For the course of my break I was let down a little by some companies I wanted to volunteer with. Instead I helped my family because of the position I was in during the holidays. Even though I didn’t help a wide scale of people in a community; I helped my family members. Even the smallest deeds I did for example, making sure my grandmother buys healthier foods and accompanying my dad to places to do errands made them happy. I made them happy regardless of me not being there for them throughout the year. I didn’t volunteer for the break, but I did give gifts. Spending time with my grandmother examples, encouraging her not to give up so soon, enforcing her to cook better foods, and change her diet. I helped my dad out by cleaning up, and …show more content…
I didn’t get my relatives to sign any papers since they are family and I should do that any, but under the circumstances that I was in I think I’ve helped around more than I ever did. Since I am older and able to do more things for myself no one has to look over me anymore and no worry as much.
My overall project turned out sort of an disaster, but it taught me I can only be me and stressing over a company isn’t going to help me. Even though I know I didn’t meet the criteria community service can be done anytime. This gives me hope that the places I didn’t get to volunteer with I can sometime in the future. My family and I got happiness from me helping out which is a success. The part where I couldn’t actually volunteer for the Cafe, animal shelter, or help at the park bummed me out. In the future i hope to find a place that with respond back to if I have questions. This project would have been the most fulfilling to me if I could have helped out by volunteering. I know that there are my other places to volunteer and I'm hoping I get to do so In the future.
There are many pros and cons to volunteering, but the effect is worth it. The pros : being able to make someone/something happy, making the community cleaner, supporting companies that are based on volunteering. The cons: not having the ability to to actually volunteer. Volunteering is very different because I am a young teen since most accept at 18+
I will never regret giving back to my community because of all the experiences and characteristics I’ve received from it. I made my impression in my community and I hope the kids who I helped will do the
On 08/20/2017 at 1002 hours FTO Wheeler #4361 and I responded to St. Luke’s Hospital emergency room entrance, on 3555 Cesar Chavez St., regarding a women in a hospital gown trying to break the caller’s vehicle window with a brick. Officer Wheeler and I were in full police uniform driving a marked patrol unit when we responded.
From being active in my community I have learned that after giving, you receive the best feeling. My freshman year, my friends and I dressed up like Disney princesses and sang at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. I have gone back two more times because I am in love with cheering people up. Since this experience, I have made it a mission to always continue to participate in community service. From meals-on-wheels, to adopt-a-spot trash clean up I am always ready to help out the community.
I felt that I needed to give back to them. Thanks to the Southwest Rotary Club, I was able to participate in Rotary International’s Student Exchange Program. So upon hearing about this assignment, I contacted my former exchange advisor and she informed me about this program. The “Feed the Homeless” program is held once a month at Christ Episcopal Church. There are two main jobs there and since I was there for three different months, I got to do both. The first job is preparing meals in the kitchen. The kitchen worked like an assembly line, each person manned one food item and the sandwiches were assembled as it went across the kitchen before arriving at a window where they would be picked up by the homeless. There was always one person directing how many sandwiches needed to be made and assigning people to different roles. It was necessary to have a boss in the kitchen since we had to move fast to keep up with the line of people, and if there was no clear authority, people would be tripping over each other and progress would be slowed. This was illustrated the second time I volunteered, I arrived a little too early and there were only teens from the church youth group present. We decided to start preparing the food early to save us more work later. This did not work well since half the people stood around confused (including myself), and the other half just
This reflection will discuss personal diffidence and how it has influenced my academic studies, including my practice within placement settings. Gibbs reflective cycle (Gibbs, 1998) has been utilised as it illustrates a clear structure for the process of reflection. To conclude this reflection will draw together the themes which have emerged and highlight a clear action for future learning that will be used in order to enhance my future practice.
There is no better feeling than making another person happy through my own hard work and dedication, and I have experienced that euphoric feeling as a result of my volunteer work throughout my high school career. Having participated and been a leader in many service projects and activities, I have been constantly inspired to continue my dedication to helping others. I want to make a difference in people’s lives and, in turn, be inspired by the happiness and optimism of the individuals I will encounter.
I learned to never go somewhere if you’re not informed on what will be going on or the type of environment I’ll be in. Never put myself in a situation where I’m stranded. Always drive my own car, that way I can leave when I am ready to go. This experience was not so great but there have been many other opportunities of service I’ve done that has impacted my view on the community. I actually enjoy doing volunteer work and helping out in my community. When I volunteered with Feed the Children, it opened my eye to how many families are struggling and are in need. While putting boxes together it made me wonder what family would receive it and what’s their life story. Volunteering has had a positive impact on me. I’ve gained confidence within myself, happiness, a sense of purpose, experience and communication skills. It’s a great way to connect with others. Knowing that I am helping someone in my community and also having a positive impact on their lives warms my heart. Doing service for others has helped me become more grateful and appreciative for the things I have. It showed me the lifestyle of living pay check to pay check and struggling and that’s what motivates me to figure out this college thing, so I can become successful and continue to help my community.
