The issue that will be discussed in this paper is abortion. If abortion was achieved today, social change would mean that there would be equality for women to have access to abortion. Women would now be able to decide whether or not they want to follow the procedure of abortion or not without having so much pressure of what society thinks and with the laws allowing any type of abortion to be legal whether they need it in the 2nd or 3rd trimester as well. According to Gerald N. Rosenberg, the history of the issue of abortion was that if the court wanted to be a part of prohibiting women to abortion, then the state would have to have a “compelling” interest. Two of the most important cases that have played a huge role in the fundamental rights of women to choose whether or not they want to terminate their pregnancy were both Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. Both of these cases together declared that, “the personal right of privacy includes the abortion decision” (Rossum and Tarr, 20017, p. 738). The Supreme Court held that the laws of both cases Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton were unconstitutional, because it violated the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment (Rosenberg, 2008, p. 175). Texas laws prohibited abortion unless it was for “the purpose of saving the life of the mother”, whereas laws in Georgia said that they would prohibit abortion unless “pregnancy would endanger the life of the mother” (Rosenberg, 2008, p. 175). The state made great efforts to make
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
Though the Supreme Court voted pro-choice in the 1973 court case of Roe v. Wade, abortion still remains a hot topic among the American population and political parties. The case was based on an argument on the 14th amendment: right to privacy, that made it the woman's decision to have an abortion. This amendment, however does not protect the liberty and privacy of the fetus, meaning, the child does not receive his or her inalienable rights until after birth. Ever since Roe v. Wade was enabled, there has been a strict division within the United States between the pro-life, and pro-choice believers. The idea of pro-choice negates the 5th amendment rights to life and liberty. What does it say about the right to kill in the constitution? Nothing. Surgically aborting an unborn child is unethical, cruel, selfish, and most importantly, it's murder.
“In her own case, Ms. Brenneman said she was a 21-year-old junior at Harvard when her birth control failed and she had an abortion. ‘It allowed me to choose when to become a mother,’ she said. ‘As a mother now, I know I was correct at 21… I didn’t have a college degree… I didn’t have an income. I didn’t have a marriage. I didn’t have anything a child needs. And I didn’t want it” (Liptak, 2016). Brenneman, among the 24% of women who will undergo an abortion during their lifetime by the age of 45, chose the best decision for herself at that specific instance in her life, described in the personal testimony above (Jones, 2014, p. e1). The recent attacks on women’s reproductive rights by the Republican Party, although grounded in “protecting
The vast majority of people in the United States support the rights of woman and men alike. This right makes them free to pursue dreams of happiness and freedom, to do as they choose as long as it does not infringe on the rights of other “humans.” That is honestly the root of the issue with abortion in this country; we firmly believe in the rights of humans, but we treat a fetus as if it was none human. Science has proven through deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that an unborn baby is indeed human, so if it is human then the only remaining question would be, “When is the fetus alive?” To find the answer, one must first start with the end in mind. This proposal will do just that, start at the end to explain the beginning and through a small amount of compromise, the abortion controversy will be solved with a common sense and responsible approach.
Currently in the United States, abortion among many other topics is controversial and causes an uproaring due to the many divergent opinions. The argument behind abortion in America is that when a woman goes and follows through with the procedure, it is viewed as murder in the eyes of many. Religious groups tend to lean towards anti-abortion, and see abortion as a ‘sin’ due to their beliefs, which causes unavoidable debates.
Abortion a very touchy subject that can spark debate, whether for or against. But what is abortions and why does it cause so much controversy? “An abortion is a medical or surgical procedure that deliberately ends a pregnancy before an embryo or fetus is born” (“Abortion”1)
Abortion is when a mom decides to end pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can live outside the uterus in the real world. In some ways, there are accurate reasons why mothers decide to have an abortion. The most common reason why mothers decide to have an abortion is because they are not financially stable or not emotionally ready to have a child.
Abortion is one of the many topics that everyone has an opinion on. An abortion is “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus” (Merriam-webster). Abortion has always been and most likely always be a controversial topic that not everyone will agree on. Throughout the argument, two groups have emerged; pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice supporters believe that women should be able to do what they want with their body no matter the circumstance. While pro-life supporters claim that life begins at conception, so an abortion at any stage of the pregnancy is considered murder. There are two types of abortions, in-clinic abortions and the abortion pill. There are a few types of in-clinic abortions such as; vacuum aspiration which happens during your first trimester, dilation and evacuation (D&E) which is during your second trimester, and dilation and extraction (D&X) if you are further along than that. However, dilation and extraction is now illegal in the United States as by the third trimester, the fetus is nearly fully developed, including its sense of pain, so this procedure is considered cruel and unusual. Abortions have been around for thousands of years, however in the 1800s abortions were illegal in the US due to the dangerous procedures and surgeries. It wasn’t until 1973 that the Supreme court granted women the right to an abortion, and abortions became legal in the United States. Ever since abortion got legalized, many people have argued whether it should be legal or not, people are either pro-life or pro-choice. Personally I am pro-choice because I believe that it is the women's right to decide what she wants to do with her body.
