There are people that we meet on the streets that are praying for better times and seek a helping hand from fellow citizens like us just, so they can get food so they won’t starve to death. In high hopes of obtaining a roof over their heads again that they lost from the state that provides a high income to make a decent living. They are struggling to have clothes on their back, just to keep warm. These are our homeless people of Florida in a long-term battle with the state government. Today we want to address the problem that is failed to be spoken about and constantly ignored. Our state claims that they don’t want to see our own people on the streets, but don’t even have the audacity to make time or an effort to resolve the matter. The same people that we know who as well are complaining about them having difficulties from whether they are sick or unfortunately veterans aren’t trying to bring the conversation to the table. The state government of Florida should allocate enough money to those suffering in poverty because there are too many houses empty for so many of our own citizens to be shelterless, wages aren’t sufficient to maintain a decent living standard, the inflation on necessities and utilities have gone up to the point where it’s hard to pay, and the amount of compensation given to those that are unemployed doesn’t aid in any way for a car or mortgage payment. Homes were built in particularly for people to live in not for banks to foreclose them and not have anyone staying there for a few years. Homelessness is an international problem that every society suffers from. As a matter of fact, there are between 750,000 and 1.3 million people that are homeless in America. Although we have wealthy people that rather have empty buildings falling apart, they don’t consider doing anything to help with the less fortunate. Not to mention that most of the homeless people are sick human beings that are fighting a disease, while trying to find food and somewhere to sleep at night, with the fear that they might not wake up the following day. The better question is what is the government going to do about it? What happened to the taxes you took from the people every month, every day? The government should
In America’s finest city, vivid thoughts of beaches, sunshine, and excitement all come to mind. Pictures that do not come to mind are the streets that are lined with tents, trash bags full of clothes, old sleeping bags, and items that have value to the owner. All across America, homelessness perpetuates to expand and worsen. Homelessness has been a growing issue these past few years in San Diego and residents are finally speaking out about it. This is a concern that requires to be taken care in one way or another. Components of homelessness include lack of shelter, food, and medical care. One’s who suffer from homelessness are all different ages, races, and have a unique story of their own. It is time for the city of San Diego to find a solution to this matter of contention and pursue to put an end to homelessness.
Three thousand, and eight hundred men, women, and children sleep on the cold streets of Portland Oregon. Homelessness has gone down 17% happily but went up another 10% the next year.
In the United States, homeless people have become a problem phase, as many people view the homeless as a menace to our society. The New Orleans Mission, Volunteers of America, and Ozanam Inn are non-profit organizations that provide services to people who are homeless. The group of people that are included in the category of homeless people includes veterans, people who are mentally ill, families who have lost their job, single parents, or runaway children. The New Orleans Mission, Volunteers of America, and Ozanam Inn are working to address issues of homelessness through cooperations and education.
47,725 or about 8% of the homeless population are veterans and 50% of the homeless people are over 50 years old in the U.S. Homelessness is an unsatisfactory issue that we as humans do not see the importance of the help they need. In our community, we take things for granted and not worry about the importance of helping others. The unfortunate people living in the streets have passed through difficult times and appreciate small or big things. Homeless is a person without a home, and therefore typically living on the streets. Some homeless people have become abusive of drugs, alcohol, and other different type of drugs. Homelessness is a major problem in our society. Homelessness contaminates our city, makes our city look dirty, and it is priority to fix this problem.
Homelessness is an aspect of society, which most people chose not to acknowledge. With the increasing amount of issues the United States faces, homelessness tends to be forgotten when the time comes for the government to establish what issues they should assist. Due to the substantial amount of issues the government concerns itself with, homelessness does not receive the necessary attention required and is improperly handled. In today’s society poverty-stricken individuals or families is too much of a common occurrence to be treated as lightly as it is. Additional government intervention is necessary in order to supply the needed resources, which can prevent the further spread of homelessness. The United States government is obligated to protect its citizens and should care about the constant growth of homelessness. Through economic policies and community advertisements, the government can control the issue of individuals who are facing poverty.
What do you think Homelessness/Poverty is? Why is the circumstances like? And how can we get out of Poverty? In today’s society Homelessness is simply defined as the absence of a place to live. So now that we know what is Homelessness we can think of many things such as houses, finance and the current environment. Approximately, 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness each year. The number of homelessness people, and the length of time they spend homeless, continues to rise. You can be wondering why do people come in Homelessness but the thinking realistic Homelessness is not a choice; anyone can become homeless. Although the root cause is Poverty, underlying issues include; poor physical or mental health, violence or abuse in the home, lack of employment or income, and a shortage of affordable housing. We as human beings can only help them and support; I have seen some people who don’t even value the people living on the street and asking for food or money. Toronto is the capital of Canada, and in Toronto we will see a lot of people who are in this situation. In the past 25 years, there has been a 450% increase in the number of youth shelter beds in Toronto. Living in a Poverty is no fun, it feels like you're living in a jail. I feel bad for those who don’t even have shelters or clothes to put on. I will share an example of mine; when I went to Toronto I seen a man sitting on the ground with dirty and ripped clothes on and he had a bowl asking people to give him money. So there are people who are really in this situation and some pretending to be. But in my point of view, So I would just say don’t just think about yourself but think about others who are suffering.
