Gun Control
Gun control. It has been a very controversial topic for many years, more recently with the Las Vegas shooting. Some think we should put into place more laws to ban the buying and/or selling of firearms. Some think guns aren’t the problem, but rather the person pulling the trigger. Gun control is defined as the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians.. I think the 2nd Amendment right to self-protection and defense of liberty should be granted to all those eligible ( legal age, no criminal history, nonviolent background, etc). New laws would not only affect those who oppose firearms, but especially those who rely on it for protection. Those who are pro gun control believe if we put more restrictions into effect then the death rates would decrease and the likelihood of a mass shooting would decrease as well. Stricter gun control laws will not decrease the criminal element in society, but rather would take away from law abiding citizens.
As listed in the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution, we have the right as an American to legally own a firearm. Many people would argue that gun ownership would not count as a civil right. According to World Net from Princeton University, a civil right is defined as a right belonging to a person by reason of citizenship especially including the fundamental freedoms and privileges
Countless opinions have been broadcasted on national news media regarding what society ought to do about gun control. This controversial topic sparks many heated debates with people of either position reluctant to compromise. Gun supporters claim that the proposed gun laws infringe on their constitutional right to bear arms. Conversely, others believe that restricted gun access would cause gun violence to decrease. Regardless of what side one stands on, with the increase in gun violence, it is safe to say that something must be done.
In today's society, it is a norm to see people with guns, no matter who they or what their background is. The Second Amendment to our constitution allows American citizens the right to bear arms. In today's society, anyone can get a gun even if they are mentally ill or have a criminal background simply because our laws are too weak and are not being enforced. Today, I am here to talk to you about how and why we should add stricter and or new laws regarding gun control, such as (hold up fingers) having universal background checks and changing the laws regarding who can buy guns.
School should be a place of peace and opportunity, but gaps in the system of gun control threatens the safety of faculty and students. School shootings have killed a total of 297 lives, young and old (Slate Magazine). Gun control has been a continuous nationwide debate for many years. It seems that no one wants to take a stance against guns unless they are personally affected. In order to take control of the matter and prevent more incidents from continuing schools need to change. To achieve a safe environment in schools need to educate faculty, safe and students, heighten security, and assess mental health issues.
"We are dealing with the largest mass shooting in our state's history," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (Tegna) On a peaceful November morning during a “Sunday service at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.” (Grinberg) A young man across the street from the church “was dressed in black "tactical-type gear" and wearing a ballistic vest he crossed the street in his car, got out and began firing he entered the church and continued shooting.”(Grinberg) During this time “a man who lives next door to the church grabbed his own rifle and engaged the suspect, The gunman dropped his "Ruger AR assault-type rifle" and fled. The neighbor chased after the gunman, police said. The chase ended when the shooter crashed his car about eight miles from
With gun related crimes steadily increasing, the spotlight has been on a solution to cease firearm problems. Firearms have been around for hundreds of years, and they are included in self-defense, sport, show, and unfortunately crime. The danger of the situation immediately escalades when there is a firearm involved. A plan to fix these issues has been talked about and looked at throughout the recent years, but there are many different aspects you have to look at when trying to find a solution for this problem. However, not all gun related situations are at fault, for most people follow the law, using and collecting the guns for sporting, collecting, and self-defense purposes. The second amendment in the constitution gives citizens of the United states the right to bear arms. Areas of concern that can be focused on to prevent future danger in firearm situations are gun control laws, process undergone
The second amendment states that we have the right to keep and bear arms. We are one of the few countries that continue to allow and accept this as a right. This is a right that many Americans safely practice, however, it's also a right that some Americans have taken advantage of. Every year, there are hundreds of mass shootings in America, killing a number of innocent people. Change is necessary in order for us to feel safer in our own country.
