Working together to make a change Working together to make a change I never thought that working together can make a big difference.Just remembering the difference that I made to those people just made me glad about that day.Although I was not even planning to make a change.Although others might not think that someone can make a change I just found out that If one helps it may encourage others to also make a change. It was just a nice sunny, normal day and I was just planning on going to the In and out from the corner to grab nothing else but my favorite order #1.I loved my order because it was just the right thing for me to have enough energy to wait until dinner was served. As I approached to the window one of my friends Alexis already knew
The agency that I visited for my placement is called Positive Change Academy. This academy is located in Wilmington Delaware. Wilmington Delaware is a city where about 17,000 of its residents are living below the poverty level. Positive Change is an alternative school for children in 1st through 8th grade. Children are enrolled in this school usually due to behavioral issues. The goal is to equip the children with the appropriate resources to help reintegrate them all back into public, or private schooling systems. I had the pleasure of interviewing with Mr. Miller: Director of Education. Mr. Miller stated that he is basically the assistant principal at the school.
My current job is an ABA therapist for the school district. Last week, one of the children on my case load was having a lot of behavior issues in the classroom. In order to help shape his behaviors, a collaboration took place. The classroom teacher, the lead therapist, the autism specialist, another line therapist and myself brainstormed possible strategies to put in place. We all had to observe the behaviors and try to determine the antecedent. From there, we sat down as a team to decide what behaviors we wanted to target first and what strategies we would use. We have all begun to put the strategies into place and we are seeing significant improvement in some of the behaviors. We have all taken turns in dealing
As a one year old child when my parents first moved to Stump Tavern Road in 1959 when my father was stationed at McGuire AFB, I have seen the metamorphous of Jackson from a sleepy rural township into a suburban bedroom community. After college, I chose to return to Jackson and raise my Jewish family here for the same reasons so many choose it today; the quality of life, public school system, and aesthetics of the countryside. It is with this background I am writing to you today to applaud your courage and foresight and voice my full support of Ordinances #03-17 and #04-17 for a complete ban of dormitories in all residential and commercial zones. Unrestrained development is environmentally unsustainable and as the caretakers of this town
I joined the Make a Difference club on September 2016,where I completed my community service. I completed a total of 37.5 hours in the club.
I was born in Australia on January 12, 1999, however I have lived on the Hawaiian Islands since I was five and for most of my life. I have traveled back to Australia several times to visit family and even though I’m an Australian i do consider myself semi-Hawaiian in a sense. To give back to the islands I would love to help the next generation to have a childhood that is filled to the brim with Hawaiian Nature. One idea to give them this experience would be to go into Waipio Valley with the children from different schools in the Big island and explore the valley with them. Some activities while we are in the valley would be hiking, examining native plants, horse riding, swimming in rivers and the ocean, and then
This day was busy, but I was able to help out more by checking patients in and checking them out this time around. Felt a lot more comfortable with the system and interacting with the clients and their pets. This was my last day working in the front, I enjoyed working with Leonore and the rest of the staff in the front but, I am very excited to work in the back to get hands on experience working with the technician’s and the doctor’s.
I remember a time when I had to collaborate with a group of co-workers. It was a group of six, as a group we needed to come up with “Helping Our Mortgage Customers Save Their Home”. We as a group had to develop different ways to assist customers in saving their home, even if that meant discussing ways to let the home go for sale. We as a team developed an identical objective by learning from each other, sharing ideas, and knowledge. However, we shared ideas on the steps to modify your home, and the various options that are available to each homeowner. We collaborated on government plans that were also available. In order for the collaboration to work, we as a team had to work together to schedule meeting
Today I had the pleasure to talk to Moira while she watched her son and husband play baseball. Moira has been in the Y for a while. She explained to me that her family lived in Washington D.C. before they came to Houston. There she started her son off in swim lessons and she loved it. She decided to try out basketball and also loved it. When she moved down to Houston, she signed her son her for baseball for the experience and for time for father and son bonding. Also, because she like the way the programs are ran at the Y. Her purpose for staying in the Y is because it’s less expensive than a private gym, she likes Child Watch so she can work out, and because it integrates something for the whole family. It’s good to see that the Y is still provided and family cultures in
At the pool I seen a new face in the deep end of the pool. Ryley was running in the water for 30 minutes. She said that she is a runner and trains for marathons and half marathons since college. She can’t run currently due to an ankle injury. She got a membership to the Y about 3 months ago so she could do water therapy here. The morning time is when she use to come but she can only make it in the afternoon now. We talked for a bit about different events that we ran in high school and the events that I currently run at HBU. She seems excited to be at the Y for her training. It’s good to see that the Y is able to have a pool for people who are looking for water therapy.
In the beginning, I went to the center to take the blue teams flag. I decided to change my team to the red side. I made sure the blue side wouldn't win. I saw a guy named 05Ninja05.
During the beginning of my sophomore year I would constantly hear students around school converse about wanting to help out the community but didn't know where to start, where to go, or who to talk too about it. I was explaining to my friend about a school club idea that I had, which was to open a club that would help students find ways to assist the community and also receive community service hours for doing so.Therefore, starting junior year my friend and I submitted paperwork to start our own school club, we named it the CAS Hour Club. Our club was composed of many students, from all grade levels, both girls and boys eager to help out the community. We had many club meetings where we brainstormed about many interesting ideas and projects that we could possibly bring to life. We used ideas from our club members to organize many events such as community and beach clean-ups.
“Ready let's do this!” Those are the last words I heard from my coach until I got hit. This all started as a normal practice, until my Alex (my coach) asked me to something new. The thing she wanted me to do was a front flip while my bases threw me in the air while holding on to my backspot Izzy’s hand. So they threw and as I was coming around my hand and Izzys hand somehow came undone and her elbow came down my head was coming around and they hit. When I got hit I kind of blanked because my coach told me that I kept going after I got hit and I don’t remember that till this day. So after my bases let me down I started crying because it hurt really bad and after I sat on the ground I felt my head where I got hit and it felt like I have a 5 inch bump coming out of my head. So my best friend Laura went and got me ice from the trainer. When she got back with the ice I put it on my head and I suddenly felt tired. I told my coach that I was really tired and she said that I had to stay
You’ve seen my worst. I threw unreasonable demands, unpredictable rages, and tantrums. What I wanted was usually beyond the realm of the possible; consequently, I‘ve been terrible when you were two and terrifying when you turned three.
One of my friends from camp is gender fluid. One day, they call me on the phone, crying, furiously thanking me. Their brother has finally agreed to start using their pronouns, claiming I had a conversation with him about gender fluidity. I have no memory of this specific conversation, but it still had a huge effect on one of my friend’s sanity and happiness. Even if your not consciously aware of it, your actions can make change. Improving a community isn’t solely done in giant leaps and bounds, but with smaller actions. Creating safe spaces for people, complementing people, providing representation, even picking up trash everyday can make a huge difference.
My hometown is where I grew up, it is where the roots of my healthy tree lies. My childhood friends and family live in this small and quiet town and it will forever be my home. It’s where I learned to be an intelligent and successful young adult. A town, holding slightly less than 800 residents and home of a single gas station, a tiny diner, a very small Postal Office, a library that isn’t visited as often as it used to, the City Hall, and a park that is nearly in ruins. Keiser, Arkansas is the small town everyone passes through to get to their destination. It has several problems that could be improved. New city officials, relandscaping the park, furnishing abandoned homes, road repairs, city violations, business
