How do we enact change? The way we will enact change is using social media and press to spread the word. We will also gather a petition ballet and get signatures to get voters to be on our side.
How do we get our legislation started? We will take small steps towards our goal. We will spread the word through the internet and the press to get people informed. What type of measure shall we propose? Once we become big enough and have enough voters on our side, we will propose a Bill.
What will our bill say?
Gun control is necessary in order to keep guns out of the hands of people who will not use them for the right purposes.
The ideal process to get a gun according to CSA is like so. When people are looking to buy a gun they will need to be able to provide proper identification. Also they must be buying a gun from a federally licensed gun shop. Along with their ID they will need to have proof that they have no prior incidents with the law such as robbery, illegal use of a firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm, etc. Though if you do have something on your record you will need to go through a three step process to get your right to bear arms back. The first step will be to have a psychiatric interview with a professional
Have you ever seen anyone get shot? How many funerals have you been with the person deceased being killed by a gun? Have you ever thought that maybe there could be a solution? Well, in the U.S. we know that in the bill of rights we have the right to bear arms. However what about others that don’t have “arms” those have no “protection” what would they do? There has been many tragedies made by guns in general attacking several amounts of people. But we still have done nothing. To give examples of some there was the Orlando nightclub shooting, this shooting happened in June 12, 2016 and the suspect used a rifle and a 9mm handgun and both were purchased legally (cite). Another example is the recent Las Vegas shooting happened in October 1, 2017 the suspect had at the least of a dozen of firearms that were again purchased legally that were modified again legally to become like a machine gun (cite). In just the two shootings that were stated both of them were guns that were purchased legally. With this position to have the U.S. ban guns as most of the times the shootings and attacks are used with legal guns not illegal guns.
Nurses have the ability to have their voice received which can aid with change in health care by a number of ways, one of which is to become active within the community and advocate for nursing and advanced care for the public. One way this can be done is to influence legislators by becoming active in supporting health care bills.
Joining a professional organization such as AANP and FLANP is the first step in making my voice heard on the issues. If these organizations have significant number of members, they will stronger in pushing the change. In addition to delivering the best care to my patients, using social media to create public awareness of what the NPs can do. Furthermore, be an active member in community like speaking in a health related seminars. This kind of exposure helps the NPs cause for change. Getting news programs to invite NPs to share their expertise on a major health issues is another way to gain public support thus leading to attracting the attention of the policymakers. There are also opportunities for the NP to serve in health-related boards to influence policymaking on NP
As a united front, one could only imagine the power nurses alone could have if everyone advocated for political issues pertaining to healthcare. Taking the time to vote for local representatives and governors who support positive changes in healthcare can make a big impact. Unfortunately, this method is not dependable due to the fact that nurses as a whole do not realize that there is power in numbers. For many reasons, such as lack of interest or lack of education, too many nurses have no future plan to become politically involved in
There are three options I obtain during my research. First, lobby to your state representative. Second collaborate with others who have the same issue or concerns you have. Submit signed petitions to state representatives.
A common controversial topic that is discussed universally is the issue of shootings and gun use. Citizens views on the topic range from the wishes to completely ban guns, to the total allowance and ownership of such items. In comparison, some drugs may be illegal, although people still possess them. Would the same be for guns? Should more be done to implement the control over guns? Or should more freedom be given to gun owners? One can visualize the positives and negatives regarding gun control by learning more about the following: the suspected terrorists list, the black market, increase in gun crime, rarely using guns for self-defense and how extensive background checks would prohibit unqualified people from obtaining firearms.
I have chosen to advocate for a national pending legislation. The individual that is sponsoring the bill is House Representative Robert C. "Bobby" Scott, for the state of Virginia in the 3th congressional district. This bill also
The action I want people to take is (donate money, sign this position, volunteer time, etc.):
As a health care team member who has direct access to patients on the daily bases who better to be a part of the policy making process. Nurses can not only be a voice for themselves to make their job run smoother but they can also be a voice for the patients to help them receive the care they deserve. If nurses fail to take part in this process others will make decisions that affect their practice without any of their input and they will continue to be forced to adapt to the changes that could have negative effects on themselves and their patients. Continuing to increase the number of nurses who are politically intelligent and active will help achieve the desired goal. One effective way to accomplish this is to continuously educate all staff nurses for this vital role. Another way is to pay attention to legislation that is introduced and by contacting elected representatives to voice opinions on your behalf, whether they are positive or negative. Technology makes this process convenient through the use of the Internet and E-mail. In the past the common thought among the nursing community is that there was nothing in their power that they could do as health personnel to change or influence the policies that were being implemented in their hospitals and clinics. I
To get those benefits for ourselves and our family, we have to get the legislators’ attention by the one and only way: voting. Have you ever wondered why three out of four people of the United States always support the idea of raising minimum wage from nine dollars for an hour to ten, but eventually the Congress has never approved for many years? Yes, there are millions of reasons for that problem, but one of the most important reasons is lack of voting. Surprisingly, more than half of the people who support that idea don’t even bother to vote, especially in the most important time like the midterm congressional election. According to the research of the US Census Bureau for the Election in 2012, 77 percent of people with income more than 75.000
Although there are many problems that arise throughout the United States over time, only a select few will ever make it to the policy-making agenda of the federal government. Many average American citizens will designate these problems to be addressed by the government, yet those elected officials that make policy will rarely respond to these requests. All of this is due to a multitude of factors that will cause an issue to be placed on the agenda that is deserving of review and action.
I agree with Dr. Haddad in that my proposal would require changes at the systems/societal level and masses of
Safe nurse staffing is vital to every individual in the community. Social media and networking can be used to involve more personnel into the effort. Support of all healthcare personnel is very necessary to make the bill a law. The New York state Nurses Association (NYSNA) can be the platform to initiate this effort. The American Nurses Association (ANA) website can be used to write to the representative you chose to help you pass this law. This information needs to be shared with as many nurses. Public awareness of the staffing situations by having rallies and giving out flyers on reports of hospital surveys that shows need for increase skilled nursing staff is important to gain public support. Encourage everyone to write letters showing support for safe staffing. A webpage set for sending letters with a prewritten letter will encourage more people to back you in this process. Have easy access for sending letters to different representatives or senators by simply providing the web-address in the flyers or/and medias like face book pages. The NYSNA is able to represent the efforts for changing the bill with the support of
The first step in the advocacy plan would be to talk with Joe Saunders, the representative in my district. It is important to voice your thoughts to a legislator who will support what you want to see
If you can make a law in your country now, what would you like to legislate for (or against)?
