B is for Books I have always enjoyed reading. From graphic novels to 600 page novels I enjoy all books in some way. This paper tells the different books I enjoy and why, and some of my all-time favorite books. Reading is a great way to exercise your brain, and think more of the world around you. The first books I ever read myself was “The Magic Tree House” series, it was a long series of books that told the story of two kids either going forward or back in time to change history. The problem my teacher had with these books is that they were too easy, I would end up finishing one or two in one class period. Eventually I decided to read books more advanced, which is how I got into historical fiction, I found that I enjoyed
The connections I have between the book and my life is I really connect to all the daughters in different ways. Especially when they are saying how their mothers are putting pressure on them. I definitely understand what the daughters are saying when they talk about pressure from their mothers, because me being younger in the family and the next one to graduate I have pressure from my mom. My mother always tries to put me in camps, sports, internships and anything for my future, like all the daughters the mothers put them in activities for their future.
My earliest reading memory was when I was five with the little golden book series. I loved getting new books and reading them. But most of all I loved when my mother read to me so I could look at the pictures as my imagination went wild with stories about Jack climbing up the beanstalk or a king searching a kingdom for a worthy princess.
In all honesty, I don't remember a lot about becoming literate. I didn't have a special moment or time when I knew that reading or writing going to take me somewhere. According to my mom she started to read to me when I was one, so there wasn't anything that could've excelled me much farther before going into kindergarten. One of the requirements in elementary school was to read every night which I believe was an important factor of me improving my literacy. Reading and writing used to me excite me because I would immerse myself into a book or write a whole new universe on a page. I made reading and writing something personal to me. I now realize that every book and every piece of writing can be worthwhile in one way or another.
My experience with literature started when I was in the first grade. My first-grade teacher was named Ms. Young. Every Friday, all the teachers would come together to have story time and read the children a book. I would be so excited for story time because I would sit down with my best friends Ashley and Jordan, and we would listen to the teacher that was assigned to read to us. During story time, all the children would gather around in a big circle and the teacher would be in the center in a big brown rocking chair, and read. Over time in the school year, the children would read bigger and longer books like the Junie B. Jones series, chapter books, and the extreme level, which would be the Harry potter series. Sometimes I would fall asleep because the book that was read was very dull. I remember Ms. Young read to us the “Very Hungary Caterpillar”9 by Eric Carle. I loved that book as a child. It had great illustrations of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly. This book made me love reading for the rest of my life. Now in college, I love to read books. I only
Over my years of school, one big influence on me has always been sports. Ever since a young age, I have always enjoyed playing and watching sports. In my four years in high school, I have fell in love with the sport of lacrosse.
I woke up and took one bite out of my pop tart but that one bite was all I could eat. My legs were shaking, and my heart was pounding. My dad told me, “It is a true honor to even make it this far so go out there and have some fun.” Once I heard this statement, I knew I was ready to go. I arrived at school and boarded the bus. The car ride was an hour and fifteen minutes of hearing the squeaking of the wheel on the bus. My teammates were getting their heads ready for the big game.
My experiences as a writer have been both very engrossing and strenuous. I have learned a great quantity on both reading and writing, though, I continue to struggle on things that I have learned by this time, making the same mistakes that I do not even realize. Sometimes things are not so easy to understand when reading information, especially if the wording of an article is difficult for example. I love the idea of learning new things everyday. These past years as a writer have been very interesting, and I have learned and grasped many concepts I have been taught along the way.
I have read numerous delightful books by a variety of amazing authors. These books span from the genres of Action and Adventure, Mystery, Romance, and Comedy, some of the titles include: Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix, The Help, Bridge to Terabithia, Beloved, The Color Purple, and To Kill a Mockingbird. In my opinion these books all have their great qualities which make them a great read, although I must say if I were to recommend one book out of the group, I would definitely say read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I as a reader enjoy reading, however I do not do it as often as I would like. I always have trouble starting books, I would say that the first five to chapters are the hardest to get through. I admire how with reading you are able to make your own depiction of what’s happening, instead of seeing what others envisioned. To me a great book must have twists and turns to keep me interested. I love being able to get to know the characters, feeling as if they are apart of your own life, being able to see them as almost a friend in your own life. Taking their life lessons and putting them to use in your own. I like more romantici books where they have to get over many obstacles to obtain their great love. I also enjoy reading about a character who is able to turn their troubles around and become better than they once were.
Having to write about my own literacy is hard to do, first of all it’s hard to recall things that happened when you were a child let alone when I started to read and write, I remember going to school playing, the teacher reading to us, making vowel sounds and learning to write my name; I recall the teacher giving out the spelling list and taking it home to practice before Friday’s test, I would go to school hoping and praying that I would not misspell any words; as usual I missed a couple of words and I knew what that meant.
As I fly back home from Alaska, I think of all my all my adventures I’ve had so far. I feel amazing that I finally finish and will be returning to my dogs, my home, and most importantly, my sweet wife. I missed her so much over the past two weeks, I can't wait to see her again.
From my experiences, I have learned that effort and dedication are the key factors needed to gain magnificent literacy skills. Even though, I had to start from the bottom all over again, I was able to succeed in a new language. That’s why, I feel that it is extremely important to keep expanding our knowledge in order to develop our understanding, imagination and language. Although, I feel that I have improved my literacy throughout my 19 years, I know there is much more to learn.
Going to college is very uncommon within my family, not many of my family members have furthered their education with the college route. I thought going above and beyond others within my family and putting in the effort that goes along with college would really help me stand out from my family members. Most of my family have went straight into the workforce , straight out of high school with that being one of my options, that influenced me with the major of Production Agriculture due to the fact my family and I have been raised to run a farm. By doing the extra step and going through with college I believe my standpoint on running a farm will have a slight advantage then my other family members. Unlike most people in my family
My earliest experience with reading and writing were traumatizing especially when I was in the first grade. I still recall the experience I went through to this day. It made me really hate myself because the other kids were making fun of me.
After i screamed in the taxi i didn't know what to expect. LIke it was a scary sight like i
