Gun control has been a constant political topic since the creation of the Bill of Rights in 1971. Liberals believe people do not have the right to bear arms and should create more strict gun laws, while Conservatives believe people have the right to protect himself and to keep the laws that are in place. The purpose of government is to protect the rights of its people, which includes the right to own a private gun. Also, removing guns from America or having strict laws does not prevent criminals from obtaining one. A criminal will do whatever they need to do to achieve their end goal. The American people have the right to bear arms, but needs to enforce the current gun laws; increasing the amount of laws will not improve much. The recent mass shooting in Las Vegas has re-circled the debate on gun control. The scare has increased the worry of the politicians to create more gun laws for the safety of the people. However, ProCon reasons “states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states” (ProCon). ProCon releves that when people are told no, they react the opposite. Stating more laws will help lower murder rates lacks validity. Additionally, ProCon evaluates “It was also found that assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level” (ProCon). Sadly, murder still finds a way.
