Ever since I was a little girl I was focused on helping those around me. The first major difference I made was participating in a school-wide feed the homeless situation. We were told to use giant ziplock bags and to put nonperishable food in them. If we were to see a homeless person on the street we were to give them the bag. This occurred in the fourth grade, ever since then I have been passionate about helping those who cannot help themselves. In ninth grade my Pre-AP English teacher had us come up with a community service activity. Whoever had the best idea with the best votes would be able to put their plan into action. I can up with the idea of helping animals. I am greatly opposed to animal cruelty and have done many small activities trying to raise awareness for this topic. The idea consisted of reaching out to a local animal shelter and raising money for it. We pitted homerooms against each other and the homeroom that raised the most money would be able to leave class and go play with some of the animals the shelter would bring. The idea was a humongous success! We raised a ton of money for a local shelter and we were able to play with some sweet dogs! When I joined Shades Mountain Christian School, I was immediately notified of the community service the school partakes in. There are two main organizations we work with: Operation Christmas Child and Urban Ministries. Operation Christmas Child is an organization where you pack a shoebox full of toys and it will be sent off to a child in need in another country. This child will also receive the Gospel in their native tongue. My class has made the most boxes each year to try and reach these children who so desperately need our help. Urban Ministries is a local ministry that reaches out the impoverished community of my area. When I have been involved, we have helped repaint houses for two older ladies. We would paint, scrape, or help repair some part of the home. We would also help tend the community gardens. Work in the gardens included raking, weeding, and picking any vegetables that were ready. Another form of community service I partake in revolving around the school is reaching out to Athens, Alabama. Our basketball players and cheerleaders have
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
I later realized that I should try to get some of my friends and classmates involved too. l started out my junior year. One thing our teacher tried to teach us was the acts of random kindness. After practicing random acts of kindness throughout the school, I mentioned the idea of volunteering a couple of hours with the Angel Tree. I also encouraged our school’s Student Council to help. The club adopted two angels. By doing so, this gave the students the desire to want to volunteer again the following year. This year, we had Beta club, student council and two dual credit classes, a total of 40-50 students, volunteer at the warehouse for 2 days. Some even came back during Christmas Break and volunteered at the Distribution Day. Not only is it important to lead and serve others, but one should also encourage those around him or her to serve others as
In the United States, homeless people have become a problem phase, as many people view the homeless as a menace to our society. The New Orleans Mission, Volunteers of America, and Ozanam Inn are non-profit organizations that provide services to people who are homeless. The group of people that are included in the category of homeless people includes veterans, people who are mentally ill, families who have lost their job, single parents, or runaway children. The New Orleans Mission, Volunteers of America, and Ozanam Inn are working to address issues of homelessness through cooperations and education.
47,725 or about 8% of the homeless population are veterans and 50% of the homeless people are over 50 years old in the U.S. Homelessness is an unsatisfactory issue that we as humans do not see the importance of the help they need. In our community, we take things for granted and not worry about the importance of helping others. The unfortunate people living in the streets have passed through difficult times and appreciate small or big things. Homeless is a person without a home, and therefore typically living on the streets. Some homeless people have become abusive of drugs, alcohol, and other different type of drugs. Homelessness is a major problem in our society. Homelessness contaminates our city, makes our city look dirty, and it is priority to fix this problem.
What do you think Homelessness/Poverty is? Why is the circumstances like? And how can we get out of Poverty? In today’s society Homelessness is simply defined as the absence of a place to live. So now that we know what is Homelessness we can think of many things such as houses, finance and the current environment. Approximately, 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness each year. The number of homelessness people, and the length of time they spend homeless, continues to rise. You can be wondering why do people come in Homelessness but the thinking realistic Homelessness is not a choice; anyone can become homeless. Although the root cause is Poverty, underlying issues include; poor physical or mental health, violence or abuse in the home, lack of employment or income, and a shortage of affordable housing. We as human beings can only help them and support; I have seen some people who don’t even value the people living on the street and asking for food or money. Toronto is the capital of Canada, and in Toronto we will see a lot of people who are in this situation. In the past 25 years, there has been a 450% increase in the number of youth shelter beds in Toronto. Living in a Poverty is no fun, it feels like you're living in a jail. I feel bad for those who don’t even have shelters or clothes to put on. I will share an example of mine; when I went to Toronto I seen a man sitting on the ground with dirty and ripped clothes on and he had a bowl asking people to give him money. So there are people who are really in this situation and some pretending to be. But in my point of view, So I would just say don’t just think about yourself but think about others who are suffering.
magine feeling lost and misplaced in this huge world around you. Each night you end up on a bench or in a dark alley; a place you call your bed. You wake up each morning deciding which public place you’ll go in to clean up. When you get hungry, you’ll have to beg people for cash. For the rest of the day, you sit in the city hoping people will notice you and help out. Knowing that you are not judged by who you are but what you are, you realize that most people in society don 't understand homelessness, and wonder if the circumstances in homelessness will ever change. Being homeless is a shock to many. It depicts someone just like us that lack the minimum necessities that we take for granted.
