I have started a service club called Irmo Arts Outreach, it was a dream that I was able to turn a reality. The club Means a lot to me because it was inspired by my favorite cousin, who lost the battle to cancer on March 23, 2016, at the age of 19. She liked giving back to the community, she volunteered at her local hospital and library, and she tutored kids who needed help. So I wanted to start a club which helps kids with terminal illnesses, it with would have been called Spark. That was because she sparked a passion in me and I wanted to spark a passion in others. I wanted to teach the kids how to play musical instruments such as keyboard and guitar. The teachers would kids fro my local high school, and the good part is it would be free of
The National Honor Society is for high school seniors who have “demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character”. At John Marshall we really push the “service” area. There are so many different reason I wanted to be a part of NHS; It gives me satisfaction that I was able to become a member of such an elite society, it also is very rewarding to give back to a community that has done so much for me. Each service project I have volunteered at has taught me something different. Since July, I have volunteered at eleven different projects (over 32 hours), and I have learned something new every time. When I volunteered at the Marshall County Family Resource Network’s gift packaging for teenagers at Cameron High and Middle, Moundsville Middle, Sherrard Middle and John Marshall High Schools, I didn’t realize there were so many of my peers in need of simple hygiene products. It inspired me to help and give back to them by donating to Paws for a Cause at John
Volunteering for the St. Vincent DePaul Community Meals program, since the age of ten, has given me the ability to assist others while simultaneously sparking my desire to help people. Preparing and serving healthy, hot meals provides people in need with a nutritional alternative to an empty stomach. I am a member of various clubs such as National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, International Club, Gender Equality Club, and Global Issues Club. Holding several positions from President to Secretary, these roles offer me responsibilities which allow me to learn balance. I am also heavily involved with the music program. Music has given me the courage to do things such as perform at
My love for Performing Arts began when i was in secondary school in year seven. I was a very shy child and i would not speak much, but when i auditioned for my first musical 'Grease' that all changed . By performing it gave me confidence to approach people in my day to day life which before this i struggled with. Ever since then my passion for performing has grown dramatically, and i continually strive to become a better performer and show the highest standard of work possible.
I am very passionate when it comes to helping out in my community and around the school, whether it be volunteering to go door to door to raise awareness as part of the Pencils for Kids club, or helping find potential donors for bone marrow transplants. A big way in which I am involved in my school is through the LEAD Club for the second year now, where I am able to enhance my leadership abilities, by organizing and running many events and give back to the community. By donating to organizations such as Free The Children and 360 Kids, it has allowed me to see the difference I can make in my own community. Through my dedication on the executive council of LEAD, I feel inspired to help students develop a variety of skills by leading various workshops,
I have been involved in a lot of causes similar to those that have been experienced by a lot of my classmates. I really enjoy serving others, I believe it is the most powerful weapon that we have in the war for souls. One of my most memorable was serving at the Special Olympics. I was allowed to work with a special group, I help them get to different events and assist them with lining up. I was so inspired and humble. There were so genuinely happy and filled with real joy. We might say that they were dealt a “bad hand“ or they were unfortunate, if this were true they did not know it. BIG smiles laughter, encouraging each other, just positive spirits and faces everywhere! It changed my life. We loose of joy due to
My commitment to arts management and policy developed through my extracurricular involvement in the performing arts and work as a Development Assistant at Primary Stages, an off-Broadway theatre company in New York City. I am applying for the MA in Arts Management, Policy, and Practice in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester due to its emphasis on practical skills and work experience. Moreover, as I pursue a career as a performing arts manager, the university’s proximity to arts and cultural organizations will provide opportunities to engage with the competitive field of arts administration.