Astonishingly, 564,708 people are currently homeless in the United States, according to Social Solutions (Social Solutions, 2016). The topic, “Living Poor,” has only become much more apparent in the news and in everyday life. Two essays, On Compassion by Barbara Lazear Ascher and On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, can be evaluated as discussing two different aspects of the homeless situation in America. After close reading, On Compassion more effectively achieves its purpose of defining compassion than On Dumpster Diving, which describes the wasteful nature of mankind.
People who are suffering from mental illness are more likely to become homeless than a mentally able person. Mental illness affects more than half of homeless adults, as reported by the 2010 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress. (Donovan, 27) Because of their homelessness, they are often not able to get the care and medicine that they need. People, regardless of socioeconomic status, should have good healthcare readily available to them. In the US Declaration of Independence, it states that every citizen has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, homeless citizens are being robbed of their right to life when they are unable to access healthcare, and be treated for their illnesses.
The cost of homelessness is quite high, and the federal government does very little to put funding into lowering the number of homeless we have
Imagine waking up from a warm bed, taking a shower, getting dressed, either went to work, school, or both. These are all basic needs, basic needs that many people in the United States today do not have. Most people would agree that a day like this is fairly ordinary. Shelter, clothes, food, education, and family are all things that are usually taken for granted and things that every person deserves. Unfortunately, these things do not belong to everyone. Far too many people in this country have no homes. They own only the clothes that they wear. They do not know where their next meal will come from and they don't have family or friends to lean on for support. The government should supply resources for the homeless like free education/ job training,
In the year 2020 the issue of the Homeless had become intolerable. An approximation of the annual number of homeless in america was between 80 million and 100 million people, with fifty percent being “chronic homeless”. It was costing more and more for their medical expenses, social services, and for the criminal justice system. Worst of all, all of these cost came out of our taxes! They were going to bankrupt all the middle class, and possibly drop the annual income of the millionaires by a few thousand dollars. The prisons were filling up with all these dirty, jobless vagrants. Taking all the cells away from real criminals. Prisons started having no choice but to release convicted felons early. Drug rates in cities were constantly rising, and with that came higher crime rates. It was becoming clear that the homeless were now the only people doing drugs or killing people. If we the people didn't do something soon our country would become as bad as Canada, or (God help us) France. Something needed to be done, so the government stepped in. Just like the perfect decision of the “Patriot Act” our government took this one into their own hands and decided that the
Most people in our society don’t seem to understand homelessness, which includes our politicians. What were you thinking Mr. Reagan when you decided to pass the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act and make massive cuts to affordable housing programs and social services? A question I can never ask because you are no longer around, but even if you were I doubt you would take any accountability for playing a part in our chronic homelessness issue. Today, according to Mother Jones, 1 in 200 people in San Francisco sleep on the street and among the nations urban cities, San Francisco has the highest per capita rate of unsheltered
Throughout New York or even the United States, there are many people who are homeless and without jobs to help them survive. Many mothers and fathers are struggling to keep their homes while others are already out in New York streets trying to seek help. Those who are already on the streets are seeking charity from others as the walk by them. And to stop this from ever happening there should be more shelters, jobs, and help/supporters.
Homelessness is something that is very real in today society and people do not realize how important it is. Can you imagine how it feels not having your basic needs meet on a daily basis? Having No food, no bed, no place to take a shower, is everyday life for a homeless person. These things that we do every day and take for granted, these people pray to have them. Too many of our brothers and sisters do not have homes. Homelessness is a major problem in our country today, but there is not enough being done about it. We, as a nation, have an obligation to help these people. Why? Because Homelessness is not just a personal problem, it is a community issue that affects us all.
People believe that there is enough already being done for the homeless because they have access to things such as overnight sleeping arrangements, warming centers, and soup kitchens (which is all free of cost to them). It can be also said that some people are homeless because of addictions, past experiences (committing crimes), and chronic homelessness. It is understandable why some people believe there should be nothing done to help the homeless because they already have things in place to help them. However, not every person became homeless because of an addiction, past experiences, or chronic homelessness. Most people are homeless from, “their family’s ongoing financial struggles…. violence within their family of origin as a tipping point that initiated their housing instability” (Gültekin et. al, 2016, p. 405). Reasons like these are why most people are homeless. Things that people cannot control like natural disasters or the stock market. People who are in poverty who are put into these type of situations have nowhere else to go except for the streets. If there were better social security programs in Detroit, then people who are suddenly thrust into homelessness can find a ray of hope and find a home again. In addition to this, there is clearly not enough being done for the homeless because if there was then this would not be a current social issue. With about 14, 000
