Persuasive Essay Against Fantasy Sports

Many people argue that competitive sports raise numerous amounts of pressure on the youth making them distracted from things such as their education and because it can cause severe injuries, but some people argue that youth should play competitive sports because it teaches major life lessons that can help with many different aspects of their future such as college, getting a job, and many more. Playing competitive sports also improves your physical strength, another physical aspect of playing competitive sports is decreasing your chance of being obese or having disease. If you don't prefer to play competitive sports there are alternative options such as biking or walking to school. In an HT Health article “Sports Seen As Key Weapon in Fighting Teen Obesity” it says that in a study with 1,700 kids, ten percent walked or biked to school 3 ½ days a week,, in the study they found that biking or walking to school lowered the risk of being obese by 33%. I argue that kids should play competitive sports because of the important life skills taught through these sports and the physical benefit of playing sports. In this paper I will explain how communication, time management, and lowering the risk of being obese; supports my claim, “Kids should play competitive sports”

America’s baseball diamonds, soccer fields, hockey rinks, and basketball courts have never been so busy with children. The number of kids involved in an organized sport is not what is so groundbreaking. It’s the way in which children are playing or how their parents are arranging for them to play that may be cause for concern (Ferguson). Much controversy surrounds youth sports with the biggest disagreements coming over parental involvement and the intensity of play. Although there are many benefits for team participation, there is a growing fear that the negatives are starting to outweigh the positives.

The answer is the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act or PASPA for short. This law enacted in 1992, prevented any state to sponsor,promote,license,or authorize by law the wagering on sports. Some states got around the act and were allowed to continue sports betting, those being Nevada,Oregon,Montana, and Delaware. The latter three had already legalized sports betting and were not forced to discontinue such. Nevada, has legalized any and all types of gambling, sports included. New Jersey actually had a chance to join these states in sports gambling. A clause in PASPA allowed for any state who had commercial gambling to legalize sports as long as they met the following criteria: To have had commercial gambling for at least ten years and to also legalize sports gambling within the first year of PASPA’s lifecycle. New Jersey was the only state to qualify and yet they could not pass sports betting in that year of 1993.

It’s a dark time of year for many fantasy football players. Some of you ladies may have noticed a terrible change in your husband in the past couple weeks.

A year ago, my cousins began a “family” fantasy football league. I believe that High school football should be limited. Kids could get very sincere results from the concussions and the effects from playing football that could change their lives. Doctors say head concussions for younger kids are worse and more damaging because their brains are not fully grown and that means they can’t fully heal yet and younger kids younger kids have weaker neck muscles so their necks might break trying to brace for impact of another person while tackling for the ball or their heads smashing back into their helmets while going against someone (blocking someone).

Nash Weitzman lost almost $500,000 by betting continuously on fantasy football. On websites like Fanduel and Draftkings, People can join one week leagues to earn money by drafting teams and betting money. If the team that these people draft win, then the person receives money. Should it be legal to bet on this? Forbes.com says that “Playing fantasy football for money is very likely illegal.” In some states, it is illegal to gamble, but not illegal to bet on fantasy football websites. There is also an argument on why betting on fantasy football should stay legal.

To make things easier, all illusion games are fundamentally the same, real number athletes and their real-living performances are used to generate full head for fantasy teams in fantasy conferences. Gambling also has a storied history in the United States as well with Jamestown, first British American settlement, financed with lotteries in 1687. They now both appear in the sports news feed, as there is a question to whether fantasy sports leagues are a form of gambling and is it legal. Fantasy sports leagues are a form of gambling and there need to be restrictions because the risk outweighs the reward for people.

Although the federal government does not consider the activities of fantasy sports betting as gambling, 11 states currently deem it illegal and 20 more states are currently evaluating the legality of daily fantasy betting. The significance of this case stems from the fact that New York state is the largest market for both FanDuel and DraftKings. With 600,000 customers in the state and $200 million in entry fees last year alone, both daily fantasy companies are extremely vested in winning this case and have appealed the injunction. Daily fantasy sports companies argue that the attorney general hasn’t properly evaluated the assertion that fantasy betting requires a material degree of skill rather than luck.

Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it’s not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.

American high schools are bound to have plenty of sports for all students to play. So why not pick a sport to play in high school? The reader will learn the many reasons why playing sports is a vital part in a student's life. Highschool sports will allow students to become better educated and get higher grades. By playing sports, students will be able to make more friends and enjoy school more. Lastly, if students were to be able to get a sports scholarship for college, their parents will only have to pay little to no money. High school sports are good for students because they can get a better education, make more friends, and have a better chance at getting into a good college.

Organized youth sports are extremely popular among youth and their families, with approximately 45 million children and adolescent participating in the US. There are many characteristics children can develop while playing youth sports such as confidence, self-esteem, leadership, respect, independence, assertiveness, and conflict resolution. Competition can help kids learn more, improve faster and reach a higher level of excellence than they would be able to without the ongoing challenge. Competitive sports can help keep kids active and health as they grow, and other distractions increase that may lead to an unhealthy lifestyle.