In her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, Mother Teresa states: “The greatest destroyer of peace in the world today is the cry of the innocent unborn child… To me, the nations that have legalized abortion, they are the poorest nations” (Mother Teresa - Acceptance Speech). Abortion is one of the most controversial social justice issues facing the world today. A woman facing an unplanned pregnancy chooses to end the life of her preborn child by means of abortive pills or surgery. Several nations have legalized this depriving an unborn child of his or her right to life. These nations justify their decision by saying that a woman deserves to choose what she does with her body. Since it can cause serious health concerns for the mother, and pro-life alternatives exist, abortion should be illegal so as to not deprive anyone of their right to life.
Every woman believes in women rights, freedom of choice, and control over their own body but women are not able to determine if those rights include a second person. In our society including the women bashes people who believes in Abortions. In April 1992, the U.S. Supreme Court Case Planned Parenthood v. Casey threatened to strictly restrict women access to abortion. It than lead-up to a mass protest planned for Washington, D.C. that month. For years there has been a great debate if abortion should be legal or not. Abortion is defined as the deliberate termination of human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are many reasons why women get abortions such as rape, their finical stability, the pregnancy was a mistake or birth control failure. resulting in an unwanted pregnancy, the women could be on drugs which could result in the baby being born with a birth defect. Lastly a woman continuing with the pregnancy could suffer from mental or psychical problems that could endanger the women the women of the pregnancy. Society have many views on pregnancy. Many people are for it and many people are against it. Did you know that each year almost 1.2 million Americans women have abortions, in result each year there are many riots and protest because of the abortions? To many people abortion is murder but murder is not a moral principal that the people who are against abortion stand by. It’s hard to make a moral judgement about what one does especially if you do not have a moral standard you stand by. The best way to handle abortions in society is to allow every woman to be entitled to their own decision with their body when it comes their body, but everyone handles the topic abortion differently. Everyone have a different view on abortion and because of that there have been many violent acts.
Imagine a world cancer-free, where you do not have to see your loved ones suffer from an incurable disease. Any child has the potential to find a cure or to be a future President of the United States. However, if that child is killed before he or she gets the chance to live and fulfill all of their hopes and dreams, then the world may be without another extravagant human being. A woman has this magnificent ability to give birth to another human being, and it should be illegal for a woman to have an abortion because it is murder, she is taking away a human’s right to live, and an unborn child is in a significant amount of pain during the procedure that kills them.
Parental consent is currently required for a minor to receive an abortion because parents believe young adults are incapable of making such an important decision because they are not mature enough (Maradiegue 2). However, if a young adult is responsible enough to have safe sex, then they should be able to determine if they want an abortion. Parents do not have absolute veto over the young adults decision, but if the young adult wishes to go against their parent’s decision they must receive approval through a clear and convincing evidence, which allows the daughter to prove she is “mature or that the abortion is in her best interest prior to waiving the state’s parental involvement requirement” (“Parental Involvement”). A teenager should
Abortion is the removal of a fetus from the uterus before the fetus is mature enough to live on its own. It has been a very controversial topic for almost half a century. Should abortion be legalized? People all over the world have different opinions and is debated worldwide. Different states have different laws on abortion. Each year, more than 50 of all pregnancies are unintended and half of the unintended pregnancies end in abortion, which is 1.5 million each year. What makes abortion so sensitive is that, many people consider it as murder of innocent human life. Many people also think it’s completely up to the parents to decide whether they want the baby or not. I think by considering the stage of fetus and condition of mother they should decide whether to allow her to have abortion or not so that illegal activities can be minimized.
In this paper I will be arguing about the topic that the government is intervening too much with abortion and it is the woman 's choice. In my opinion, I think that it is the woman 's choice to have an abortion if she chooses. In addition to that I don 't believe that a woman should just keep having abortions over and over again because after the first time they should think of preventing it better with birth control or just not having intercourse. After the first abortion, I think that it should be slightly harder to get another one unless there is good reasoning such as rape or they wouldn 't be able to physically go through giving birth.
Do women have the right to choose what she does with her body? When it comes to pregnancy, some women feel as if they shouldn’t keep their baby. Many women face criticism when making the decision to abort their baby because some people don’t support women getting abortions. Although some people believe getting abortions are morally wrong, make a bad situation worse, and have many health risks, for some, getting an abortion is necessary because of lack of money, the age of the mother, how the child was conceived and the health of the mother.
