Imagine your house burnt down.
Completely obliterating everything you love and own just because of a mistake you did not even notice you were making. Alison is a single mom who lives in Colorado and one mistake made her whole world literally burn down. Alison tells how harmlessly doing laundry caused her house fire; “I pulled my massage sheets out of the dryer and put them in a laundry basket, intending to fold them when I returned.” Upon returning to her house after work she was met with shock and her home’s windows unveiling menacing clouds of smoke. The family lost ninety percent of their belongings. Without her home Alison felt, “the unknown was so horrifying and unsettling and I just did not know what was ahead for me.”
Now imagine your whole world ‘burning down.’
Everyday we make mistakes that seem as miniscule as putting warm clothes in a laundry basket without thinking of the possible consequences on our environment. Just like a fire can ruin someone’s home climate change can leave everyone horrified about the future of the planet. If we continue making careless choices even small unintentional ones and disregard that climate change is present all together it is likely our own house will be in jeopardy.
It’s Happening
A multitude of scientists have concluded climate change is definitely present. Stephen Hawking believes global warming is becoming irreversible and the Earth could eventually resemble Venus with boiling Oceans and sulfuric rain if no action is taken
According to the National Assessment Synthesis Team the magnitude of global warming may become extreme as published in there “Climate Change Impacts on the United States”, the United States is expected to undergo rapid and extreme climate change during the twenty-first century if no actions are taken place to reduce the rising greenhouse gas emissions. The effects of these rapid changes which will likely strain the U.S. population with environmental, social, and economic disruptions. If humanity does not take action to stop this threat we will end up with a world that our future generations will not be able to enjoy as we did. In (“W2K: The Extreme Weather Era”) Gar Smith goes on to inform of us of the detrimental effects that global warming will have on us which include but not limited to floods, droughts, and powerful storms that have already begun to affects the world already, these events will be the catalyst for forced resettlement of population and the redesign of industries around the world due to changing weather patterns which will result in disrupted economies worldwide. In (“Pilgrim at Tinker Creek” by Annie Dillard) a flood occurs in which one of friends’ houses became water damaged she seems to be completely unaware of climate change or global warming as she does not even come to a thought that the cause of the flood could be
I really appreciate all of the work you're doing spreading awareness about climate change while doing your own part to combat it. In this day and age, our work to change the course of our currently unsustainable civilization is more important than ever. That's why we must be very careful when discussing the changing climate and the repercussions that spring from it. Most conversations about climate change focus on the major problems that are going to occur in the future as a result of current human practices. Yet, it is evident that these changes are wreaking havoc in the present world that we all inhabit. That is why the narrative on climate change must change. Not only is climate change real, but it is impacting the earth in devastating ways at this very moment. Climate change should be treated as the atrocity of today, not the possible problem of the future.
addressing climate change. Global climate change means it is a global problem, so one nation or
As Earths average temperature increases every year, the discussion of climate change has become a significant topic in the scientific community. Human activities such as powering factories, running automobiles or something as simple as burning wood for heat, emit dangerous greenhouse gases. What makes these greenhouse gases so detrimental is that they absorb the heat radiating off of Earth and keep it in the lower atmosphere creating a “blanket” of warmth around the Earth’s surface. This causes a drastic increase in the Earths average temperature. Due to the rise in temperature, the polar caps have been melting faster than ever, this is dangerous not only because of the risk of floods and sea level increase but ocean water will become less saline and ecosystems will be destroyed, impacting humans just as much as marine life. In the article, Understand faulty thinking to tackle climate change by George Marshall, Marshall states that most people in our world today do not care about climate change because it will not affect them, “Which points to the real problem: climate change is exceptionally amorphous, … no deadlines, no geographic location, no single cause or solution.” (Marshall 2014). Because the author makes it clear that climate change is indeed a great plight, and fails to be acknowledged by people, it is a significant matter that should be discussed
Climate change is a real problem facing our world with all of the progression of today’s society. The amount of Greenhouse Gas emissions has gone up drastically in the past one hundred years alone. The use of transportation, industry, electricity and the deprivation of the world's natural resources has increased the amount of Carbon Dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. The Environmental Protection Agency has shown an increase in the Earth's temperature by 0.8 degrees C in the past century alone. It is proven that humans are the cause of global warming but it is not too late to change how we are.
Climate change is something that affects us all as a human race, and we need to do something about it immediately. Ultimately, climate change is dangerous and upon us more than we realize. While there are some individuals who don't believe it exists at all, there are some who simply believe it is not caused by humans on this planet. My goal for this paper is to make aware the dangers that climate change poses to our planet and the human race. While doing this, I hope to provide fact-based evidence that supports the claim that we, as humans, cause the dangerous phenomena that is climate change and that we need to change our course of action before it is too late.