During high school I was one of the leaders of our high school volunteering organization. I have volunteered NTFB, Texas Discovery Garden, Angel Tree for the salvation army, Race for the cure, YMCA turkey Trot, Blood Drive of 2014, the Balloon Festival, and the MLK convention. I was also the founder and the leader of the middle eastern club. I was a member of our high school student council and a member in LULAC. I was also the treasure in our high school’s choir. I worked at my high school’s admissions and testing center. I also volunteered at the GO center which helps the students apply for scholarships and FAFSA/TAFSA paper work. All of this community work has made me understand what is the meaning of giving back to the society and helping
I sat and thought “what is a good way to give back to the community, but passionate to me at the same time” so I decided to help my elderly neighbor with some house chores and cleaning our neighborhood. I was determined to do this because I live around a lot of elderly people and I notice how difficult it is for them to do yard work or do the things that they once could. I felt positive about helping one of our elderly out because they can use it at times and even why you are helping out your actually being great company to them. The lady who I volunteered my time to was very friendly and we actually had a great time with each other. I helped her maintain her yard and pack up some things in her home to donate to the Salvation Army. After we got done in her home we took a walk around our neighborhood to clean and recycle things. I felt really good about this because i know i made a difference in the community just by cleaning my neighborhood and accompanied my partner in cleaning her home, it was a wonderful feeling because I know she really needed the extra hand and she told me she wished there was more teens like me around, that melted my heart and made me want to lend a hand out whenever i have free time in my day. I chose to work with her because everyday after school i would see her outside doing yard work and kind of struggling with carrying supplies.
As a student at La Salle University, I volunteer in several community service opportunities. I volunteer for the Relay for Life event at La Salle where we raise up to $100,000 for cancer treatment and research. I also help painted an academic after school center in Camden, NJ with other volunteers. This opportunity was personal for me as it was an opportunity to give a small bit back to a place a few of my friends went to when younger. Over last summer I worked at several school age day care centers to help kids learn and catch up in reading and math that they should be at their age. Being able to help people makes me feel a sense of fulfillment, as so many people have help me through life.
My thoughts on working as an unpaid volunteer is that it in contrary to not earning any monetary currency is that pay is still actually earned. Even though there is no monetary value to the work you earn seven fold in knowledge, experience, and future application into work and college. The knowledge of different type of works, such as food kitchens, carpentry, and social skills. As well there is experience gained in any job that is worked with and that experience will help later in life. As well volunteer work is an appealing item to be on a college resume as well as work resumes since it shows concern for both the community and for other people.
I know that I can help people in need, so I'm interested in doing some volunteer work or anything that can help the less fortunate. This is part of my identity, which is meaningful and part of who I am. It all began in 10th grade when my teacher created a project based on the movie “Pay it Forward”, and in this project we had to do as many good deeds as possible in one semester. I went around Sao Paulo and did volunteer work, besides small good deeds in my own neighborhood. One of my good deeds was going around the city with a few kits containing a sandwich, some fruit, and a juice. We handed these kits out to several homeless people we found around the city. I felt great after doing
For my second language arts project I decided to do the lend a hand project where you volunteer to help an organization that helps the less fortunate. The organization I volunteered at is Kids Fighting Hunger for their 4th annual We are Thankful. I packaged food there from 11:00 am to 3:00pm on November 20th. This organization that I volunteered at packages food and sends it to countries that need it like Asia and Africa. Packaging food made me feel like I was making a difference like Mother Teresa said “if you can't feed a hundred people then just feed one.” Volunteering at places like Kids Fighting Hunger makes you think about how lucky we are to have food, a roof over your head and clothes to wear. Not everyone has these luxuries you should
To help the betterment of my community, I helped buy gifts for children who were less fortunate. The program is called Angel Trees and I did it through many organizations at school. I wrapped and bought items the children needed and wanted for Christmas and then delivered them to the company where they distribute them to the various children involved with the program. We always get nice thank you notes back saying that without the help from us they would not receive any presents for
The writing I did this semester for Engl 110c has meant alot to me because I was able to pick a topic that has such a huge impact in my life. I was able to do the topic about Navy Wives, which has a huge impact on me. I recently became a navy wife a year ago and my life has changed drastically. I was able to share everything I wanted to about the life of a military wife through my writings, as well as share to my classmates about my topic. I really enjoyed creating my ePortfolio because I could come out of my shell and be me. I made a ePortfolio website that would be for military wives to read. I believe this website would be perfect for any military wife reading it. I was able to give tips and information on what it’s like to be a military wife, how to prepare for deployments and how to stay strong being a military wife.
