This country has a mental health issue. We don't want to talk about it because it makes us look vulnerable. There is no law that can fix this, you could literally go door to door and take every single firearm in this country and we would still see tragedies like this occurring. We have a shit ton of people in this country and people like to kill each other, it's just the way this works for some reason. The reality of it is this; these public shooters are more or less a statistical anomaly. They're comparatively rare in a country where people constantly use illegally-acquired firearms to commit murders every day.
Some of the most crime-ridden areas of the country also have the most restrictive gun laws. We have seen time and time again with our allies that banning firearms simply doesn't work, violent crime usually rises actually and the people are left defenseless. So then

Violent crime has actually been on a downward trend since the Assault Weapons Ban expired, instead the violent crime in this nation is becoming far more concentrated in the urban areas of cities. This is due to the breakdown of the middle class and the increase of poverty in the nation. When people are uneducated and angry, they will become violent. That's simple fact. Instead of properly funding schools our local, state and federal governments waste countless tax payer dollars pushing incredibly bloated bills and budgeting wasteful, redundant, government agencies. The violence we see in this country isn't the sickness, it's a symptom. This is what happens when we allow other people to control our lives and control our resources, this is what happens when they do so poorly. The United States ranks 14th in education, 19th in National Satisfaction, 44th in health care efficiency, 2nd in Ignorance, 101st in peace, 46th in freedom of the press, 26th in over all child well being, 24th in literacy, 1st in super rich, 6th in child poverty and 1st in incarceration
Another one of the big arguement that are used by the liberal side of gun control is that america's violent crime rate is too high and that more gun control restrictions would help bring it down.”In 2013, an estimated 1,163,146 violent
Change is eluding our sight. There is no doubt that the debate of gun control has been prominent for several years. However, very little in the way of change has occurred. The question has shifted from how to establish gun control, to how can we avoid gun control. We the people have reached a point of no self control. We have been swept away by the blur of freedom’s sweet kiss. We hold a real issue at hand, now is most certainly not the time to sit around and ponder about the issue, we must take action in order to keep our communities safe.
Policymakers are constantly saying they need to lower crime rates in America. When looking at the numbers America doesn't have a significantly higher rate of crime compared to other developed countries. In fact, Canada has a 94% higher total crime rate per capita then America.”” There is not more crime in America, the crime is just much more lethal. When looking at violent crime due to guns America has a 288% higher violent crime rate then Canada.”” The main reason for the higher violent crime rate is the leisurely process of obtaining a firearm in America. In America, there is an average of 88.2 guns per 100 people, making it very easy to obtain a firearm. “”
Even though evidence proves otherwise, many people claim the large quantity of guns in the United States are culpable for the country’s murder rates. While the United States population and number of guns have steadily gone up since 1994, the rates of all different crime types have drastically gone down (Planty). Over the last nineteen years, almost fifty million guns have been added to the US, yet firearm violence has been reduced by more than two thirds (Federal Bureau). This completely contradicts the statement that more guns equal more violence. To compare the two, solely based on these statistics, it looks as though the upsurge of guns and armed citizens has only led to less violence. Another example, that disproves this, is the Firearm Act of 1997. After a school shooting, the United Kingdom passed this act banning almost all of their guns. That year, the UK had initially recorded seven hundred and thirty-four homicides. While only steadily increasing, by the year 2002, they had a recorded one thousand and forty-one homicides (Osborne). This act did not prevent homicides at all, and as a matter of fact it only created more violence. The District of Columbia is another case in point on how the lack of guns does not mean there is any lack of violence. DC has a 3.6% gun ownership ratio of the people living there, ranking it the lowest in the Unites States. At the same time, DC has the highest gun deaths and firearm robberies in the Unites States. The District has a
According to Nicholas Kristof’s article “our blind spot about guns” gun control is a lot like cars regulation such that if we can regulate cars we can regulate guns. It took a lot of time and effort but thanks to regulations cars are safer than they were many years ago, and the same is very possible with guns. We need to keep our country safe. The first steps to gun control are improving on background checks and also requiring trigger locks on all guns.
