Breastfeeding has been frowned upon for years and recently, in 2017, it has blown up. More and more moms have come forward to state why breastfeeding in public isn’t something people should sexualize, and should be considered normal. The majority of the population, think that mothers should only breastfeed at home. People think it’s inappropriate, and not suitable for young children to see. When mothers breastfeed, it is solely for the baby and it’s need for food. Ever since 2010, the “Break time for nursing mothers” law has helped make breastfeeding and working possible for mothers. With this law, it ensures that breastfeeding mothers a break, and a place for employees who gets paid hourly to pump during the work day. But even with this law, mothers who pump or breastfeed during the work day, or just in public, are harassed for doing so. I personally think that if the child is hungry, the mother should have the opportunity to feed it, wherever and whenever she pleases. Newborns are cranky when they are tired, need to change, hungry or even if they are uncomfortable. When babies get hungry, they want food as soon as possible. When mothers breastfeed, their goal is to feed their baby and fulfill their needs. There have been articles about breastfeeding, and there are models that pose while breastfeeding. This causes an uproar, and it angers people. But when you see a victoria secret model, with the same amount of cleavage showing, no one says anything about it. People are
As I indicated earlier, women have been victimized for breastfeeding in public places. They have, therefore, been forced to resort to an alternative way of feeding their infants because the public would not have it. It has become harder for women to breastfeed although history has shown it that is something that has been practiced for a long time. On one hand, women want to be allowed to breastfeed whenever the child is hungry no matter the place; whereas, the public is not very accepting of this public display of care and affection between mother and infant. The medical community has indicated that it is important to breastfeed while the public wants the women not to do it where they can see it. They argue that exposing of the breasts is
Women in this world have a right to bear children and take care of them. As a new parent, there are millions of questions, worries, and decisions one deals with throughout the whole child's life. When a child is first born, a mother has to decide whether or not to breastfeed or formula feed. The nutrition a baby receives in the first months of life is what determines if the baby has a good or bad start. Women should breastfeed their children because breastfeeding boosts chances of success for their child, allows their baby to receive natural immunity from antibodies, mothers are less likely to develop diseases such as cancers or diabetes, and breastfeeding stimulates oxytocin to promote bonding between mother and child. Breastfeeding is the best choice for a baby.
Breast-feeding was introduced in the 1800s as an alternative to avoid deadly illnesses that were travelling from Spain, Middle East and Asia. In the 1860s scientists began supplementing animals’ milk as formula; especially for mothers who were not able to breast-feed. By the twentieth century, the United States “experienced a sharp decline in breast-feeding rates for infants and toddlers” (Lerner, 2006, p. 362). The reason for decreasing rates in breast-feeding were due to breast-feeding was seen as public indecency, mothers were headed back to work, and mothers were not encourage to breast-feed their child because some people saw it embarrassing. Due to not enforcing laws that were established for breastfeeding mothers; mothers are not comfortable to breast-feed in public from indecency exposure law, allowed flexibility to feed infant during work hours and also protecting a mother’s well-being to breast-feeding in public without embarrassment.
This is Eromosele, I love Grand Canyon University.Breastfeeding decision should be addressed prenatally to give more time for the mother to make decision before the baby is born. The nurse and the doctors should found out her preference first because most women make up their mind during pregnancy and if they receive proper education from the doctor and nurse, followed by attending breastfeeding classes, they would make the best decision and prepared for it before delivery. To address the postpartum mother reluctancy on adequate nutrition for a newborn, she should not be judged nor forced into formula or breastfeeding, rather, respect her decision, found out why she does not want to breastfeed, any concern should be addressed appropriately.
“Breast feeding rates in developed countries such as the UK, Australia and the US are typically lower than World Health Organisation goals” Parkinson (2010) 3. From a study carried out by Queensland university stressed the importance of not only the delivery of literature on how effective breastfeeding is for your babies health but that what was also needed to increase the number of breast feeders was to give personal support and explains social and environmental benefits also. When they looked at the UK in particular, Parkinson (2010) 3 stated “women already understood that breastfeeding was good for their baby, and what they needed were the tools to help them to breastfeed longer. From this it is clear that although effective and sufficient information around the benefits of the child is being addressed, there is no sufficient information or skills being given direct to the parents in order for them to carry this out for any length of time. Another piece of research was carried out in 2010 on ways to change the paradigm of breastfeeding, from encouraging promotion of breast feeding within the employment setting.