At 10:08 P.M. on October 1, 2017, the lives of thousands of Americans were suddenly and horrifically altered. Stephen Paddock, armed with rifles altered to achieve fully-automatic fire rates, unleashed an onslaught of lead from his thirty-second-floor balcony. His target was the Los Vegas Strip, where 22,000 people were gathered for the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. For close to ten minutes Paddock turned what was supposed to be a carefree culmination of the three-day festival into a living hell. When the smoke cleared, 580 people lay on the ground bleeding, of which fifty-eight were dead. The next morning, America awoke to the carnage caused by the worst mass shooting in its history, and true to form, immediately started pointing
Gun Control is one of the most debatable topic in the United States for the past several decades. America has witnessed assignation to mass shootings. Every time violence and guns are a factor of traumatic events the ongoing topic of gun control reemerges. The question that is asked is if our nation should enforce stricter gun laws. Would these new gun laws contribute to the decrease of gun crime in our nation? American citizens stand divided on this issue; both sides taking a strong position as what they strongly believe what should be done about guns.
After witnessing countless murders with the use of rifles and hand guns, gun control may be one of the first ideas that may come to mind. These criminals always seem to have high capacity magazines and weapons with fast fire rates. This would cause people to say, “let’s reduce the legal magazine capacity, and enforce stricter gun laws.” This ideology might sound great on paper, but it may ignore a more serious issue. It could be understood that there may not be any intention to ban guns completely, but certain aspects of gun control have negative effects on law abiding citizens who legally own guns. Gun control may sound like a great idea, but I believe that it is not going to act as a long-term deterrent for gun violence and murders in the future. The point is that no matter the laws enforced, there are always alternatives to buying a firearm legally, especially when purchasing guns for criminal intent. No matter what gun laws are enforced; criminals will always turn to the black market to purchase guns, purchase firearm ammunition, and how to prevent criminals from getting their hands on firearms through screening.
Since the ratification of the Constitution of the United States in 1790, people have debated and argued over the correct interpretation of its contents. This is especially true with the first 10 amendments created shortly after ratification to appease the Anti-Federalists. Perhaps the most contentious of these is the Second Amendment, which protects “the right of the people to keep and bear arms”. In the 21st Century there has been an increasing number of mass shooting by an individual or individuals and this has led to increased debate on the topic of gun control. I believe that gun control is an essential method of curbing gun violence and other gun related incidents. Firearm accessories such as suppressors and silencers as well as bump stocks are unnecessary for civilian use. In addition gun control laws would help to significantly lower the amount of shootings and other gun violence in the United States, as seen through other countries and their programs. Gun control laws are the only way to regulate and control the sheer amount of firearms in the United States, and can help to bring about the end of mass shootings.
For as long as one can remember Americans have been arguing over a very controversial issue, gun control. Many people believe it’s their fundamental right, as Americans, to own guns. As said in the Second Amendment, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. However, due to immense gun violence, many Americans and politicians believe there should be strong gun laws enforced to keep citizens safe. These arguments are not new, even before the second amendment was introduced Americans have had problems with the use and ownership of firearms. I believe we should have strong gun control laws for the safety of American citizens because it will reduce gun violence and gun assisted suicide, as well as keep guns from getting in the hands of criminals.
Gun control is not only a problem in the United States of America, but world-wide. This is due to mass shootings, suicides, and homicides. Gun control is one of the most divisive issues in American politics. While some people think guns should be taken away, others believe they should have the right to keep them. There is a lot of controversy on whether or not guns should be illegal or legal.
The right to own a gun has evolved over the years. Owning a gun is not just about possessing it, it’s about knowing you can protect yourself. Every person has the right to
The idea of owning a gun can seem immoral and wrong to some people; conversely, owning a gun is a form of protection and security to others. No matter how one views owning a gun, it is a right protected by the Second Amendment. Since the ratification of the Second Amendment, people have debated how the government should regulate the sale and ownership of firearms. The general public has its own opinion on gun control laws, shaped by mass shootings and personal experiences. The Republican and Democratic parties have different ideas on how firearms should be handled, and they agree on very little. Specifically, Georgia’s gun laws are less restrictive than other state governments. With so many people that all have different opinions, the issue is gridlocked, so how should the issue be solved?
Guns are used all over the world and are controlled in some countries but in others people are allowed to have any type of gun ranging from automatic assault rifles to big rocket launches. Should it also be controlled in our country the United States of America? Many say no yes and many others say NO! In my opinion it should be controlled.