Throughout my high school years I have tried to help others in as many ways as possible. I have joined and become the leader of countless organizations. In 11th and 12th grade I joined an organization called Build On, where we raise money to help build schools for underprivileged third world countries. Once the money is raised a select group is chosen to go to the chosen country and help build a school by hand. In addition, I am a head counselor of an organization called Bnei Akiva, where every other weekend we teach younger children about leadership responsibilities and the state of Israel. In 9th and 10th grade, I received school approval to start a school club that promoted fitness and healthy living. Club meetings were held twice a
It all started when I decided to join the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) club as well as Student Senate in grade 8 where I would volunteer and participate in variety of events around the school that included food sales and school dances. Through the mentorship of older students, I was taught many skills and given the chance to help around the school whether it be by fundraising for the “Hydration Station” that is now in our school through food sales or helping to plan and create school dances throughout the school year for the enjoyment and entertainment for students of all ages at the school. Ever since joining these two clubs in the eighth grade, I have continued to be apart of them as both a volunteer and now a Leader. Under my Leadership of these two clubs, we have successfully raised enough money to
A significant service experience that I have accomplished in my life are the Little Arrow Volleyball Camps. I have done the camps for 3 years and loved it each time. I helped the kids with drills and learning basic movements in volleyball. Multiple times I was in charge of a team of kids to play against a different teams. I showed them how to do simple plays and how to different techniques. Each you the kids always have a great time because I and others make it fun for them. The camp last for three days and the kids get better and better as the days move on. I am very energetic and excited which makes the kids happy to be there and when they score a point! On the last day we all got to play some fun games and eat some ice cream; we also competed
Being able to give back to others has always been major theme in my life especially after battling cancer three times. Having to battle something so serious and scary is something I know all to well, however having people who were there to help and support me gave me hope. After becoming cancer free my parents and I started a organization called the Hobe Sound Raven, which was created to help children in bad situations that range from physical/mental abuse, being placed in a foster care, having parents that don’t take care of them, having a illness, and living in poverty. We bring NFL players to come coach different teams and provide them with equipment and other necessities to play football. We want to give these children an escape, somewhere that their minds can run free and having fun is the only rule.
A large amount of my community service has been spent in some type of child care facility.Weather it be at an elementary school, assiting basketball, chruch events, or even at the day care. Working with kids so much has made me realise just how much one person can make a positive impact in their lives. It’s what drives me to become a Pediatric Physical Therapist. Not only am I just spending time with these kids, but I am showing them how to be a leader as well as a good person in showing them how that can reflect on our community.
Recently, I partnered with an organization called S.H.A.P.E (Self-esteem, Harmony, Awareness, Pride, & Education) to assist with fund raising for scholarships. I created a T-Shirt for the organization and 100% of the proceeds went towards to scholarship. This opportunity gave me a chance to take the leadership role on creating the necessary steps in organizing and managing with the founding leaders. This scholarship was able to raise $1,500 and three $500 scholarships were presented to students in need of the financial
During the beginning of my sophomore year I would constantly hear students around school converse about wanting to help out the community but didn't know where to start, where to go, or who to talk too about it. I was explaining to my friend about a school club idea that I had, which was to open a club that would help students find ways to assist the community and also receive community service hours for doing so.Therefore, starting junior year my friend and I submitted paperwork to start our own school club, we named it the CAS Hour Club. Our club was composed of many students, from all grade levels, both girls and boys eager to help out the community. We had many club meetings where we brainstormed about many interesting ideas and projects that we could possibly bring to life. We used ideas from our club members to organize many events such as community and beach clean-ups.
I have always enjoyed contributing to, and bettering my community. Most of my free time during high school has been taken up by Key Club and Robotics. What extra time I have is devoted to helping my friends complete their work to the best of their ability. I have been an active member of the Fridley High School Key Club for all four of my years in high school. Key Club is an international volunteer organization overseen by Kiwanis. Robotics has been my other passion for the past three years and i’m proud to have been a factor contributing to the team’s recent success. The real success I feel every day is in the friends I have and the way I help them and they help me, not only in robotics but also in school and life. My work has also taught
I took part in a school club, Habitat for Humanity (HFH), for two years since 10th grade. During the years, I participated in a regularly scheduled bake sales, twice every semester, and volunteered in activities hosted by Habitat for Humanity. HFH held two large events annually, which were festivals and fashion shows in school. I volunteered in these events every year and helped to raise funds that were sent to Cambodia to provide a clean water supply. Furthermore, I went on a voluntary trip to Cambodia to help build houses for people in need. For a week, 20 members of HFH, including myself, was able to help build restrooms at a school located in the rural areas of Siem Reap.
