Personal statement
My aspirations within the field are to advocate for social change and advance the quality of life of the underrepresented Latino community in the City of Philadelphia. I am certain that earning a Master in Social Work will equip me with the tools necessary to do this in a caring and supportive way. I am a firm believer of social change and that by helping our communities, change can be achieved. I am passionate about children, families and minorities. Being from a minority group myself, I am able to relate to those who have a similar background. Temple University Master in Social Work program is the best match for my goals and aspirations within the field.

Instead, the advocates for victim services at the District Attorney’s office were those who in fact did what I wanted to do with a Law degree. For instance, the advocates would connect with clients and follow up with these even after their cases were closed. At the District Attorney’s office, I was able to have one on one contact with victims and live their emotions along with them while analyzing the behavior and responses of attorneys towards their clients and compare the same with that of the social workers. I found that some attorneys lacked the ability to empathize and relate to their clients. In fact, the behavior of some attorneys was methodical and studied which was not what I sought for myself.
Furthermore, while working with the Social Workers at the District Attorney’s Office I noticed that the Social workers had to be present in court for each of the cases they had been assigned. The social worker was always with the victim as a support system for them. In some cases, when the victims did not wanted to be present in the court room the Social worker would take the victim to a room right at the entrance of the court room. At times I would stay with the victims while the advocate handled other matters. One of my favorite part of the advocate work was Court School. In my unit the Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit, many of the victims were children

My plans immediately following graduation is to pursue a job as a licensed child/family social worker or a clinical social worker. Domestic violence and sexual assault is the social issue of focus for Advocates, however, it is a major social issue that needs to be addressed. This is a social issue that social workers are involved in, therefore, it is very applicable to social work. Not only are social workers involved, but others in the community are involved as well. Advocates involves the community by allowing for volunteer opportunities. When I think of my career goals, I ask myself what I want to accomplish in life. I know that I love helping patients and families, and I want to continue to do that. I always am changing my mind on what I want to do after my BSN. I don’t know when or if I will get my masters or continue to work at the bedside for a while. I love what I do and what I do for other people and families. Working in the critical care unit feels like home. I get to do what I love.
My desire to help young adolescents who are remanded to the foster system regardless of their circumstances has pushed me in pursuing a Criminal Justice degree and has furthered my desire to become a Victim Advocate. Understanding how the criminal justice system works will only make me a better Victim Advocate. The ability to provide information and consolation on what victimization is, can help anyone who is going through a traumatizing experience. It can even lessen the intensity of trauma when there is someone present who understands and can empathize with the victim. A Victim Advocate is also essential in explaining the legal and protections of a victim, providing information on the criminal justice process, providing emotional

I am pursuing a graduate degree in social work at this time because there is a great need for social workers to enhance the social well-being of disenfranchised persons. When I was growing up educational, environmental, and economic inequalities in my neighborhood meant hardship and uncertainty for youth and families. Witnessing the unaddressed trauma from these hardships in the community became a growing concern for me. Social workers are needed to assist with remedying the plight of the poor and disenfranchised.
I decided to apply to the social work master because I have encountered a lot of different experiences, problems, and achievements over the past four years. Similarly, I have always had a deep desire for helping others in a caring and supportive way. I faced many obstacles through my adolescent years such as: having an eating disorder, self-harm, and depression. After going through therapy, I realized that I wanted to help young people to overcome problems and to be able to help them to move forward in life. I want to make them comprehend that change is possible as long as the person want it.
A Victims Advocate is of interest as it supports and assists people through their dispositions by conveying empathy, proper linkage to community resources, and provides exclusive assistance with litigation issues. This position helps individuals’ transition smoothly into society after suffering from
As graduate students of the Social Work profession, we must be aware of our rights and responsibilities to our clients, colleagues, and community. Ignorance of the law does not excuse a person from liability if the law is broken. Further, obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the role of Social Workers in the protection of minors from abuse shows more complete socialization in the profession. The Mandatory Reporter training is a good tool for ensuring we are properly educated on the law and our role within the scope of the

The VAU’s original function was to educate victims on the judicial process and information on the status of disposition in the criminal case. In 1991, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) was hired
I volunteered for more than 60 hours for Substation33 as a 3D Printing Engineer and Youth Engagement assistant. This non-profit organization is recycling electronic waste and everyone is welcome here who wants to work, and obtain admired work experience. My role was to help to fulfill the company’s goal and build fifteen 3D printers –partly from recycled materials- by establishing an assembly line for this reason. My work -along with other university student’s- had an extensive positive impact on this project, as by the end of this semester the printers are about ready. Thanks for my earlier experience in manufacturing, I had an impact on my team mates as well, as I could teach them practical skills, such as how to solder effectively and nicely. The organization’s benefited from our work, as the printers will be donated to schools with an exclusive purpose: to engage children in learning and recycling in an interesting way.
