Parents are usually excited when they finally agree to send their child to day care. The first year of child care is supposed to be joyful, eventful, and full of new experiences for both you and your child. The problem that usually occur during the first year of child care is that your child seems to be sick way too often. Parents spend most of their time calling out of work or trying to figure out who will be taking care of their child at home. It might seem that your child has been sick for the entire school year. The University of Montreal conducted a long-term study from 1998 to 2006 and found that children in day care have a higher chance of getting respiratory tract infection and the infection decrease during elementary school year. …show more content…

Students can have a glitter experiment to see how germs are easily spread. Students can learn how to properly wash their hands. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states to wet your hands, lather your hands with soap, scrub for at least 20 seconds, rinse your hands, and then dry your hands with a paper towel. There are also recommended books for children, such as, Germs Are Not for Sharing by Elizabeth Verdick, Those Mean Nasty Dirty Downright Disgusting but… Invisible Germs by Judith Anne Rice and Germs Make Me Sick! by Melvin Berger. Students can also learn a song for hand washing. Students can also do science experiments about germs. The experiment demonstrate how quickly germs can be passed from one person to another. The apple experiment starts with two apple slices. One slice of apple would be place in a jar while the other apple will be pass around the classroom to make sure the slice is completely covered with germs. Students will monitor the two slices and see that the “germ” slice changes quickly. Students can also observe germs through a microscope. Parents also play a big role in preventing the spread of germs.
