Climate change has been one of leading environmental policy issue in the past two decades. For that reason, it is imperative that Britain reduce their emissions to as little as possible. Naturally, the ability to do this comes from Parliament, who should do its utmost to come to a comprehensive strategy for the state. However, this effort cannot effectively gain the necessary momentum with the Conservative Party having conflicting views against combating climate change itself. The Conservative Party's backing of unsafe energy sources, dissolving of environmental departments, and the prioritization of utilizing the most cost-effective alternatives will cause greater destruction from climate change in the near and far future.
Supporting fracking and nuclear energy is of the most counter-intuitive actions Conservatives have taken against climate change. Both energies are incredibly cheap--but are also detrimental to the environment. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is the extraction of shale gas by pumping a mixture of water and sand into the shale in the earth. This practice has caused earthquakes, water pollution, and health risks (from the carcinogens released from the shale). Such health risks include lung disease, seizures, fainting, birth defects and miscarriages, anemia, and cancer. So while it may be cost-effective, the outcome would harm British citizens and the rest of the environment. Nuclear energy is the same way. Simply put, it is the utilization of the
I really appreciate all of the work you're doing spreading awareness about climate change while doing your own part to combat it. In this day and age, our work to change the course of our currently unsustainable civilization is more important than ever. That's why we must be very careful when discussing the changing climate and the repercussions that spring from it. Most conversations about climate change focus on the major problems that are going to occur in the future as a result of current human practices. Yet, it is evident that these changes are wreaking havoc in the present world that we all inhabit. That is why the narrative on climate change must change. Not only is climate change real, but it is impacting the earth in devastating ways at this very moment. Climate change should be treated as the atrocity of today, not the possible problem of the future.
Throughout the years climate change has been a controversial issue affecting individuals worldwide; climate change has been debated by scientists including the rest of the world. Many factors can affect climate change such as biological factors and human actions. The intricate details are what go unnoticed and unmanaged, people may be greatly against this claim. However, it is underlying factors, like landfills and driving cars, that help maintain the increasing temperature of the earth thus, climate change has become a controversial topic. There have been concerns that climate change does not exist but there is reliable proof that it does even if many scientists do not agree on the existence of climate change.
As Earths average temperature increases every year, the discussion of climate change has become a significant topic in the scientific community. Human activities such as powering factories, running automobiles or something as simple as burning wood for heat, emit dangerous greenhouse gases. What makes these greenhouse gases so detrimental is that they absorb the heat radiating off of Earth and keep it in the lower atmosphere creating a “blanket” of warmth around the Earth’s surface. This causes a drastic increase in the Earths average temperature. Due to the rise in temperature, the polar caps have been melting faster than ever, this is dangerous not only because of the risk of floods and sea level increase but ocean water will become less saline and ecosystems will be destroyed, impacting humans just as much as marine life. In the article, Understand faulty thinking to tackle climate change by George Marshall, Marshall states that most people in our world today do not care about climate change because it will not affect them, “Which points to the real problem: climate change is exceptionally amorphous, … no deadlines, no geographic location, no single cause or solution.” (Marshall 2014). Because the author makes it clear that climate change is indeed a great plight, and fails to be acknowledged by people, it is a significant matter that should be discussed
As said by Ban Ki-Moon, a former secretary-general of the United Nations, “Climate change does not respect border; it does not respect who you are - rich and poor, small and big. Therefore, this is what we call 'global challenges,' which require global solidarity” (Ki-Moon 2011). Recently, climate change has become one of the most emphasized topics in the world. While the idea of global warming is not new to anyone, its effects are starting to become more prevalent, and the issue is becoming increasingly dreadful. Global warming is often a debated topic in elections, as some people believe it is real and caused by people, some believe it is made up, and the rest believe it is happing but is simply part of Earth’s natural cycle. The issue also
Did you know that the United States is the second largest contributor of CO2, and the less concerned about it? Climate change has been a problem for decades, but just recently we start to see how big of a problem climate change is, and can be. Climate change is one of the biggest problems that we are facing right now, even if keep trying to act like is nothing. Everybody, the people, the government, and big companies are a big contributor of this phenomenon. The more we keep denying its effects, the more we are going to regret it later, and going to wish that we could go back and try to fix the issue. You going to know one day, and its going to be late. Climate change should be the U.S government main focus this decade and the ones to come. Climate change can affect a country in every way economically, destroyed …., cause a lot of deaths.
Climate change is pressing issue in the world for quite some time now. Early it was known more aggressively as global warming, but most recently it has been considered as climate change. But over the years there being many different perspectives and viewpoints on the issue. Some nations don’t even think about in their quest to become a developed nation. Certain Developed nations have taken great strides in preventing climate change. Other Developed nations are aware of what’s happening to the planet, but haven’t taken too many decisions in Preventing climate change. But why do different nations have different perspectives on climate change? Recently the United States have been weak on climate change to ensure jobs, but many are critical of Recent Presidents trump climate Change policy and Europe is leading the way combating climate change with Paris agreement.
Climate change is a very controversial topic that has been the heart of research for a lot of scientists for decades. In 2017 climate change is not only looked at by scientists, but by regular people on a daily basis. There has been so much research done to determine if climate change is even real, and how it impacts the whole world. There are more than a few factors that affect climate change. There are also a lot of things climate change It is also important to know the ways climate change is impacting the world. Climate change is mostly caused by human activity. Some impacts of climate change are the effects on animals and unprecedented weather patterns. There are people who do not believe in climate change. Overall climate change is a serious issue. Studying and researching climate change is also interesting. There is plenty of information out there to not only support climate change, but to figure out what can be done to solve it.
