The Stone Harbor Shiver So many bets, I could have made a total of $70 in bets, if I did them all. They were all for one event, The Stone Harbor Shiver in New Jersey. It was my second year doing it. It is a Polar Plunge, where you run into freezing cold water. After the super boring long car ride, we went out for dinner because we got there at 8:30 due to Philadelphia traffic. Catherine, a first time Shiverer, was my friend who I chose to bring along. Many people went on this trip, including my dog, Lucy! After breakfast the next day, the pressure was on. It was the Pre-Shivver Parade. There were Mummers at Fred’s Tavern and we got fudge from Fudge Kitchen. The lead Mummer always does a weird walk and dance while they are leading the parade.
In my school I am part of a community service group called start something, we help people in our community who are not as fortunate, or help clean in our community to keep our city beautiful. My first community service event was the Spicket River cleanup, the Spicket River is a small river that goes through Lawrence. The river goes through many parts of Lawrence, some people’s trash ends up in the river,[every year I look forward to this event to help the environment and my community] this is why every year I look forward to participating in The Spicket River Cleanup.
I have been in the now disturbing Quetico lake for the last 12 years of my life. I can’t take this. I have one way out, and that is to get someone in, trapped. I am captured in the deepest part of the Quetico lake, 300 feet below, I have gone mental. Around every month someone passes and I restrain myself from knocking, pleading for help. The only way I can get out is if I knock on a boat that passes and put them in my place. I never wanted too, for twelve years I haven’t. I know they will be trapped with a terrible way to escape. It will mess with their mind, but I could not take the pain of going insane. I was stuck...until now.
In one’s life they are faced with many situations that will make them question where they stand morally. One’s own morality, and the ethical decisions they make are affected my many different factors that all come together to determine paths we follow. In both Erdrich’s I’m a Mad Dog Biting Myself for Sympathy and Thammachot’s Nightfall on the Waterway interactions with a other’s lead to the main characters facing ethical dilemmas, showing how a person’s morality comes one’s personal life experiences, and living conditions. The narrator in Erdrich’s, I’m a Mad Dog Biting Myself for Sympathy, because of his past, and interactions with others demonstrates his inability to be in a position to make carful moral decisions that will have a lasting
I knew that it was the perfect day to go out and explore an incredible place.
I thought I would touch bases, before Russ and I leave for 3 weeks. We should be returning just about the time you go on your Channel Island trip. We are headed to Branson, Missouri, for a week, a time-share condo. Then we will start back via, Witchita, Kansas, to visit with one of Russ' sisters and assorted family, then on to Dallas to stay with his other sister and attend the MacPherson clan annual general meeting. After that we will head home.
During my part time employment with River Island, I was privileged to be promoted to sales manager for women’s products which allowed me to develop numerous management qualities and communication skills. These ranged from keeping financial records, customer care, managing and meeting weekly sales targets and problem
My most favorable event was when we did the scavenger hunt at The Riverquarium. I learned about a variety of species of fish. The Spanish Hogfish was one of them. The Hogfish lives in the Gulf of Mexico and is purple and yellow. In addition, there was the Blue Hole Springs. The Blue Hole had carp, bass, alligator snapping turtles, sunfish, and a sturgeon. The sturgeon was a black sturgeon. I noticed that it has sharp bone running along its back. The plaque stated the sturgeon uses those bones as a defense mechanism. For example, if another fish were to eat the sturgeon the bones will cut through the other fish.
It’s been a long time since I’ve hiked in this canyon. I found reverence in Cliff Canyon form the clear blue stream that extended for miles, jagged cliffs along the side, the wintery crystal white snow that allowed such a picturesque view, and the clear air. In the heat of winter, I expected the weather to be cold but not chilling as it was at the moment. Regrettably, I didn’t think I would need a coat considering, Cliff Canyon is literally in my back yard. As I advanced up the canyon, the weather began to change. It went from being simply dirt cold to cloudy followed by a mild snow shower.
This summer I visited Bloody Pond, which is located in Lake George, New York. Bloody Pond is historically significant because it was the location of a bloody massacre during the French and Indian War. This pond was the location of the brutal Bloody Pond Massacre, which was between the colonials and the French forces. As a result of this battle, the French suffered heavy losses which subsequently boosted the morals of the colonials and the British.
“How long has it been since I’ve felt like this?” I wondered as I walked along the greenish-gray pond. My back baked in the radiating light of the sun while I pondered on about the life I lived leading up to this serene moment. There was a hectic crowded rummaging about, everyone filled with astonishment, boredom, irritation, and exhaustion. Despite all of this everything was in a calm silence. Hordes of people, but I still felt alone.
Ever since I was a little girl I hoped someday I would be able to go back in time.Well now I’m fourteen and was told to stop believing in silly things like that. One day after school I found a locket there was a tiny button inside. Before I took it home I made shure it didn’t belong to anyone around the park. With no luck I headed home and when I got to my room I pressed the button to see what it did and in a flash I was falling out of the sky!. I wasn’t as high as a plane but it was still pretty high. I fell on a tree then rolled down a rocky hill. When I was able to get back up to my feet all I could see for miles was small herds of mammoths!. Next thing I knew an arrow flew past my head. I looked over to see where the arrow came from. It

The sound of my shovel hitting the ground rang in my ears. In the midst of digging in the dirt at my friend Asa’s house the rain started to pick up. We had been digging up old pottery and finding metal nails that we had picked up on the metal detector. As I pulled out another large square nail from the depths of the cold soggy ground, Asa exclaimed,
For the past week, I have been reading and doing research in a 4000-year-old tale known as The Shipwrecked Sailor. I have translated small pieces every day from its original middle Egyptian to English. Although my progress has been quite slow, I was, however, able to get adequate time to think the entire story between translations (David, A. Rosalie). As anyone might guess from its title, The Shipwrecked Sailor is centered on a sailor that was once shipwrecked after a storm arose before his ship made it back to the mainland. The sailor happens to be the only one that survived as he was washed up on an island. Once on shore, the sailor suddenly heard a loud sound of thunder, and the ground quaked, and he saw the trees shake. Then an enormous serpent appeared from the trees and asked him how he managed to get there. Being terrified by the serpent, the sailor explains of the shipwreck. The serpent, however, consoles him by telling him about his own story which happens to be more painful. After his sad story, the serpent, however, assures the sailor that another ship would soon be coming and that he would be taken back home. “...Then a ship shall come from your land with sailors, and you shall leave with them and go to your country…” ("The Shipwrecked Sailor")Towards the end, we see that the serpent’s prediction finally came true and the sailor made it back home safe and sound.
Fifty years to the day, I built a stone wall, sealing the foolish Fortunato’s fate. In all those years, not a soul discovered the dark secret that I kept within cold, dismal walls. As I walked deeper and lower into my home to get to the vaults, I thought of my most memorable experiences in life.