Women carry a child inside of their body for 9 straight months. Why should we take away the right for them to feed their child publicly? Yes, nudity in a public space is illegal, but not feeding your child is, too. Women across the country are enraged about people saying they feel uncomfortable about it. Who would want to feed their child in a bathroom stall? Breastfeeding is beneficial to mother and child, it's ideal for the child's health, and it's cost effective and environmentally
Breastfeeding is a healthy, natural ability of every woman, and should therefore be socially acceptable and supported by everyone. For some reason this is not the case in our society, in fact breastfeeding continues to be a controversial issue that must be addressed by women’s rights activist groups. Breastfeeding is a feminist issue because the natural act has been medicalized and devalued by major companies because of their interests in profits in bottle feeding. According to Penny Van Esterik a coordinator in the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), women should never have to choose between their duties as a mother and their duties as a responsible, hard working employee. Our society pressures, exploits and oppresses women
Breast feeding in public is a very controversial subject. Many people feel very strongly about their opinion. This is one of those recurring social debates and issues that seems to pop up quite frequently in one form or another. Is it acceptable to breastfeed in public? There are no laws against it in most states, but is it acceptable or seem presentable to do that in front of one who doesn’t want to see? It is hard to say who is right and who is wrong, when each person has a different view on life, religion and morals.
Imagine sitting on a bench at the park enjoying some ice cream. Then out of nowhere, the high pitched wail of a baby is heard. It could be the baby’s diaper or the fact that he is hungry, but since breastfeeding is not permitted, the baby will not stop crying until he is fed. The mother is frantically trying to calm her baby down by rocking him, but he keeps crying. At this point, not even an artificial formula works; he wants his mom’s milk but the mother does not know what to do since she cannot breastfeed and her baby will not be satisfied now. If breastfeeding was allowed in public, this problem would not be so common. Breastfeeding should be allowed in public because it is something normal and human. Nobody should have a problem with this since there would definitely be less disruption and frustration of mothers in public places if they were able to feed their babies.
Breastfeeding is a form of a mother feeding her child from her breasts. When women decide to breastfeed their children in public they tend to be looked at with disgust. When their only intentions are to give their infants food and nutrients. Sadly many view it to be inappropriate and considered sexual for a woman's breast to be about of their shirt to feed their child. Women should be allowed to breastfeed in public no matter what anyone else says.
It seems like every other day there is a new scandal involving a mother breastfeeding in public. When did breastfeeding become so controversial? This is the purpose of female breasts; besides, it is economical, and conveniently there on demand. Experts agree, the benefits of breastfeeding are overwhelmingly evident; but Americans have sexualized breasts to such an extent that something as natural as breastfeeding an infant has been misconstrued into a lewd act. Since much of a mothers decision on whether they will breastfeed or not is based on public perception; therefore, breastfeeding in public should be promoted and encouraged for the well being mothers and
Breastfeeding is a complete natural way nourishing a baby from infant to toddler. Breastfeeding was completely normal until the 1950s when formula was introduced. People around the world have different opinions on breastfeeding in public (Hannan, Benton-Davis, & Grummer-Strawn, 284). There are many people who prefer a nursing mother to hide in the bathroom or sit in her car while nursing, rather feeding her baby when he or she may get hungry, It is not always convenient for a mother to hide when she has a hungry, fussy baby in her arms. They feel breastfeeding is not meant to be done in public. However, breastfeeding is not illegal and should not be portrayed in a manner of indecency or exposure.
There are only two states that placed limitations on the way public breastfeeding can be done. Even though there are no laws forbidding women from breastfeeding in public, if it’s done in a public restaurant the owner of the facility, can lawfully ask the woman to leave. If the woman refuses to leave the establishment she can be escorted out by the police and then placed under arrest for trespassing. Without, a law that can protect her, there can be a charge of indecent exposure. There are rarely any cases of this type of charge being enforced against a female. Empire News(http://empirenews.net/woman-arrested-for-breastfeeding-at-wal-mart/the) exhibits one of these rare cases. The New York Times stated “there about 12,000 women per year get arrested for breastfeeding in public in the United States. Another 30,000 women per year get arrested for being "topless" under various "indecency" laws across many states in the US”.
According to Tracey M. DiLascio, public breastfeeding has been a debate for many years now but wasn’t always considered indecent or sexual like it is today, she published this article July of 2016 and named it “Breastfeeding in public: Overview. Points of view: Breastfeeding in Public.”
Breastfeeding in public is one of the most controversial issues in society today. Breastfeeding has been around since before the 15th century. It is a bond shared between a mother and a child. Research shows that breastfeeding is the best choice over formula because breastfeeding provides the infant with essential nutrients, helps with recovery from childbirth, and protects the infant against a number of chronic conditions. Breastfeeding is abnormal, healthy, natural and need not be disguised, explained, or apologized. You should be able to breastfeed your baby wherever or whenever your child is hungry. Breastfeeding is not a choice it’s a responsibility. It may not be the right choice for some parents, but it’s the best choice for every baby.