As the United States gears up for an intense hurricane season that will last through the year, an important issue surfaces: climate change and the role it plays. To some, including EPA chief Scott Pruitt, climate change is a very sensitive topic and it is not the time to discuss the role it plays in affecting the earth. During his time as the chief of the EPA, Pruitt has led for rollbacks on the regulations of greenhouse gases, which scientists have linked to rising temperatures. With Pruitt and other leaders wondering about climate change and how it is linked to storms, many scientists have the answer to their concerns. Michael Mann, a climatologist at Penn State, wants people to know that climate change is causing storms to grow larger and become more a threat. Mann says that “The science is now fairly clear that climate change will make strong storms stronger”, and he is not the only one to point this out. The nonprofit group Climate Central has pointed out the rising sea levels and ocean temperature increase of 1-3 degrees in the past century. While this heat increase seems small, CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller is quick to point out that “The ocean is warmer. And all of that really pushes the impact in one direction, and that is worse: higher surge in storms, higher rainfall in storms.”
Glaciers and arctic ice are melting. Oceans are growing increasingly acidic. Sea levels are rising. Droughts, floods, heatwaves, and downpours are becoming a regular occurrence. Climate change is not a hoax. The United States ranks second in the world regarding emissions of carbon dioxide. As more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere the Earth is gradually warming up. Even the slightest change in temperatures can make drastic changes in our climate. It is time to take action combatting climate change through lowering our use of fossil fuels, increasing our research development on geoengineering, and implementing a carbon tax.
Many would call this agreement an historic turning point. Whether it be positive or negative, people all over will have a different view on this accord. This deal is an agreement including all the world’s nations embarking on climate change. It is meant to rise global temperatures and speed up the process of doing so. Scientists have pointed out that this Paris Accord needs serious renovations and advancement in order to help stop very hazardous climate change. A key element here is to have the richer countries help the poorer countries by providing ‘climate finance’ in order to adopt to climate change and change to renewable energy. Each country had an individual plan tackling the greenhouse gas emissions. The U.S. also pledged $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund which is meant to help countries adapt and fight climate change. As you can see, Obama gave up $3 billion not even to our country, America, but he gave our money to other countries. America is not at its best, so for Obama to only be worried about all the other countries of the world is beyond me. Trump withdrawing this agreement sounds like a great thing to me and a lot of other residents. We should not be giving other countries money to help themselves when we are not even helped. As a president, you should be doing anything and everything you can for YOUR country. My position on this, is that I think America should be stable and at a good place before we start helping others. Since May 2017, of the 196
The world’s climate is rapidly changing as we know it, and the culprit is none other than climate change itself. Many are doubtful of the cause, and even more are extremely defense over the topic. One can only respect their bounds for they are not willing to truly grasp at the fact that humans are the true cause of climate change, because of 6 main greenhouse gasses. Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) (Kyoto Protocol). All of these gasses contribute the world wide pollution. If we are to face such a drastic situation as that millions will die at such a feat, and change how we use our spent resources to where it becomes possible threats need to be made. There need to be changes in our government, laws, and even peoples’ beliefs on how we effect our world. Such changes have been made but only to a point whit really falls on the lines of economics and policies. The United Nations (UN) has been trying to get everyone on the “Save earth bandwagon” known as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They have implemented 2 main objectives for this goal, The Kyoto Protocol, and The Paris Agreement.
Debate around the global climate change has reached a fever pitch in recent years. Though the storm has been swirling around for the past two decades, little more than talk and sweet nothings have pervaded discourse. Though certain political segments have taken the downside seriously, they have had difficulty mobilizing all fronts. The looming question: how to secure our energy future? Ideally, the gradual weaning off non-renewables and transitioning into clean, sustainable fuels would occur naturally. Citizens would notice climate effects and realize the importance of meeting long-term energy needs, making changes in their daily lives accordingly. This shift is not happening fast enough, though. So, the more important question regards speeding up the process. Policymakers should adhere to a three-point plan: subsidize clean energy and provide incentives for transition, impose a carbon tax, and work with international governments to diffuse the benefits of judicious climate policy. If implemented together, these policies will seriously abate climate effects in the United States, and provide substantial economic benefits. And if pitched properly in the international theater, the United States can lead by example and have worldwide consequences. Making these policies palatable across political sensibilities presents a deep challenge. Moreover, bogus opposition to the transition has been spouted through megaphones and recycled in public debates. A sensible response that digs
In our modern era, we have relied on the high government to address climate change. With our government at a constant stalemate, we must find alternative ways to combat the issues on a smaller, community-based scale. Through incorporating ideas from Mark Roseland’s book, Toward Sustainable Communities and other outside concepts, climate change must be addressed not only at a large international scale, but within neighborhoods.
Climate change is about the changes in global temperature over time, the climate patterns, and the causes and effects of climate change. As we all know, climate change has been one of the most important global issues in our world, and I believe the only way we could help with the temperature changing situation is if we all work together, by using our knowledge, our technologies, and our resources. This essay is about understanding climate change, and what we can do to stop it. In this paper, I will be analysing different perspectives on this issue, what Canada has done so far, and what I believe Canada should do in the future. To fully understand climate change, we must first look at the causes of this issue and how it is affecting our world.
Climate change also known as global warming, is the rise in the Earth's surface temperatures. Even though the rise in the Earth's surface temperature may be slight it can still have a wide range of effects on ecosystems, rising sea levels, severe weather events, and droughts. A staggering amount of scientist believe that climate change is caused mainly due to the human use of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are used, carbon dioxide is released along with other greenhouse gases into the air. Those gases trap the heat within the atmosphere. Some examples of ways humans use fossil fuels are oil, coal, and natural gas. Humans depend on theses fossil fuels to function everyday life. For example we use these fuels to heat our homes, run our vehicles, and are used in the power industry to produce electricity.