“Roughly 16,272 murders were committed in the United States during 2008. Of these, about 10,886 or 67% were committed with firearms.”( James). There is a strong correlation between guns and crime rates; often times the cities with stricter gun control laws will have lower crime rates. For instance lets take at New York City the murder rates in New York in 2009 were 471 people, in 1990 that number was 2,245. New
October 1, 2017 marked the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. With almost 500 injured and 58 killed, not only did Las Vegas feel the tragedy of a personal loss, but the incident had rippling effects that shook all of America (Flaherty). With the fresh wounds of the recent Las Vegas shooting, politician's initial reaction is to implement more strict gun restrictions and "lay down the law" to prevent a similar event from happening again. Due to the drastic laws being carried out, the topic of gun control is a current issue in society. Is the solution to implement more firm restrictions on gun ownership or can the government allow the people to be their own advocates? While the opposing views of pro-gun restrictions argue that is up to the discretion of the government, they are often narrow-minded resolutions with no hope to finding a real solution. This particular shooter obtained his guns legally and passed all background checks, going unnoticed until his plan unfolded. Establishing more strict firearm restrictions would not have stopped the Las Vegas shooting from occurring. The number of gun restrictions can not increase, the government needs to either fix the existing laws or do away with gun restrictions entirely. Gun restrictions are not the solution because guns are not doing the killing--people are, the laws only attack the law-abiding citizens, and the gun restrictions add another infringed upon right that the government controls. While voting against additional gun rules will not completely eliminate the controversy behind this topic, voting against these laws will be a milestone to regaining the rights we have already been promised.
For many years there has been a growing controversy between two sides. The side that wants to take away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state. States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and criminals having guns is definitely a challenge.
On April 16, 2007, Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and leaving 17 injured at Virginia Tech. On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza went on a shooting spree in Newtown, Connecticut, killing his mother before shooting 20 1st graders and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary. On June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Omar Mateen killed 49 people and injured 58 others. Most recently on October 1, 2017, 58 people were killed and another 489 injured when Stephen Paddock fired onto the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival. Many more mass shootings have happened where more innocent people have lost their lives. Gun control has been in debate for some period, some people advocate for it while others dissuade it. Now more than ever, changes must be made to better protect people from losing their lives to a shooter. To prevent future tragedies in the United States, there should be stricter gun laws enforcing a more advance psychological test, imposing a federal gun license, and have a 1 month waiting period to receive the gun.
Over the course of three years, approximately 160 school shootings have been recorded. Including fatal and nonfatal assaults, suicides, and unintentional shootings. In all, the incidents resulted in 59 deaths and 124 nonfatal gunshot injuries (Analysis of school shootings). It is unreasonable how many innocent lives have been taken away because of these tragedies. Oftentimes when a mass shooting occurs, people debate gun control laws more profoundly. Controlling the gun laws and the way guns are obtained may be a solution to help control school shootings and save many precious lives.
The United States has a population of roughly 319 million people yet it has an accumulative amount of 371 million firearms at its disposal. One notable example of this statistic coming into play is seen when you look at the city of Chicago. Chicago is the city with the strictest gun control laws in the country. When the Gun control legislatures were passed in Chicago, crime dropped at a rapid rate. Although after a year or two Chicago remained to be the most dangerous city in the United States due to the availability of firearms in the surrounding environment. With the wide scale implementation of gun control it is more than reasonable to expect a steady decline of gun homicides as a
One may attribute the increased rate of violence in the U.S. to guns, and while this may hold some truth, the fact remains that the mere presence of guns does not cause violence. Gun ownership is at about twenty five percent per capita in Switzerland, yet the homicide rate was about point five per hundred thousand residents, according to the Swiss Federal Government. Violence rates in the U.S. are not just because of the presence of guns; guns and peace can coincide. In addition to this, tighter legal regulations do not necessarily reduce violence, as about seventy nine percent of gun crimes are caused by illegal gun owners, according to a study conducted by Pittsburg’s Graduate School of Public Health and the Bureau of Police. Why would one with the desire to commit a crime bother obtaining a gun legally when the same gun could be purchased
Raise your hand if you have ever been victimized by a gun or know someone who has lost their life due to a firearm. Realize that if gun control laws in the united states were more strictly enforced a lot less of us will be raising our hands right now. The United States has a problem with gun violence. Great mass shootings and also school shootings have occurred in the past few years, bringing a great grief to America. Parents are scared to send their children to school or even attend any type of event due to these horrific events that have happened. Some Americans even want to ban the right to bear arms.
Everyone should have the right to have a gun in their homes for protection! Because obviously we have them to use it in order to attack someone. Now Democratic Party wants every gun in the state property registered and they want everyone to take a “Mental Health” test before they get a gun. Witch I totally agree with, because you never know what type of a person they’re. We should also watch their backgrounds.
There is many why one might commit all these shootings and violence, Emotions such as hatred and often mental illness. Hate is one of the strongest emotion there is and hate can make people do bad things like commit crimes and take people lives away. Quoting OXPLORES article GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE- PEOPLE DO it said “ If hatred and resentment build up over a long time, it can make people snap. When people snap they going to do bad stuff with anything they find. So really guns aren’t the problem. It would help if the government can identify the problem before it happens. The article GUNS DON’T KI.LL PEOPLE- PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE said various psychotic illnesses, such as schizophrenia cr or bi-polar
