I believe in the death penalty. Although it sounds gruesome, I believe it should be a consequence in certain conditions. This does not mean I feel every person who did something wrong should be killed. Honestly, I think it should be up to the judge. If someone killed another person due to gang related violence, I don’t feel they should be put to the death penalty. However, when we had our recent Kalamazoo shooting where an Uber driver went mentally ill and killed multiple people and injured others, it is a completely different story. I feel he should be sentenced to the death penalty. Just to know he went crazy and ended life's, makes me wonder if he can get out of prison and do it again. To me I think it depends on the circumstances when
One of the most widely debated and criticized methods of punishment in the United States is the Death Penalty. The Death Penalty is an issue that has the United States quite divided. While there are many supporters of it, there is also a large amount of opposition. Currently, there are thirty-three states in which the death penalty is legal and seventeen states that have abolished it according to the Death Penalty Information Center. There is no question that killing another person is the most atrocious criminal act that one can commit. I am not sure why, but it seems that the United States government is being hypocritical when it says that capital punishment is acceptable because a criminal did murder an innocent victim, and therefore
Capital punishment and the practice of the death penalty is an issue that is passionately debated in the United States. Opponents of the death penalty claim that capital punishment is unnecessary since a life sentence accomplishes the same objective. What death penalty opponents neglect to tell you is that convicted murders and child rapists escape from prison every year(List of prison escapes, 2015). As I write this essay, police are searching for two convicted murders who escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York on June 6th, 2015. The ONLY punishment from which one cannot escape is the death penalty.
There are many reasons to both support and oppose the death penalty. Many people can feel very strongly about whether or not they approve of this method of punishment. I feel that the death penalty is wrong, and I believe that there is much support to back this up. I believe that the death penalty is wrong because it is not an effective deterrent, racially and economically bias, unreliable, expensive, and morally wrong of society.
The death penalty is very serious. There is certain crime that doesn’t fit the death penalty such as manslaughter. Manslaughter is an accident because they were under the influence of alcohol. They didn’t mean to do it. I think we need to rethink the punishment for the
I, myself, don’t support the death penalty and I believe it’s unethical. There has have been many cases where someone has been sentenced to death row and then after they had already been executed, officials found out that they had the wrong person in custody, and once this is done it can’t be undone. Run on sentence, but it is an important point to make. Add an article citation here that has an example of this. There is also the fighting fire with fire argument, that killing someone for killing someone else doesn’t solve anything or make it justified. It doesn’t seem to make sense to say that “Because you killed someone, we’re going to get back at you by killing you.” This is called “retributive justice” Also, if the death penalty wasn’t enacted, these criminals could end up spending the rest of their lives in prison with the guilt and this could be a more harshharsher punishment than just being put to death. In some of the cases, it is family members or friends that
If someone committed a crime serious enough to warrant the death penalty then he/she should face the reality of it and just accept it. As it stands there are some people who should be on death row an example would be George Zimmerman. But I guess some people think that taking that person’s life is a little extreme. But at the end of the day if you did something serious enough to warrant it then you should face the reality of
Honestly yes i do support the death penalty. I do not however support it for every crime. I would support it for being charged with multiple rape offences, murderers and serial killers
I, as well as many others, have total confidence in the death penalty. It is a very beneficial component of our justice system. The death penalty saves lives. It saves lives because it stops those who murder from ever murdering again. It also deters potential murderers from ever committing the crime.
The Death Penalty Discussion In today’s world terrible crimes are being committed daily. Many people believe that these criminals deserve one fate; death. Death penalty is the maximum sentence used in punishing people who kill another human being and is a very controversial method of punishment. Capital punishment is a legal infliction of death penalty and since ancient times it has bee used to punish a large variety of offences.
“Murder is wrong” (“Capital Punishment”). We’ve been taught this indisputable truth since childhood. The death penalty is defined as one human taking the life of another. Coincidentally, that is a classification of murder. There are as many as thirty-six states with the death penalty, and it’s essential that they change it. The United States needs the death penalty abolished because it is filled with flaws, cruel and immoral, and is an ineffective means of deterrent for crime.
I strongly believe in the death penalty because it deters crime. According to James Pitkin (2008) “Advocates of the death penalty argue that it deters crime, is a good tool for police and prosecutors (in plea bargaining for example), makes sure that convicted criminals do not offend again and is a just penalty for atrocious crimes such as child murders, serial killers or torture murderers.”
I believe that every human being is put on earth for a reason, and no individual or state has the right to take away a life. When a crime of death row caliber is committed, that criminal should not be killed, rather, that individual should be placed in prison without parole. States who continue to apply this punishment must realize that the cons outweigh the pros and abolishing capital punishment is morally correct, can save people thousands of dollars, and will ultimately end a useless punishment. Nothing good comes of hate, and nothing good can ever come of capital
The death penalty is something about which many people do not have a clear opinion. It is considered to be the punishment of execution, administered to someone convicted of a capital crime. Many people support the death penalty, while others wish for the death penalty to be abolished. My personal opinion on the death penalty is that it should be administered only in cases of certain crimes such as: serial murder, serial rape, and terrorism.
Are you for or against the death penalty? Do you even know what the death penalty is? The Death Penalty is when a person is charged for a crime and receives punishment such as execution, and is put on death row. It has been a back and forth argument over decades on rather or not we should instill the death penalty. A common belief among people is, if someone commits murder, then they need to be put on death row, but if someone commits a crime for stealing jewelry, they don’t need to be put on death row. I believe there should be no death penalty due to wrongly accused, mental illness, and deterrence; also I will comment on other arguments as well. Even though most people, like the victims’ family will argue for the death penalty, there will be others who will argue against the death penalty. Whenever a defendant has been wrongly accused, it gives them a bad reputation. Also, if one is accused but actually innocent, then the person who was running the case could and should get in trouble. The police and investigators might have missed steps, didn’t thoroughly think the evidence through or obtained weak evidence. In most cases, the criminal is examined for a mental illness and if they are positive then their lawyer argues for them. I don’t believe one with a mental illness should be put away in prison or be executed because they may not know what they did wrong. Deterrence is basically whenever you try
Do you believe that people should get the death penalty? People should get the death penalty because Americans are just wasting our money on criminals who aren't learning their lesson. People should get the death penalty because they have far too many privileges in prison that people actually want to go there. People should get the death penalty because if there is a bigger consequence for their actions there wouldn't be as many people in jail. It would be advantageous for the American civilization to adopt the death penalty as a common penalty.
