Becoming involved in my community has been one of the greatest experiences in my high school years. The leadership qualities and memories I’ve made from volunteering built my character for the future. I will always feel the need to give back to my community. Some of the activities I was involved in include: Jump Rope for Heart, concession stands for sports, and tutoring for middle school students. My favorite volunteer experience was Little Hoopers. Little Hoopers is a basketball program at my school that teaches children from kindergarten to third grade about basic basketball skills. It took place during basketball season on Saturday mornings. My job was to correct any skills the kids were doing incorrectly, like passing the ball or shooting it. I also had to be sure the kids didn’t misbehave and give them advice if they ever discouraged themselves. I truly enjoyed seeing the children’s faces as they made a basket or accomplished a skill they’ve been trying incredibly hard to achieve. Their smiling faces put a smile on my face. …show more content…
Many of my volunteer opportunites involved kids. Helping the youth of my community, and any other community, brings bright minds to the future and ones that can continue the trend. Not only has volunteering helped children, but it also benefited me. I’ve built wonderful friendships and leadership skills from giving back. I learned the values of hard work and dedication. I will never regret giving back to my community because of all the experiences and characteristics I’ve received from it. I made my impression in my community and I hope the kids who I helped will do the
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or only do it because they have to meet the minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat second nature to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as freshman year, in high school, I found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school, where I came across the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly because
Since I was five years old I would always give my community a help hand, whether in beautifying my community by planting flowers, or by volunteering at local places. From the ages from five to ten my after school program would go around the neighborhood to plant flowers. In my town library I donated my time to help the children with hands-on activities to promote original ideas such as creating objects with everyday items. I have also volunteered a total of 36 hours for the American Cancer Society.
I have been blessed to live in a community that truly cares for people in need. It has been a joy to serve the community through Sack Packs and the All Kids Can tournaments. I serve because I am
Giving back to the community has always been one of my favorite activities. Seeing a smile on those people that are in need of help is a life changing experience. What could be a little act of kindness to us could make their entire day. Helping others is one of the reasons why I want to join the honors program.
I truly hope that the services I did provided even the smallest amount of help to my community, because I enjoyed every minute of it. Although I was not looking forward to this project, I would definitely do it again and I will continue to volunteer in the
From being active in my community I have learned that after giving, you receive the best feeling. My freshman year, my friends and I dressed up like Disney princesses and sang at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. I have gone back two more times because I am in love with cheering people up. Since this experience, I have made it a mission to always continue to participate in community service. From meals-on-wheels, to adopt-a-spot trash clean up I am always ready to help out the community.
While I may not have completed much community service, I act out of genuine passion and self-interest rather than anything else. I see little reason to volunteer for a group or cause I have no interest in. However, I do enjoy helping others in subjects I quite enjoy like computer science and programming. The Harrington Park School STEM Camp gave me an opportunity to teach elementary school children about programming, an opportunity I would take again and will take again this winter. Tutoring volunteer work under the
Since the summer of eighth grade I have volunteered at Essentia Health Hospital making tie blankets for inpatients. These patients are able to take the blankets home with them when they are well enough to leave the hospital. Moreover, I volunteer at my local church for a once-a-month food share. I help unload the food from the truck, sort out the rotten produce, and distribute the food among the shareholders. Additionally, I clean up highways and trails as a part of Green Club ,and I partake in numerous other volunteer opportunities within my school
Actively participating in the betterment of my community is a trait that my family has instilled in me. It not only makes the lives of others better but makes me feel satisfied in providing them that service, that being said I try to help whenever I can and wish to continue doing so for the rest of my life.
My neighborhood has greatly shaped my family and I in many ways. Going to church, sports, and school as well as aiding the community has shaped the person I am today. At church and school, I have cooperated with others in order to provide excellent community service for those less fortunate in the area, while of my own accord, I volunteer in the surrounding area such as Union City. For example, in Union City, I gave out turkeys for Thanksgiving to many who did not have the means to purchase one, while at school, I aided in the operation of the local food bank, and read to the elderly at the local nursing home. During the holiday season, I work with the Union City ROTC in managing donations to "Toys for Tots." There is a certain warmth to aiding others, and once you start, it is a warmth that guides you through the vast amount of coldness out in the world. I fully intend to
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
My community has done so much for me. Giving back to my community is the least I could do for what all it has done for
I have come to learn how essential it is to give back to your community. I unfortunately have not been exposed to much community events personally. any contribution rather small or large can make a positive impact. growing up in hawaii and learning the aloha spirit from a young age has influenced me in a great way. I feel that it is in me to help the next person.
The best parts of being in my community have been going and babysitting every week, learning to love and be "the cool teenager" that I always looked up to for the next generation of kids. These weren't just strangers but people who I come back to year after year because they are just as much part of my life as I have been as there, playing games, doing homework, burning popcorn- all of the memories that come from being together.
