Personal Narrative: The Four Pillars Of National Honor Society

National Honor Society is a great opportunity for me to give back to the community. I am Marcel Kas and I am currently a sophomore (2016-2017). I was the president of NJHS in middle school (2014-2015). Through my first two years of high school I have been able to take honors and AP courses allowing me to have a GPA of 4.143. I am also involved in many after school activities. I am currently a part of the tennis team, German National Honor Society, and the Greenfield High School marching band. I also volunteer my time to my community. I always volunteer for Polish cultural events like Polish Fest, I volunteer at church by being a lector and by helping out the priest every Friday and Sunday by being an altar boy, I am in a choir, I babysit,

The four pillars of National Honor Society have shaped who I am today in numerous ways. Firstly, the pillar of scholarship is much more than just getting straight A’s. It inspires me to learn new things and continue gaining knowledge every day while creating a motivation to take challenging classes and work harder to achieve higher grades. Academics are important because they prepare us for our future careers and act as a pathway to success. Moreover, service proves to be another important pier. I love helping people and take pride in doing so. I’ve put in countless hours working on projects for band, choir, church, school, and the community. Ultimately, volunteering has helped spark my love for others and developed a more compassionate personality.

The four pillars of the National Honors Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service, define what it means to be a person that is dedicated to the betterment of our community. Scholarship refers to the dedication of academic study or achievement. Leadership is the act of providing guidance or direction. Character defines the moral qualities and reputation of an individual. Service refers to a helpful acts that contribute to the welfare of others. Although the four pillars of the National Honors Society have their distinctive meanings, leadership values the most importance.

The four pillars of National Honor Society have shaped me into the person I am today. Scholarship is a very important pillar. Without knowledge, there is no future. If I do not want the knowledge that is given to me, then I cannot succeed. Service is another pillar that is important. Helping others without anything in return is one of the best feelings in the world. It is something that allows people to do a small gesture that is an act of kindness. The commitment to service that I have is extraordinary. Knowing that my service can improve or help someone out is enough of a reward. Leadership is a big role that has been played in my life. Without leadership, I would be a responsible older sister, aunt, cousin, niece, or granddaughter. I have

National Honor Society is built upon four pillars; scholarship, service, leadership, and character. As a member of NHS I strive to demonstrate these pillars throughout my day to day life. Within my first two years of high school, I focused mainly upon myself, caring only about the grades I was receiving, and striving to better my own education. While I know prioritizing education is important, I know that it is also important to help those around me, whether that be through tutoring or simply reaching out and being a friend to those in need. It wasn’t until I was inducted into NHS at the end of my sophomore year when I realized this. After being introduced to these four pillars, I feel as though my perspective of high school dramatically changed.

The pillars of National Honor Society, scholarship, leadership, service and character, are the foundation upon which each chapter and its’ members strive to better their community and school. Service is what creates the National Honor Society, the actions of one done in order to help others or the community without any monetary or material compensation. Scholarship, the commitment and desire to learn; leadership, the initiative to take action in order to create results for a group of individuals; and character, the distinction that sets an individual apart from others, are the defining criteria of members. Throughout high school, being a member of National Honor Society has benefitted me in ways that have bettered me as a student and as a person. As a member of this organization, I have had many qualities instilled within myself that I will carry throughout my entire life. The four pillars of National Honor Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service have been brought to me through this organization, and without them I would not be who I am today.

In order to be accepted into the prestigious organization known as National Honor Society, four main requirements must be met. These requirements are scholarship, service, character, and leadership. Throughout this essay I will strive to show that I hold all of the previously stated qualities to a great measure. I believe that during my three years at Holy Trinity Diocesan High School I have properly exhibited and expanded these qualities to their fullest potential therefore qualifying me for the position as a member of the National Honor Society.

Qualifying for National Honors Society is a great honor and is the apotheosis of my highschool career. As a highschool student in arduous honors classes, I am faced with challenges on a daily basis that might discourage me from achieving my goals in life. Because high school can be rigorous and stressful at times, I have realized how these hindrances should be the reason for me to persevere towards greatness and to learn who I truly am. A National Honor Society member showcases leadership, service, exemplifies positive character, and an outstanding academic excellence at the same time. I believe that I display these characteristics, and would be an asset to the organization .

National Honor Society Entrance Essay The National Honor Society was established to recognize and foster excellence beyond the classroom in areas of leadership, service and character. This organization is known for sharpening social and academic skills, and producing well-rounded scholars. Therefore, I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students chosen to be considered to represent the Cleveland Heights chapter. I believe our high school’s chapter needs ambitious student leaders who will take initiative in the community and in the classroom, while also upholding the principles and ethics of the society.

To society I seem to be very talkative on the other hand I can be intelligent. For example was in National Honor Society, had above average grades, I was very outgoing and did a lot of sports and clubs throughout the years. People would also agree that I always have been very clumsy. In general people would say I am not an overall serious person.

Throughout my high school career I have demonstrated the four pillars that the National Honor Society is built upon: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

My involvement with the Honors Program and the Honors Club has increased over time. When I first enrolled in Pima Community College I was hoping for no more than a certificate that would allow me to access a well paid job in this country. The reason for this is that, even though I wanted to go to a four year university as I was doing when I lived in Colombia, I knew that higher education would be too expensive for me to afford as an immigrant that had recently moved into the U.S. I also thought that the language barrier would make it difficult for me to obtain the grades that I wanted. However, after taking my assessment exams when I first joined Pima and getting a very high score that allowed me to join the Honors Program, my curiosity and desire to further my education began to swell. After my first semester in Pima I obtained a 4.0 GPA, which gave the

My life has always rested on the foundation of knowledge because of the way learning has always been treasured in my household. My parents have taught me to pursue curiosity and expand the corners of my mind, rather than confining my potential to self-induced limitations. These ideas engraved themselves into my core as a person, and I continue to grow as somebody with an unconditional pursuit of learning. Therefore, ‘Scholarship’ is not a pillar I struggle to achieve.

The four pillars of National Honor Society are all very important in both my high school career as well as my everyday life. My commitment to my education is how I have attained my current academic success and is also how I discovered my passion in life which is sciences. Whenever I start a new lesson I am never afraid to fail because Albert Einstein once said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” This quote highly impacts my class participation as I am not afraid to be wrong anymore, but rather I am ready to make a mistake and learn from it.
