Since childhood, I have always wanted to be a nurse. Nursing comes naturally for me. It is my passion to show empathy and compassion indiscriminately. I am already in a position of providing care in the role of caregiver, but a higher education will expand my scope of practice and feed my passion to grow professionally. I have worked in nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant since 2003. I have mostly worked for health care staffing agencies. I love working through agencies because I enjoy the opportunities to work with diverse patients in various settings. And I am grateful that I am able to quickly adapt to varied environments. No two days or patients are ever the same; each individual is with unique needs. In addition, I get to work with health care professionals and pick up skills that, in my opinion, cannot be taught in a classroom setting or a textbook. Compassion is a trait that I learned as a teenager. It was a beautiful nightmare to witness my youngest sister’s birth. The family was elated to welcome her into our world. She was beautiful, healthy and she was perfect. My mother had seven children. I am her second oldest. My sister, Esther, accomplished all the infancy and young toddler milestones. The milestones stopped at …show more content…
The doctors did neurological exams on Esther. My oldest brother and I interrogated them until they admitted they were driving Esther to Children’s Hospital for thorough exams because the doctors did not know what was preventing her development. During the process, my parents were secretive about the content and suspicions of the medical experts. One day they came back from the hospital with tears streaming down their eyes. My brother and I looked at them and they gazed back and that was it for that day. The following day, my dad could not contain himself no more and he told us that my perfect and beautiful sister was diagnosed with mild retardation and severe
The career that I plan on pursing would hands down have to be Certified Nursing Assistant. Some people may wonder why I decided to settle with this profession so I guess we’ll just have to take a walk down memory lane. Ever since I was a little girl I love watching nurses work. I never really realized how much I wanted to be a Certified Nursing Assistant until my grandmother took sick at home she had home aids come and see her routinely. I watched my grandmother struggle with her health issues and I also watched how caring and proficient the nurses were towards my grandmother. Seeing my grandmother go through the things she went through definitely made it clear to me that I wanted to do in life. And that was helping all others just like my
Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant was the biggest challenge I’ve ever taken on. My decision to become a nursing assistant started when I was in ninth grade. My class went on a field trip to the high school and we took a tour to the Health Occupational Students of America classroom. As I walked into the room, I knew right there that it was the class for me. My instructors, Mrs. Livings, and Mrs. Jorgensen were fantastic, and never failed me as a health care
"BOOM!" "BANG!", went my mom of her feet onto the floor! I ran over to help pick her up off the floor. I got her into the bed and checked for any scrapes or bruises. After I got her all patched up and comfortable I came to realize that the last time this happened she hadn't had her medicine in days. So I proceeded to give her the correct medication and stayed over the next few days to nurse her back to health. Over those few days even at a young age, I realized that the medical field was just for me. I enjoyed doing what I did to help my mom and wanted to continue to help others the same way I helped her.
Learning to becoming a CNA was the greatest opportunity and experience I could have done for myself. It has changed me as a person and as a caregiver. I have built amazing relationships with my residents non like any other. They have become my family. Because of my residents, I have learned a great lesson. The best way to give the best quality care is to treat people as if they were family; and that is what has brought me to become a great certified nursing assistant. I have such great relationships with my residents and because of that I am able to see the impacts I have on people. I am able to see their faces light up when I walk into their rooms. Everyday has brought great joy to my life and to be a part of a person’s life, like I have been,
After I graduate, I am trying to get into the RIBN Program through Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College and Western Carolina University. I know becoming a nurse is the right job for me because no matter what I am going through in life someone else’s life matters more than mine. Recently I just finished my 40 hours at the Laurels of Greentree Ridge Nursing Home; this is time that I had to spend with my Nursing Fundamentals class to be able to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. I can honestly say it was nothing compared to what I thought it was going to be. I am one who always does more than I am asked to. I go over and beyond to make someone feel comfortable because no one wants to be in a nursing home. I knew becoming a nurse was
The career I researched about is a Nursing Assistant. Nursing Assistants help patients with the daily things we do as individuals to help ourselves. The personal qualities and abilities within this job is getting the special things the patient needs in order to be healthy, such as grooming the patient, brushing the teeth of the patient, observing them, helping patients walk, making their beds, and they helping with the bowel and bladder problems for their care. In the United states it is required for Health care facilities to have Nursing Assistants. The educational requirements for a Nursing Assistant is to have a CNA credential and also a state registration. Nursing Assistants need to take programs such as a certificate program in nursing assistance. Usually you may go to a community college to have the proper education needed for the job or you may go to a university. The certificate program to become a nursing assistant takes about 18 weeks or a whole semester. Lastly they need to
Last weekend was the most exasperating weekend I have worked in a long time. This weekend is my first anniversary, I did not want to work. I wanted to be home with my family to prepare for the celebration. I have an exam on Monday, needed to read about five books, the nurse told me I needed to read up on pleasantry tactics. My priorities are to make sure that I accomplish all of my motherly, wifely duties and fulfilling my duties as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). I have been at the job for 12 hours now, due someone had called off I am ready to go I have a lot of planning to do and not enough time to accomplish what needs to be done before the weekend.