Climate change. It has been on all of our minds as more and more controversy and panic are induced by new data being collected all the time. The very thought of it as the truth begins to fade into the foreground is enough to make many people sick. As this problem begins to take political forefronts, the question is, what are we going to do about it? Fortunately, public opinion and political concern as it has in the past and still does, has motivated individuals and even entire nations to take action against the upcoming threat. However, not all individuals are open to the truth of the existence and significance of climate change.
Climate change has been gaining momentum for some time now and it has become popular enough to start mass debates. Climate scientists are pushing as hard as they can to spread awareness and it has become a topic of interest because of the way it can affect all of us. In this introduction of the book, Climate Change: What It Means For Us, Our Children, and Our Grandchildren, Joseph F. C. DiMento and Pamela Doughman try to convince the general public that understanding climate change is crucial and although climate change may seem challenging to grasp, it is understandable with some effort. As a hook, the authors begin with subclaims supporting the two main parts of the main claim, climate change is important to understand and it is understandable, to allow the reader to know what content will be shared by the book. The subclaims are supported effectively by evidences referring to factual data and alluding to popular culture relevant to the audience. Even the conflicting viewpoints are acknowledged and analyzed to show why the author's perspective is more logical.
Soon after the new year began, 2014 was officially declared the hottest year on record. Perhaps this data would not be enough to indicate a trend on its own, but it is reported that the ten hottest years on record have all occurred after 1997 (Gillis 2015). This trend is alarming to scientists, as it confirms that the Earth is in fact warming on a global scale. As climate change continues, there are various problems that the world’s nations are going to have to address. As previously mentioned, climate change is already causing extreme weather deviations. As the temperature continues to rise, there will be more intense and frequent droughts, floods, hurricanes, and heat waves (National Wildlife Federation). Soon enough, people are going to have to start combating these effects of climate change and looking for new ways to protect themselves from the weather at its worst. Not only will severe weather deviations put people in more danger, but so will the bad effects on our health. Lack of clean water, impaired foods, amplified heat exposure, and accelerated spread of blood-transmitted diseases are all plausible risks associated with global warming (Bowen, Ebi, Friel, and McMichael 2013). These inevitable magnitudes of global warming are the root of what makes climate change a social
climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It is undisputedly clear that human are partly responsible for global warming through deforestation burning fossil fuels and other changes we have caused to the land. There has not only been a significant increase in temperature across the globe but the seal level has rose 20cm in the past century alone. the (Intergovernmental panel of climate change, IPCC) has also tracked the “unprecedented recent rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases since the beginning of the industrial revolution.” It is alarming that the emissions of greenhouse gas continue to rise globally and it is deeply concerning that all countries, particularly developing countries, are vulnerable
As Bill Nye so aptly stated it, “Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think this is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.” Though there is much debate on the topic, climate change is a serious issue that needs the backing of powerful figures to help resolve it.
Despite the controversy that surrounds the existence of climate change, there is a high agreement among scientists that human-caused climate change in very real. Over the past two decades, surveys and studies have been done on climate change and the results have shown that the average global temperature has increased by about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The sea level is also rising and heat waves are happening more frequently than before. These events could lead to an abrupt and potentially irreversible climate change but scientists do not know the tipping point for such an event. Therefore, the sooner the inhabitants of earth begin to take action against climate change, the less likely something irreversible could happen.
Did you know that the United States is the second largest contributor of CO2, and the less concerned about it? Climate change has been a problem for decades, but just recently we start to see how big of a problem climate change is, and can be. Climate change is one of the biggest problems that we are facing right now, even if keep trying to act like is nothing. Everybody, the people, the government, and big companies are a big contributor of this phenomenon. The more we keep denying its effects, the more we are going to regret it later, and going to wish that we could go back and try to fix the issue. You going to know one day, and its going to be late. Climate change should be the U.S government main focus this decade and the ones to come. Climate change can affect a country in every way economically, destroyed …., cause a lot of deaths.
Climate change also known as global warming, is the rise in the Earth's surface temperatures. Even though the rise in the Earth's surface temperature may be slight it can still have a wide range of effects on ecosystems, rising sea levels, severe weather events, and droughts. A staggering amount of scientist believe that climate change is caused mainly due to the human use of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are used, carbon dioxide is released along with other greenhouse gases into the air. Those gases trap the heat within the atmosphere. Some examples of ways humans use fossil fuels are oil, coal, and natural gas. Humans depend on theses fossil fuels to function everyday life. For example we use these fuels to heat our homes, run our vehicles, and are used in the power industry to produce electricity.
“Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think it is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.” This quote from Bill Nye illustrates the serious nature of climate change. Climate change is the most serious issue that is plaguing the world. Global temperatures have been increasing in recent years and it is clear that our climate is changing. Climate change is the change of temperature of our environment. A majority of scientists suspect that humans are causing climate change by emitting CO2 into the atmosphere which creates a greenhouse effect and warms the planet. The effects of climate change are far-reaching, impacting ocean life and plant life across the globe. It also
