I have been interested in art from the time I was placed in kindergarten. I used to enjoy drawing small images on papers with marker and putting a doughnut of tape on the back to make a sticker. My mom praised me enough for these stickers that I decided it was my strong point; making art was what I was good at. In third grade I started drawing dogs and animal characters from television shows, and other kids seemed to be impressed. I didn't understand how difficult drawing could be until a girl asked me to draw a horse for her. Though I tried my best, the result was poor enough that the girl laughed at me. I ended up feeling like I should improve on my existing skills, and so I learned more about different art styles. Origami is a type of art
As a young child, I often transformed my grandma's dwelling into my own personal canvas. Fueled by morning cartoons, I would concoct detailed illustrations of the oddities in my imagination and intricate pictures of my family and surrounding. It was evident I had been blessed. I was never discouraged from my routine doodling either, just encouraged to channel that creativity on to anything but our walls. When I started public schooling some years later I was introduced to the scope of what art really was. Painting, drawing, photography-It was a world unknown to me then. The way we experimented with every medium early on was perfect for my inquisitive nature. For years I invested in what I now consider to be my craft, with the guidance of numerous
As an individual who’s been drawing and painting since before she could even hold a pen – apparently, I used to spill my grandma’s tea and make shapes with it – art has always been my favorite pastime. It’s tranquil and relaxing, and mixing paints is the most satisfying experience. Thus, it’s no wonder that the activity that I’m most invested in is art.
I started drawing when I was 16. I was cursing 10th grade, or how is called in my country, Dominican Republic “Segundo de Bachillerato”. It was recess. I was alone in my classroom that day, besides two or three people who were just killing time there, and I didn’t had much to do with my time. I was at the last book of a series of books which names I can’t remember and If I recall correctly the last book was very boring for some reason so I didn’t wanted to read it anymore. So, looking for something to do, I stood from my seat and walked boringly down the aisle of chairs and that was, not my first interaction with art, but the first time I remember i liked art or paid attention to it. Yerkis, a guy of my class: short, chubby and well mannered
As an elementary school student, I joined an after school club in which simple origami constructions were taught, in addition to reading and drawing manga. From this, I met one of my first childhood friends, with us bonding over drawing characters and animals in the manga style we learned. I personally preferred origami, and still enjoy making cranes out of lunch receipts, but we became good friends from this
While working as a designer, I developed own illustration style using pens and watercolours. Since these two materials are readily accessible and easy to learn, I believe this method would be useful and enough for the public to express their ideas and bring a sense of pride and accomplishment. Throughout my years of teaching high school students at the Smile Art Institute of South Korea, I successfully aided students in honing their artistic abilities through the use of various mediums including pastels and watercolours – students were taught to create 2D and 3D artworks with precision description. I would like to share these experiences with others, who may think art as “difficult”, or requiring “natural talent”, and become a positive influence in approaching artistic
When I was younger, I started with making collages, and as I grew older and developed a better eye for shape and detail I started drawing with graphite, colored pencil, illustration markers, and pastel. About three years ago, I became really interested in painting, which is the main medium I use. I use art as a way to express myself and illustrate my best memories the way that I see them. Using specific color schemes and symbols to represent my best memories helps bring me right back to that place when I look back at piece that I’ve finished. Art is my way of remembering the best moments in my
Why is being a fancy dancer such a big deal? This is the dance of the Native American Fancy Shawl. This dance interests a lot of people because many people do not believe that Natives exist, never have seen one dance, or even a fancy dancer dance before. “ This style of dance is the newest style of Native American dance there is.” In the early 1920’s, Native American women started to dance the Fancy Shawl dance which was very uncommon. In the 1950’s, women became more aware of the Fancy Shawl dance and started to dance the dance more in the Southern Tribes (“The Evolving Beauty of the Fancy Shawl Dance”). Most of the dances that the Natives Americans dances started from the men, due to the women wanting to dance like the men did. When started
Whilst observing the capturing pieces of art at the Majorie Barrick Museum, I had encountered a piece that has truly grasped my attention. When we had the art tour guides guide us around the musuem to observe 3/4 specific pieces, I noticed they all were different with similar ties. They all had something unique about them, from the "graphite splatter" to the "thinned out chair leg" and the "fill in the vowels" worksheet found in a first grade work book. I've also noticed that art varies with age. If you ask a first grader to create art, we would most likely result in a piece of paper with splatters and stick figures, (yet there are a few youngsters with different mindsets), but what we don't know is that it has a certain meaning to them. Now
What is your idea of art? Art can be made in many different styles from Earth art made with sticks and stones to a beautiful painting. You can also make art from scraps such as broken tools. These are all different kinds of art, many artists are known for certain kinds of art.
