The community that I am currently living in is not the best it's run down and over populated with people who have drug addictions or are homeless. Not many people try to help these people simply because they believe they're in a higher class. What have i done for the community? What I have done is help who ever wants help. Whether it's sharing whatever money I have so they can buy something to talking to them and encouraging them to keep moving forward. I have learned talking to people and encouraging them can go a long way. I have helped many friends from saying no to the temptations of drugs and suicide. I have also helped the community in other ways. I have done this by helping keep the city clean and helping younger students
I do many severces to my community. I give money and support PETA against animal cruelty. I donate to many organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and St.Jude's
While volunteering at Discovery Challenger I have exclusively worked with a blind man named Geno. My service to the Discovery Challenger Program has positively affected the community in that the athletes that required a helper were able to have me as one despite the limited number of volunteers who helped the athletes. Another community service I committed myself to while in high school was the club Life is Delicious. Life is Delicious is a club that between two and three times Year members of the club cook a warm meal at the high school, and then some go to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter in Waterbury. At the end of my sophomore year I was named Co-President of the club. As a member of the club I went to all of the cooking and serving activities and was able to help the homeless of Waterbury by giving them a warm meal. The most impactful service I performed in my opinion was during my junior year when I was the organizer for the Penguin Plunge. During my junior year I thought that it would be a good idea for the basketball team to do the Penguin Plunge in order to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut as I had done so in the previous two years. So, I approached the athletic director
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
As a second year National Honor Society student, the last couple of years I have been more focused on ways I can help my community to help get all my service hours in for the end of my high school NHS career. I’ve always loved doing little things to help someone who needs it but I never thought about the things that I do everyday count just as much as the other things. Community service to me, is more than just holding the door open for someone, picking up trash, or helping someone with their groceries. I want to help people grow and be a better person while serving my community. I want to do more than volunteer, I want to impact the lives of people and I feel that is what I have done.
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
From the time I was a young girl, my parents always stressed the importance of volunteering. My mom would go with us to volunteer at church every year when our church invited homeless people to stay for the week; we would help serve food and drinks. My mom and dad would also take my siblings and me out to buy toys so we could donate them to Toys for Tots. Every winter we would go to my dad’s work to volunteer. He worked for the Ferndale, MI fire department and every year they would buy and donate clothes and toys to needy families around the holidays. Volunteering with my family helped me discover my passion for helping others.
One way I have helped my community is by volunteering for FOCCAS. What I did while volunteering was fostering animals. I can say I have hand raised and bottle fed five litters of kittens and I also nursed many animals back to health. The hardest part about fostering was trying to not get attached. Being I’m only human, and I got attached. The hardest animal to give back was this small puppy. When we got him, they thought he might lose his eyes. I nursed him back to health he even slept in my bed. We had him for over a month and during that time he became like my baby. So when it came for him to go to his new home it was extremely difficult to give him back. Taking care of these animals was a challenging and time consuming job. Fostering was
As an aspiring 16-year-old living in the 21st century, it is important to expose young minds to the real-world and edify the importance of involvement in the community. There are numerous reasons why it is important for youth to be involved in the City Government and our community. Furthermore, it is important for young people to become more involved in our community so we will be able to sustain a perfect society for the city.
Giving back to my community have always been an oath to me, it provides satisfaction that I can make a difference no matter how young I am. Each person should leave the world a little better than how they found it because it takes a leader to influence others. Leadership is a moral grit that I posses not only does it starts a movement or an activism but it can save others in an unbelievable way. In my community, one act of kindness leads to a ripple effect that can touch anybody to a fellow classmate who is going through depression to the people in the nursing home who values my company. In each community project I’ve been involved in, I do not wish to be recognized but rather influence others by the difference I had made. I once spoke to
I want to thank everyone who has signed up to volunteer for this weekend’s event, Fiddlers’ Fair!
The people in my community try, they try to be and do good. We have many programs dedicated to bettering the east side. East side Promise Neighborhood is a program that helped bring a farmers market to our food desert. It also helps rebuild infrastructure and hope on the east side. One of our college advisors has his own institute where he promotes tier one colleges and gets students in contact with those schools. Project Stay is a program that gives free help with the FAFSA. Our Alumni bring their businesses to help our school
One way I help my community is by doing social services in my school. A social service is when a person or a student helps elders and teachers. The types of jobs I do are grading other peoples work, taking paperwork to other classrooms, and my number 1 favorite job is helping other students learn and teach them about things they don't
Growing up as a Vietnamese-American, my family emphasized the Confucian values of familial and communal support. This, coupled with the suburban setting I grew up in, instilled in me the value of community service. I desire to use my skills and knowledge to help those around me. As a physician, I plan to use my medical training to service my community, practicing within it as well as serving as a volunteer to treat underprivileged individuals.
While in high school, I have been able to give back to my community through my
I contributed to this community in many ways. When I first started to volunteer here I was suppose to volunteer with a lady named Charline. Unfortunately, when I went in the second day I was informed that she had quit. After that I was left with no volunteer work until Stephanie the volunteer coordinator found work for me to do in the Health Services and Social services departments. I them started to volunteer with Leslie the health service department coordinator. I was able to perform assessments with the residents in the assisted living section. I performed pain assessments and SLUMS tests. A SLUMS test is a test that is done to check for dementia or cognitive impairments. While doing those assistments I learned how to apply what I learned in some of my health services classes. I also was able to talk to the
