Personal Narrative: Star's Relationship With Crystal

The book Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli, is about a girl named Stargirl Caraway. Stargirl recently enrolled in a new high school after being previously homeschooled. She was different from the other students in several ways. Stargirl wore different outfits and acted differently from the other kids. She plays her ukulele at lunch and she is nice to everyone despite not receiving the same treatment from the other kids. After amusing behavior at a football game, Stargirl becomes a cheerleader and is the most popular girl in school. However, Stargirl was cheering for the opposing team during basketball season, the student body turned on her. After some time during the school year, the student body accepted Stargirl for who she was after the dance. Throughout the story, Stargirl was treated too harshly by the other students from the first few months of school when everything about her was being judged and through her acceptance, eventual rejection, of her by the students.

It wasn’t like any other swim practice, no, not like any other I’d ever gone to. No one usually moved to Minot, North Dakota that was also in swimming, so when Emily Pitcher and her family moved to town and came to practice, it was quite a shock for everyone on the team. She moved from Colorado and she had 2 younger brothers and a younger sister as well. They seemed nice enough but there was something about Emily, who was my age, which seemed a bit off.

Her enthusiasm lasted till lunchtime, fading only when no one came forward to talk to her, to tell her how beautiful she looked that day, to apologize, perhaps, for the late-night phone call. She is so desperate to know who it was. For her this is one in a billion of amazing things that happen to her. Today would be no different at all, she realized. So when this little person came and pointed at me, I was taken aback. I mean, thinking about it, of course, it, makes sense she would choose me, the shiniest gem in the entire store. Children like shiny objects from what I hear, but I had been so down I forgot I even had a sparkle to me. It's been years since that child picked me. I’ve seen her face many times in the mirror since then. It surprises me still how she removes every single piece every night before bed. Yet, I remain snuggled between her breasts, since the day I was purchased I’ve only left her neck for minor repairs.

Sammy looked around for his girls once again and as he was thinking where they were and what they were doing a loud car horn interrupted his thoughts. He turned around and couldn’t believe what he saw. It was Queenie. She was smiling at looking directly at Sammy. He wasn’t sure whether it was a dream or not but he wanted this moment to last forever. Sammy decided to approach Queenie even though he didn’t know what to say and how to act. The closer he was, the more scenarios of what would happen next, were crossing his mind. Then all of the sudden, the pleasingly sweet voice said:

“She is today. She is tomorrow”. These are the words that are plastered on posters all across Mica. Susan Caraway, more commonly known as “Stargirl”, has recently announced that she will be running for mayor in Mica’s upcoming election. Stargirl is recognized amongst Micans for her generous, outgoing personality as well as her individuality. These three traits are what would make her Mica’s ideal mayor.

I remember that fateful day waking up to my mom’s homemade pancakes. She would always get up early on Tuesday mornings and make them for me. They were the best pancakes ever, they were never dry, always light and fluffy. They were mouthwatering, and I couldn’t resist them and I followed the smell to the kitchen.

A person who has made many sacrifices in order to achieve their aspirations or goals is someone with strength, determination and masses of will-power, and it is someone who is not prepared to give up on their dream.

When the murderer, the Ripper, gets a second chance at life, he makes poor choices. Johnson demonstrates this by adding the quote, “Then shall the slayer return, and come unto his city, and unto his own house, unto the city whence he fled. -Joshua 20:6” (Johnson 5). In the Bible, during this passage, God asks Joshua to create an asylum for those who have accidentally murdered someone. God’s purpose is to allow people to have a 2nd chance at life even though through their mistakes, the proper punishment during that time was to be executed. The author utilizes this
