My head slowly angled down at the murky brown water reflecting the bright sun as It flowed downstream. “Come on you pussy”, I heard from below. From then on, and for these three words, my fate would be decided, On that day about four years ago, i would know what fear feels like, and how confidence can change your life.
My two brothers nagged and complained constantly that “it’s too hot to do anything”. consequently, My family and I were off to find water. Two and a half miles of complacent landscape and flat concrete roads later, My family and I had arrived at Krause Springs, a popular spot for young families and middle aged men lying on pool floats. Entering the spring, I gendered in amazement at the sharp cliffs jetting off the ground and Into the sky. I had done nothing that whole day, but laugh, play, and eat chips until my older brother invited me up a narrow rocky path. “Where are we going” I asked excitedly. “Just wait, you’ll see” he responded ominously, speeding up his pace. When my brother and i enter a clearing in the path my mind pondered on what we would be doing, until I found that

If I did not jump I would be labeled as a weakling, and to a nine year old kid reputation is everything. So from that moment on I decided that I would jump. “Jump what are you thinking”, my subconscious proclaimed, but I could not hear it.
My head raced as adrenaline rushed through my veins, I could feel fear. As I forced myself to jump, my feet lifted off the ground and the rocks from under me disappeared from under my feet and it seemed as if splash… My frail kind of chubby body hit the water and sent ripples through the water, as my head was swallowed whole by the water. My feet hit the slimy ground as it seemed to wrap around my feet attempting to trap me underwater . Franticly I kicked until I could breath again. I surfaced as my brother floated on the water “you're still a pussy”, he said in the bickering way brothers
The creek is a place were I can release all of my problems with the world. I can sit down and really think. Not having to worry about the time or if I am getting all of my assignments done. The creek is my place for thinking and quietness.
I never could have thought in a million years something this petrifying could happen to me. My favorite place in the whole world, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, turned into one full of sorrow. As I dove to catch the fluorescent green tennis ball, hot white sand flew up onto my body. My dad, wearing his favorite floral swim trunks, responded with a typical, “Nice catch, Zako!” I began to lift myself off the beach floor and dust off the sand, when suddenly I noticed something peculiar floating in the elusive blue water. The object appeared to be a body. In a split second I realized what I was fixed upon. “Wait, it’s Grandpap!,” I shouted. The words fell out of my mouth in slow motion. That split second I first saw him felt like an eternity.
Something Out of Nothing…. I always thought that something was missing in my life, especially in my youth. However, I would never take the time to find out what it was. I guess you could say that I was distracted by outside opinions which I allowed to root inside me. As a child, my self-esteem was basically none existent and I stuttered badly. I can remember being laughed at in class when being called on to read and even seeing the teacher holding back her laughter. The thing that hurt the most was when the teacher told me that I wasn’t going to amount to much when I grow up. Not knowing at that time how to use to those words as fuel to push me to prove her wrong, instead I allowed it to hinder me and to fester in my mind. I was enrolled in remedial classes
I grew up in a small city in Connecticut named Waterbury, or commonly known as the “Dirty Waters”. I’m not entirely sure why people call it that but I do know of the local myth that if you drink from the fountain downtown, you will never live in another city. So naturally, I avoided it like the plague. And I it worked. Although I can’t say the same for my family as they are on the 3rd generation born there.
Have you ever been so desperate for something that you redevelop your motive in its entirety? Throughout my life I’ve found myself placed in this frightening situation multiple times; the most confusing of which would be what I’ve endured this year. People in their 20s have it rough anyway. We’re old enough to feel like we’re supposed to know what we’re doing, yet young enough to be clueless and it still be acceptable; then there’s those of us who think we’ve got it all figured out only to be proven tremendously wrong. I have learned, however, that being tremendously wrong can lead you right where you need to be.
Everything went silent, ripples disappearing as quickly as they had appeared in the black water as it swallowed Ted up, the way he had entered he’d go down a good 15 feet, his own feet touching the murky bottom, total darkness surrounding him. We were silent until his sandy colored hair appeared, and then a head, a face that seemed to be made of the smile that stretched across it, a face we hadn’t seen smile since last
Have you ever had a problem finding your way to a place with the GPS? Nowadays, technology has become a necessary evil because the uses of them have both advantages and disadvantages. For instance, computers enable us to get work done easier and faster. But, on the other hand, the use of these technologies can reduce the ability of human thinking. This reminds me of the anxiousness that I went through in order to get to school. It was springtime, schools had just reopened for another semester, and classes had just begun. Unfortunately, Manassas was where my campus was located, and that was my first time I had to travel to that campus. This journey made me felt there is no short way in life. However, I realized my frustrating journey had just begun.
harder things. If that goes well then I might change it to every day. If I succeed in doing my challenge then I’ll reward myself in some manner, most likely by hanging out with friends and doing something a little more special with them. My first challenge will be talking to someone I don’t know on the bus or at the store. After that, I’ll think of my next challenge for next week and so on making each new week progressively more
I thought it was going to be an ordinary Saturday afternoon for me. I went to my friend’s place and we did some science project there. It was time to go home and it’s getting late. I arrived at our compound by riding a taxi. I rushed to our place because I wanted to do some other things there.
Was he dead or alive? Did the helicopter land safely? What happened to him? I knew that we left on really good terms, but will I truly get to say goodbye. Was this the day that he will leave me. I rushed to get ready to go, to the place that could be the best place to be or the worst, all at the same time. I could smell this place, feel it in the air. It will either be peaceful or the worst place I will ever go. I will know in one hour. I might never see him again, or will I. One hour.
It was the scariest night of the year, but for me it was the best night of the year. I was ready to get so much candy, it would take me a year to finish it all.
As they jumped into the pool I cautiously dipped my toe in the water; feels refreshing, the best temperature. Little by little my feet went in, little by little my ankles felt the cold water, just a little bit more into the water and I was up to my knees. I could smell the chlorine a smell that comforted me because it was so familiar. Quickly, I stopped not being able to handle the truth. Rapidly, I took my feet out of the water and walked toward the bleachers, Isla was sitting there her red hair made her look like a tiger ready to pounce. A surge of guilt hit me. With a passion, I hated Isla, she was one of the braggers, constantly happy and cheery always smiling and laughing. In short, I had talked behind her back and she had found out, and it had bit her in the tail. In addition, she was also a very good swimmer she was my competition, and we often tied. “Today's my last day coach, I just wanted to watch” she
This week I competed three social histories. It seems like the more I do them, the easier it seems to be getting. I feel more comfortable with the residents. It also seems like coming up with questions is becoming easier for me. There is a general idea on what to ask, but she wants me to go beyond what is on the sheet. It actually has become fun. I have learned so much about the residents. They are so interesting and have some wonderful stories to share. Man, how things have changed through the years. I interviewed a 94-year-old man and I asked him how him and his wife met. He said that there was an all-girl school across the street from his house. He went over to talk to a girl he knew and he met another girl, and that girl was his now wife.
When you wake up on a tile floor, it is normal to have a ache in your back. My plan for the day was to go, find, and collect water. I grabbed a spool of fishing line and tied the end to my door frame, and I put the spool in my backpack, so that when I walked I made trail of string to follow back home. With this safety measure in place, I went out in search of water. After only a few hours of exploring, I heard the trickling of water. I bee lined for the source of the noise. I had found a fresh water spring! I fell to my knees, and started drinking. As far as I was concerned, this was the best tasting water on God’s green Earth. I filled several jugs that I had brought from the store, and went on exploring.
“Count down from ten, and soon you’ll be asleep. We’ll wake you up when the operation is over,” a common phrase from any anesthesiologist.