Astonishingly, 564,708 people are currently homeless in the United States, according to Social Solutions (Social Solutions, 2016). The topic, “Living Poor,” has only become much more apparent in the news and in everyday life. Two essays, On Compassion by Barbara Lazear Ascher and On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, can be evaluated as discussing two different aspects of the homeless situation in America. After close reading, On Compassion more effectively achieves its purpose of defining compassion than On Dumpster Diving, which describes the wasteful nature of mankind.
People who are suffering from mental illness are more likely to become homeless than a mentally able person. Mental illness affects more than half of homeless adults, as reported by the 2010 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress. (Donovan, 27) Because of their homelessness, they are often not able to get the care and medicine that they need. People, regardless of socioeconomic status, should have good healthcare readily available to them. In the US Declaration of Independence, it states that every citizen has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, homeless citizens are being robbed of their right to life when they are unable to access healthcare, and be treated for their illnesses.
For my community service, I have been going to Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start Program, or LBJ. At LBJ, it is my responsibility to look after children and clean up after them. The teachers there set up many activities for the kids to work on, most of the time they finger paint. The teachers also set up small field trips. For example, we once went on a field trip to a house that had set up a pumpkin patch and many other activities for the kids. The house we went to wasn’t very far from LBJ. The children had so much fun choosing a pumpkin and playing different games, and I had fun helping them and taking care of them.
Homelessness is a extensive issue around the world. “In January 2016, 549,928 people were homeless on a given night in the United States” (http://www.Endhome
Have you ever wondered how many Americans in the United States are homeless? There are thousands of Americans that are living on the streets, under bridges, or sleeping on a cold park bench every night. There are several ways they can escape lining out on the streets; they could move in with a family member or friends. Some reasons why Americans have become homeless is because the monthly income they have coming in is not enough to cover the monthly bills they would have if they were renting a house or apartment. There are so many people that have tried to get assistance by living in homeless shelters, but the homeless shelters are running out of room.
In the year 2020 the issue of the Homeless had become intolerable. An approximation of the annual number of homeless in america was between 80 million and 100 million people, with fifty percent being “chronic homeless”. It was costing more and more for their medical expenses, social services, and for the criminal justice system. Worst of all, all of these cost came out of our taxes! They were going to bankrupt all the middle class, and possibly drop the annual income of the millionaires by a few thousand dollars. The prisons were filling up with all these dirty, jobless vagrants. Taking all the cells away from real criminals. Prisons started having no choice but to release convicted felons early. Drug rates in cities were constantly rising, and with that came higher crime rates. It was becoming clear that the homeless were now the only people doing drugs or killing people. If we the people didn't do something soon our country would become as bad as Canada, or (God help us) France. Something needed to be done, so the government stepped in. Just like the perfect decision of the “Patriot Act” our government took this one into their own hands and decided that the
Throughout New York or even the United States, there are many people who are homeless and without jobs to help them survive. Many mothers and fathers are struggling to keep their homes while others are already out in New York streets trying to seek help. Those who are already on the streets are seeking charity from others as the walk by them. And to stop this from ever happening there should be more shelters, jobs, and help/supporters.
Imagine being a child and escaping your harsh home life to then be left to face the dangers of the streets. Think about what it would be like to have to wonder where you would sleep each night for protection or when you could find food next. While this is only a brief thought for most people, for some children this is their life. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, “Homeless youth, sometimes referred to as ‘unaccompanied’ youth, are individuals under the age of 18 who lack parental, foster, or institutional care” (“Youth Homelessness”). Youth homelessness can stem from multiple issues such as physical or sexual abuse from families, parental neglect and drug addictions, or even economic issues. When most people see these children they believe there is no hope for them. However, this was not the case for Penny Reynolds.
Have you ever wondered how a homeless person got to where they are? Homelessness happens for many various reasons. Reasons like; substance abuse, criminal background, mental disabilities, inability to work, as well as many other reasons. With my plan I hope to help reduce the amount of homeless people in the Stanislaus County. The plan will help people that come from every walk of life and every background.