I’ll admit, sometimes I wonder myself. Hence, I looked back at all my drawings and dug up a bit of my past, and found my answer. Like many others, I was coloring pictures with my Mom and drawing little stick figures as long as I could remember. I loved to do it back then, and even now that trait has been carried along. Eventually though, as I grew older, the art-lover in me started to die away, games and outdoors filling the void. However, of course this mind set did not last. Long days out in the hot sun get boring and you just need to sometimes do more restful activities. In approximately late 2015, seeing a younger kid coloring just as I had once, gave me a burst of sudden inspiration. Alternatively, this time coloring was not what I had in mind, and getting a piece of blank paper, a suitable board to rest it on, and a pencil, I set to drawing. Back then, my main interest was in animals, specifically wolves. Though wanting to draw a wolf, I didn’t know how, and not sharpening my skills the past years my art was beginning to look a little sketchy. Popping up Google on my I-Pad and searching for how-to-easy videos, when I saw Art ala Carte’s how to draw a cartoon wolf pup, I knew that was the one. Finally, many Art ala Carte videos later, my bed was then filled with papers on
My parents would always force me to study, so therefore, I would always study hard and try to finish my daily chores as soon as possible so I can find time to squeeze in art. My parents always expected me to receive high grades, so as they wished, I gradually stopped doing art and focused more on studying throughout my school years. However, my passion for art never decreased, but had to be hidden deep inside my heart. I always had to convince myself that art was something I could do as a hobby and there was something more important that I needed to focus on for a brighter future, however, I was
I am also an artist. I started painting when I was five years old. Not only do I enjoy painting, but also sculpting and drawing. My artwork has been featured in the local newspapers, several art competitions and even the Florida State Fair. I have won several awards including monetary ones. You can view some of my art pieces at www.CherisAngels.com under the 'Cheri's Art Portfolio'
My parents were never the ones to send their children to classes. While other kids were busy being tutored, swimming at the community center, or sent to a studio for art: I was the one at home staring at the television or playing with my cars as my only source of entertainment. Eventually, I grew tired and would do whatever was available to me, I would pick up pen and paper and I'd draw: and before I knew it, I became obsessed. Every flat surface became a victim of my addiction. Even my bedroom ceiling had drawings taped to it. Gradually, a minuscule spark of passion for art was lit inside of me.
“For many children, interest in a particular art form leads to sustained attention when practicing that art form. Moreover, engaging in art often involves resolving conflicts among competing possible responses, such as when choosing the correct note to
When I was in fourth grade, I had already become an avid Internet user. In between visits to a variety of video game websites, I stumbled upon a particular section of Youtube: the art category. The users would post sped up videos of them drawing wide eyed girls with exaggerated bangs in MSPaint and create ten second animations using Windows Movie Maker. Needless to say, I was hooked. While their art wasn’t revolutionary, still, I watched in awe. Even though I was aware of the talent of the greats like Da Vinci and Van Gogh, there was a certain disconnect between them and myself that didn’t inspire me at the time. However, young girls, like myself, building an audience through their art was something chimerical, and seemed just obtainable enough to inspire me to pursue art. So, I downloaded GIMP, Paint Tool Sai, Photoshop, and a myriad of other drawing programs and persisted to draw digitally, despite only using a measly mouse as my tool of choice.