The course I wish to study is Nursing because I have always had a fascination as a child watching those in the health industry help those that were sick and at their most vulnerable become better again. As a child my younger brother and I both spent our first months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and my dream is to be able to work in women’s health as well as working with infants and children who are sick and in need of help like we were. I have never doubted if Nursing would be the right career choice for
My mother received a high school diploma and was not able to attend college due to the fact that my grandparents needed help financially. She had to take on various responsibilities at a young age and could not afford a college education. My mother then decided to go back to school years after she gave birth to me and enrolled in a medical program where she would later become a Certified Nursing Assistant. My mother’s strong motivation and determination enabled her to make something of herself. Her perseverance motivated me to aim high for my goals and succeed. Although she had obtained a job, she still does not have the financial means to send me to college. Therefore, receiving a scholarship or any type of grant whether it is twenty dollars
Imagine having two kids with a wide array of physical and mental complications. Raising my brother and I was no easy task. Working as a certified nursing assistant is what my mom does best. My parents separated when I was at the age of three. When my father felt he had too much on his plate, he thought it would be alright if he left; because, honestly he wanted nothing to do with us. When my mom was ready to be married, she did not have an arranged marriage like her sister. My mom has felt miserable her whole life. doing everything; and I mean everything with her mom. There was not one decision she got the opportunity to make for herself. She figured that this was the right thing to do. That she did. She ended up getting married at a small
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of working in a hospital. My dream was to be a doctor or a nurse. In the fall of 2014, I became a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). During the experience of volunteering at a nursing home, I realized that direct patient contact was not my calling. I researched many websites on the Internet and found that Health Information Technology would be the perfect job for me. This career mostly involves a hospital setting and clerical work, which I thoroughly enjoy doing.
The picture that I envision for myself is possibly working as a director of services for one of the retirement homes in my area. I am currently applying for areas of sales and service. I cannot completely run or manage a retirement or nursing home with the proper licensing in my state. By moving into a center at this level I can learn some of the aspects of the business before I get the necessary licenses or certifications.
I have been inspired to join the nursing profession, after seeing the care that my father had received during his battle with heart disease. Theses nurses had a huge impact on with me and my family. I knew that I wanted to have that ability to help the patients along with their families impacting them directly with their medical and emotional care. By achieving my degree in nursing, I will be able to help patient and family that are suffering from heart disease.
Nursing became my dream career due to various experiences that has occurred in my life. This includes experiencing the journey of my grandfather’s health difficulty that lead to his death; my hunger to acquire knowledge and skills of a nurse; several role models; and wanting to experience a whole new world that comes with being a medical student. Nursing to me is more than just a field of study, but rather a lifestyle I want to insert into my daily life. Being able to implicate that into my daily routine excites me to begin my journey as a medical student.
My desire to pursue a nursing career stems from a deeply rooted love for the medical field. As a child, I was fascinated with the healthcare setting, so I set my heart on a path towards the field of medicine. Growing up, my mom worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a local nursing home. I remember going to work with her at the age of eight for bring your child to work day. I instantly fell in love with caring for others who were unable to do for themselves. I have always been a kind and compassionate person willing to give my last to make sure others do not have to go without. The satisfaction I felt from being able to brighten my mother’s patient’s day just by offering a helping hand was irreplaceable. From that moment on I knew the medical field was home for me.
