I’m interested in being an arts counselor because I enjoy doing art in my free time. I had done this last summer and really enjoyed it. I found it so much fun to help the children get in touch with their creative sides. I really enjoy watercolor, drawing and i dabble with animation. I have previously taken classes at the art center such as a watercolor, acting, sewing, and comic book designing classes. I take art at school where we had done a variety of different projects such as drawing and shading an inanimate object. Recently I have taken an animation workshop at North Carolina State.
I grew up alongside the wild Rocky Mountain Columbines, where the air is crisp and the winters are long. I spent my time engaging in the arts such as acting, writing, and creating. From a young age I was drawn to the world of imagination and found happiness through producing art. We all face and over come challenges within our lives and whenever I am faced with hardship I find comfort in visually expressing myself.
The choices we make early in life have an enormous impact on our future. I have always known that I wanted to directly impact people’s lives and my personal experiences have set me on the school-counseling path. In the future, I would love to influence another generation of students to soar for their dreams.
It was during my senior year of college that I decided I wanted to become a school counselor. Up until my senior year in college at Penn State I did not know where I wanted to take my career but I knew I wanted to work in a school setting and I knew that I wanted to work with kids. When it came time to choose an internship site for my last semester, I chose an alternative school called Buxmont Academy in Bethlehem where I would be shadowing two of their school counselors as well as engaging with the students themselves. I got to work with these children on a more personal level, gaining an understanding of their emotions, experiences, and difficulties, as most of these children came from broken homes, and drug and alcohol related settings. I am interested in becoming a school counselor because I want to help. When I become a counselor I want to make a difference in a child’s life whether that be by simply giving them support that they might not have in their lives or helping them make changes to better themselves and their futures. A counselor has such an important role in helping to shape young children and that is something that I want to be a part of.
My name is Courtney Torok and I am currently a senior here at Kennesaw State University. I am graduating this December with a degree in psychology. I am originally from Michigan and moved down here to Georgia with my family just before starting at Kennesaw State University. I started off majoring in chemistry with the intent of applying to some kind of medical program, but eventually found that my passion was psychology. I have always wanted to work in the “helping” field. After graduating, I plan on applying to graduate school for school psychology programs where I will earn both my Master of Science in School Psychology and Specialist in School Psychology degrees. Ideally, I would love to be accepted into a graduate school in Florida, as
As a psychology student with an extensive background in Fine Arts, I bring a unique perspective to the mental health field. My interest in psychology began with the curiosity regarding the relationship between art and mental health. South Korea, my birthplace, has some of the longest working hours of any country. While working in Korea, I witnessed the results of work-related stress such as depressive mood and anxiety. However, there existed stigma related to mental disorders due to cultural expectations. Rather than visiting professionals in the mental health industry, many ascribed mental instabilities to their lack of willpower. This phenomenon spurred me to consider artistic activities in dealing mental distress. Eventually, I was motivated to study Psychology at Ryerson University; I hope to keep my path toward Art Therapy at Concordia University.
What do I imagine, assume or know about becoming an Art Therapist, I imagine that this career will be rewarding. I assume that training is necessary. I know hard work is important. Through my research, it is my goal to discover if this is the right job for me. I envision that becoming Art Therapist will be difficult.
When I left CBS, I was pretty well-known as an art director and I had won awards from Communication Arts, Graphis, AIGA, and the Art Director’s Club. I would get my work into all of their competitions, and if there was a record cover category, I would clean up. I had also worked with every illustrator on the planet, which helped promote my work even more. I was a bit of a wunderkind: I joined the board of AIGA when I was 30, and I was the youngest person there. I met Massimo Vignelli; Colin Forbes, the founder of Pentagram; Woody Pirtle; and Michael Vanderbyl—and we became friends and compatriots. Unfortunately, I had visibility, but I didn’t have self-assurance. I wanted to leave CBS to do something else, but I couldn’t get a job as a magazine

My commitment to arts management and policy developed through my extracurricular involvement in the performing arts and work as a Development Assistant at Primary Stages, an off-Broadway theatre company in New York City. I am applying for the MA in Arts Management, Policy, and Practice in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester due to its emphasis on practical skills and work experience. Moreover, as I pursue a career as a performing arts manager, the university’s proximity to arts and cultural organizations will provide opportunities to engage with the competitive field of arts administration.
How did I decide I wanted to become a professional artist? Choosing to become an artist was an easy decision for me. I chose art because I am very good at art and I knew I would be able to succeed in art even on my worse days. Many people think art is just an hobby. Art is something very deep and it has many inspiring meanings. In art you just do not just color, draw, paint, or sculpt things. You will learn more about art like: the principles, elements, and the basics of art. In this speech, I will outline the job description, preparation and advantage/disadvantages of a careers in Fine Art.
My goal and main objective is to be an actor, that people who feel alone can connect to. When I was really down, I felt like there was no one I could connect to; except for the characters I would see in movies and tv shows. It was the characters that I saw myself in, that gave me hope. The characters actors play bring a new sense of belonging to the people who watch them and that's something I want to payback for the hope I was given.
I just came across Stem while reading Music Business Worldwide and wanted to reach out to see if now (or in the near future) you need help in Project Management, Account Management, Strategy and/or Operations?
Briefly describe the expected internship experience and the type of support you will receive from your site supervisor(s);
School counseling as always caught my attention. When I started my higher education, I had a focus on studying Elementary Education. However, after completing a college assignment for one of my psychology course, I found a very interested area in Psychology which is counseling. Since then, I have falling in love with counseling, and have spent a lot of time researching the career. I have conducted different interviews and have engaged in different counseling events that have helped me get to know the career. Therefore, when given this assignment, I felt more than prepared because I have spent a lot of time researching this career. However, I used the given source, ONET, to have more of a broad understanding about School Counseling.
