Personal Narrative: Step Up In High School

You ever just listened to a person´s sob story and you continue to listen to these for so long, then you think about how you don't have a story to tell. You think that you are such an uninteresting person, well that´s is definitely not the case because you're just a person with an upbeat kick in their story, which is me. Brought up on the Westside of Chicago, people think you’re raised around violence but that wasn’t me. My mom made sure I wasn’t around that and tried her hardest to keep me out of my neighborhood by putting me in camps & kids enrichment clubs. I joined this afterschool program called Step Up which is a mentoring program for young women, I joined because credits, but I also needed some type of guidance and that's exactly what I received from them. We talked about college every single session we had and I'm thinking most of the time “ I'm not ready for no college”, “I don't want to go to college” or “How am I going to get into college with my kind of GPA and get scholarships to pay for college”. So that's when I really started to pick up the slack, moving my GPA up to a 2.9 . Then we took a college trip St.Louis and there was 3 out of 3 colleges I was certain I wanted to go to but when I look at the cumulative GPA they wanted for someone who wanted to attend, I just knew I had to do something to bring up my cumulative average. That's when I ended Sophomore year off with a 3.1, then there comes Junior year, which has to be the best out of all my years. I knew I had to keep a constant high GPA to help my cumulative average, so I started junior year off with a 3.4 then throughout the middle of the year I have kept a 3.7 or higher and for the end of the year I plan on having a 3.8 or higher. High School will change your whole perspective about your future, which it did for me, now I can’t wait to see how my cumulative looks at the end of Senior
