Community is the often missing link in a world marked by self-interests and cynicism; it fosters affinity, understanding and unified action. What I found within my passion for weightlifting is an extraordinarily powerful, diverse foundation of strong-minded individuals united in one core purpose: to improve themselves. Yet, this purpose is by no means self-centered; for it is not so much the weights as it is the sense of togetherness and selfless commitment to one another that has brought me to love the sport. When I joined the gym almost two years ago as an unknowing underclassman—however eager for an environment of knowledge and positivity—I was, at first, uncomfortable with seeking help. As time passed and I became more comfortable in

Have you ever had a person in your life you never thought you could be friends with, but you ended up being best friends? Picking a point in my life that I know impacted my life in just one choice was easy. For me, Joining Cannon Falls Weightlifting team, was not only very enjoyable, but it gave me the opportunity to become friends with my now two best friends. So many questions to how in just ten months we went from strangers to best friends.
I am proud to be part of a community that supports each other, respects milestones, and strives for more accomplishments. The weightlifting community in Vancouver, British Columbia has been a vital part of my life for the past five years. Anyone can be a part of it if they have a passion for the sport and common goals. A weightlifter is supported when they ask for a spot or look for information online. They cheer you on as you seek a new personal best. When a weightlifter achieves a milestone in their weightlifting career, those around them recognize it. When I reached the milestone of being able to squat three hundred and fifty five pounds I was showered with encouragement and advice on how to improve even more. Weightlifters who are more
At my teenage age I wish I had a trainer like these guys in the video, I would have become a retired heavy weight champion of the world. That didn’t happen during my time, but for these guys here in the video I am sure they will get there. Seeing their moves indicates they are serious and ready to do the damages to their adversaries. I salute you guys and keep it
Many discourage new forms of exercise because it can be scary to try something that they have never tried before. Many who get bored easily once they mastered something and want to try their hand at something new. However many of these individuals are older and can find discouragement when seeing someone younger than them being better. However in a group setting many can find comfort with other people to give them tips and tricks as well as learning with others in the some level and
As a former gymnast, cheerleading was never something I planned on doing. In the gymnastics world, cheer was hated. Gymnasts everywhere claimed that cheerleading “stole” tumbling from us. So when I made the Junior Varsity team my freshman year, I expected the worst. Looking back, cheer has taught me more life lessons in the past four years than gymnastics ever did in the ten years I was a gymnast.
My clinical rotation for the fall semester of my junior year is with the King’s College Men’s soccer team. As an athletic training student, I hold a lot of responsibilities regarding the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of these student athletes. Most of my daily activities can be separated into three groups, the pre-practice, pre-game, during the activity, and post- practice and post-game.
Coming from a family with major and multiple health issues, I’m always trying to stay healthy and keep my body running like a well oiled machine. The best way for me to do that is the weight room. I get my blood flowing by lifting heavy weights and running on the treadmill. I drink a protein shake after words, this makes me feel physically better and a healthier person at all times. It doesn't happen right away, but over time if you keep the effort up in the weight room, you will see results. It will give you stronger attributes and better work effort. I also want to be a personal trainer, so helping others stay healthy is important to me as well. As much time as I can spend in the weight room is the best, knowing as much as I can about it as possible. I feel my hard work since i’ve started working out has paid off and I’m a healthier person all
To become an athletic trainer, one must complete courses such as Human Anatomy and Physiology as well as other courses that pertain to this major. These classes will help in learning how the body functions. I will also have to pass the Board of Certification exam and must be CAATE certified I could also volunteer at sporting events to get to know the environment around the players, coaches, and spectators from a non-athlete point of view. This could prove helpful because an athletic trainer will constantly be around sporting events and usually close to spectators, coaches, and players alike.
Coming from a high school competitor, I made the choice to dedicate time to working out. I began lifting weights in the 8th grade and since then it has been a part of my life. I went through some rough waters in high school and from that I have learned to release some of the anger, sadness, and even happiness I have into working out. It relinquishes me the time to think through every situation I have in front of me effectively. Now that I am at Iowa State the gym means more than it ever has. The work load I have received in college already exceeds the amount I ever imagined. There are many things I have to worry about now that my parents aren’t by my side all the time, so the gym is a place where I can find some composer and get through whatever I have ahead of me. The gym can be your special place too if you just manage your time and never fall behind in your school
My plans when I get older where like every other child's. I want to be in the NFL. To get where I am you have to start at a young age. I showed up at practice everyday and on time. I also studied the play sheets and went through all my routes. I studied day and night to be where I am. It wasn't easy. There was no time to play games get in trouble do drugs or hang out with friend on an everyday bases. You have to tighten up be a man. It's not like I woke up one day and I was starting running back I had to do what's right stay in school not miss a day because that one day could have been the most important day ever and I wouldn't have even known. You know why?? Because I was and didn't show up to school. Don't be that person I used to be.
On 03/03/2017 at approximately 0900 hours, I woke up and started getting ready for the gym. I drank my pre-workout drink and left my house for the gym. On my way to the gym, i stopped to one-stop nutrition shop for a protein shake. I worked out on my shoulders in the gym. On my way to home from the gym, i stopped at a hot bagel shop and got two turkey burritos. After i got home from the gym, i start getting ready for work. At 1245 hours, i left my house for work. On my way to work, i stopped for gas at Chevron gas station on the carefree highway. I bought two monster drinks and one protein bar from the gas station. I arrived at work at 1330 hours, but my briefing for work start at 1400 hours. My sergeant brought pizza for the whole squad.
As a little girl, I was the child who would never let go of my parents. If anyone ever glanced over at me they would catch me either wrapping my whole body around my Mom's legs or begging my Dad to pick me up and hold me. Even worse, if any adults dare took the chance to come over and talk to me I would hide my face, thinking they couldn’t see me so I would never have to talk to anyone. I was shy. Simple as that, talking to people was something I feared the most.
As I looked at the barbell stacked with two 45 lbs plates on both sides, I questioned my own ability, and think to myself there is no way in hell I am able to lift this without injuring myself.
It all started on June 2014, I was uncomfortable in my own skin. I was underweight and was always out of breath. I ran like a turtle. At that time, I weighed only 115 pounds. I wanted to make a change for the better, wanting a better lifestyle. So I decided to sign up for the gym. That day changed my life forever. The gym made me fit, healthier, but most importantly it made me a better person which is who I am today.
