. Then again, like many others students, I didn’t have a
When I think about what I could contribute to Florida A&M University based on the knowledge that I do have with your institution is that i’m a extremely committed student who has beliefs that you can do anything that you set your mind to. There may be some times when I may feel discouraged but why must if I feel like that if things aren’t easily handed to you. You must chase your dreams, and when you do that things will slowly fall into place (not exactly how you planned for it to be at times). I learned that through the many obstacles I had to experience to make me the well informed women I am today. The best activity, interest, experience, and achievement in my life was being a Big member of “Big brother, big sister”. Becoming a mentor for
Wilmington started out as home, then became just a vacation. After years of moving and resisting the pull to move back, I finally made the best and brightest decision I think I have ever made. I am moving home, and in the process, I thought there would be no better place to further my education than The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I have recently taken a year off in between high school and pursuing my college education, and frankly, I think it has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life. I have learned to appreciate everything that was taught by my parents and the schooling I have received. In that year I took part in America's workforce constantly facing the struggles of being independent and caring for myself,
Finding a interesting topic to write about, is challenge on Louisiana College’s campus, but with a little patience and observation, unique stories are scattered amongst the staff and student body. It didn’t take me long to wander into the student center to find a story or interview that would spark my interest. Walking down the hall I approached one of the most important offices on campus. No, it’s not the president’s office, but the Nurse’s office which I’ve seen many times. I had a feeling that this place would be full of stories and experiences that would give me the interview that I needed to boost my grade. I wanted to do an interview about something that I care about and is important to shed light on. I thought about how I often forget one of the most important things in my life, which is health and the people who work to keep us healthy.
On Thursday, August 20th 2015 I was accepted into College of Southern Nevada. On Friday, August 21st, 2015 I arrived onto the CSN West Charleston Campus at around seven o'clock in the morning to be one of the first people to take the math, reading, and writing placement tests for the day. After I took the placement tests, I went to the Student Recruitment office and spoke to a woman named Kimiko Walton. I told Kimiko about what happened to me and she recruited me. Afterwards, I purchased my textbooks from the bookstore (a typical mistake made by college freshmens). As I existed the double doors of the CSN bookstore, I told myself: "Nobody can give me the life I deserve expect myself..." On
A warm Summer morning I had a breakthrough of what I was going to do with the rest of my life and to chose what schools I wanted to go to. This was the day where I started to plan on what and where I was doing. This was the reason why I chose these two schools Drury University and Northern State University. These two schools have a swimming program I want to go into and see how they compare to each other. Then the cost of what they are to each other and the size of them.
Everyone in my family has attended college and has done something with their lives and I plan on continuing the cycle. In the fall of 2017 I will be attending Sam Houston State University. My major will be kinesiology because sports has always been a part of my life and I couldn’t imagine myself going through life without doing something related to sports.
Since I got to Texas State University, I have had a lot of busy weekends because I play for the tennis team and we travel a lot. The first tournament we played was here in our tennis complex, and it was a great experience. We played against St Edwards University, and although there were difficult matches and it was very hot, our team got the win.
After graduating from TCU I hope to discover that I am equipped with a superb education and that I am more than qualified to compete for employment in the global market. The internships I serve, while attending TCU, would have made my resume stand out from the rest. I would hope to discover that because of my experiences at TCU, I am able to do great things throughout the world, connecting with the very accomplished alum from TCU. I also believe that having attended TCU would only continue to strengthen my Christian
During this past year, in the fall I transferred to Oklahoma State University from Rose State College. I was not sure how this transition would work out, but in the end, the transition went very smoothly. During my first semester at OSU, my schedule worked out where I would only have classes Tues-Thurs, which I enjoyed because I had extra time to work on homework on Mondays and Fridays. During my second semester, I had classes every day of the week, which was not favorable but that was the only option that worked with my schedule.
My experience at the arch makes me wonder if the University of Georgia purposefully put up a plaque honoring Confederate students and teachers beside the first black student’s hall. There are many other amazing professors that have gone through the UGA system before 1991, so was this a direct jab at the Hunter and Holmes Hall? Honestly, I do not believe this invalidates anybody’s rights. Ultimately, this just makes people uncomfortable to remember such a dark time in American history. It does not make sense why Athens would want to promote such a horrible memory like the Civil War to outshadow such a great victory for civil rights.
As my first year at Morehead St. University, I have notice there is a small racial of diverse students. This school is predominately white and in a small town in Eastern Kentucky, it can be very intimidating to a few people. Recently, I observe SOARS (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration), which is were incoming freshman students come to Morehead and go to different seminars to get familiar with their future school. I notice the small amount of African Americans who attended the seminar. In the presentation video, I noticed that they were very diverse when showing future students about the school. The few things I would change though when I watched the video was to show highlights from our sports team. Show the people how exciting Morehead can be when coming to a sports event. Being a basketball player I know students enjoy coming to a game especially when we have our rivalry. Our rivalry games are against Eastern Kentucky University, Belmont or Murray St. University.
Today, I was impressed with the show that Kentucky State University put on. If were in high school after seeing what I saw today and hearing what I heard today....well I would be sold on Kentucky State. I did not see any representation from Central State today. Why was that? It's a 30 minute drive. I love IMM but WE have to do
The past three years at UNC Greensboro have been truly amazing for me in terms of being an active and involved student. My freshman year, I was not sure what I wanted to get involved in so the first things I chose to do were join an organization called Human Resource Management Association and participate the Bronze Leadership Challenge. The Bronze Leadership Challenge was definitely a great way for me to become involved because not only did I meet new people but, I was able to get out into my community and volunteer with the Interactive Resource Center providing help and assistance to those experiencing homelessness. As for HRMA, being an HR major I figured that this organization would help me a lot in my field of study and it definitely has.
