Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and death are all symptoms of people being morbidly obese. Children in America are struggling with being overweight. This is something that kids should not have to go through because they are only young children. Children should not have the high risk of being cursed with these terrible health conditions at such a young age. The people and children of America are so fat, and we are not doing anything to prevent the obesity epidemic; this needs to change. Everyone needs food. Kids in elementary school all go to lunch during the day, and the school provides a lunch option so that kids could buy their lunch at school. The nutrition level of these meals is extremely low. Most foods are fried, extremely greasy, carbohydrate loaded, high in sugar, or have a plethora of calories. Which are all extremely unhealthy and lead to high fat storage, heart disease, and obesity. Fixing the school lunches to have a more positive impact on the kids life will be hard because most schools are sponsored by a “big food” company, such as: Coca Cola, Pepsi, Taco Bell, or McDonalds. These companies give money to schools so that their product will be served during lunch. Therefore, the best way to positively impact elementary school lunches is to privatise the school lunch industry, which would allow the school to have more control. With cafeteria food being privatized, the school could really help the kids out by providing healthier foods for kids, rather than
Not one parent wants to see their child go hungry. Several students do not eat during their lunch period because they cannot afford it, or unable to bring food from home for many reasons. Most schools offer free and reduced lunch programs. Not every family may be eligible for these programs. In today’s economy, even middle-class families sometimes cannot provide their children with money for school lunches. A child missing a meal, and going hungry is one too many. Funding to provide all students with two meals per day during school is imperative. Free lunch in public school should be available to all students, despite the level of income.
In addition, there is no nutritious value in a single school lunch. Amanda Ray wrote, “Processed foods that are high in fat, sugar, and salt have become a mainstay of lunches in schools across America and the results are in, experts say these unhealthy school lunches are a contributing factor to the childhood obesity epidemic.” This shows that school lunches are absolutely unhealthy and school lunches has increased childhood obesity. It would be smarter if families across the United States would pack a more natural and nutritious school lunch for their student starting at a young age. The high in fat, sugar, or salt cause children to become overweight and very
One in six children in the United States do not know when they will get their next meal. Children who are facing hunger struggle in school, are more likely to repeat a grade, have developmental concerns and have behavioral problems. The National School Lunch Program has brought meals to millions of children from food insecure families for free or reduced rates.
Off campus lunch should be allowed at Hebron High School in order to have a more spacious environment for the students , more time to do things and giving them more freedom.
Have you ever thought why you’re school lunch looks so disgusting? Have you ever thought what it’s actually made of? Or why doesn’t this look like the way I ate it at home? For some schools, lunches lack in many different categories from visual pleasure to taste. If the school lunches taste so bad, why don’t we try another way to make them better. For a school in Greeley, Colorado, they’re doing just that. They’re firing up their stoves and are ready to get the ball rolling. There are many reasons on why the school is taking such a huge step backwards. Like, the routine of buying reheated foods and serving them without hesitation. The schools budget cuts or the kitchen being too old and small for the process of preparing such foods. As well as, the list of ingredients that do not need to be in the foods and the risks of diseases/bacteria in the reheated lunches.
People in Houston were told to evacuate their homes and to leave everything behind, due to the hurricane, but they couldn’t leave everything so they compromised and only brought with them the things that were an absolute necessity. Not a lot of people are able to compromise so easily. For some people this is a hard subject to grasp. Food is a major thing to in society today that not many people can agree on. Food is such a huge part of our everyday lives, but when two people are asked what they want to eat it seems that no one can come to an agreement. Food, however, is, “something beautiful to be shared with people” (M.F.K. Fisher), not something to cause problems and arguments when a decision about the food can’t be made. More often than not it’s really hard to compromise, but when it’s for the greater good and taking in account people other than yourself, there’s a certain satisfaction earned. In order to be considered a “well-rounded person” in society, it is inevitable that one has the ability to compromise. I had to experience compromise first hand in the humid, swampy, hot, seafood loving, Louisiana. “Four regions of south Louisiana were settled by the Cajuns.” (Ducote). So it’s probably pretty safe to say that Louisiana houses some pretty good, traditional Cajun food. This experience has helped me to realize my place in our culture when in comes to being a cordial, agreeable person.
Having past those awkward teen years, I know exactly what temptations lurk around the corner when dealing with weight. I can only say it gets progressively easier to maintain a healthy weight as you get older, but only if you follow my tips. Tip 1: Do not smoke, drink or take "recreational" drugs. Am I serious? Well considering smoking is anti-beauty, drinking is a fattening sugar alcohol and drugs can lead to eating binges, my answer is yes. Tip 2: Don't eat school lunches. The reason schools created lunches were for busy parents who didn't have time to prepare lunch at home. The result? Fattening choices like French fries and deep-fried chicken nuggets, desserts and ice cream. If you are wondering why you have gained weight during the school year, you
High School Students wait all day for lunch, not just to socialize but to actually eat. I know changing to a healthier lunch menu os a good idea because not only would make high school students happier but it would also make their parents happy, make students healthier, and get them through the rest of the school day energized. Unhealthy lunches can make students lazy throughout the rest of the school day, gain weight, and make kids sick. if students are coming to lunch and not putting the right type of foods in their body that's not good because that can translate to body composure in class and also make students lazy and not want to do anything because of all the grease, fat, etc that their lunch meal is giving off. say a student has PE
Off campus Lunch Have you ever wanted lunch that was not from school cafeteria? Today I will talk about off campus lunch. The issue is relevant because most of school lunch food is sometimes bad and expensive. I chose this topic because some people don't like the food the food that is they’re eating in school lunch. I am a credible speaker because of how this issue affects me.
The problem with school lunches have been rising over all of America and something needs to be done about it. Obesity has been a huge problem in the next generation of kids in school, kids are leaving schools obese or overweight which cannot happen. I have reason to believe that something can be done in order to help the school lunches improve and to become what students need. Many different organizations help schools and their lunches with these sort of problems. Furthermore, if we don’t want the organizations we can just fix this dilemma ourself, but these organizations are still very helpful. Including what Jamie Oliver did in his food revolution and do that same thing in our schools, we can apprehend the situation and refine the school lunches.
School lunches have been a hot topic in the Education and Agriculture department for decades. It is noticeably debatable on whether or not to tax more or make costs less, or both. Many students opt out of school lunches due to how unappetizing/non-nutritious it has become, but not every student has this choice and over the past few decades the rate of obesity and type 2 diabetes has doubled, if not tripled, and it begins in the cafeteria. The articles, “Bad Food? Tax It, and Subsidize Vegetables” by Mark Bittman, “Attacking the Obesity Epidemic by First Figuring Out Its Cause” by Jane E. Brody, and “No Lunch Left Behind” by Alice Waters and Katrina Heron, each gave complex views on government intervention, taxing junk food, and enhancement
School lunch: Do we eat what we pay for? Lunch is a very important time for students all over the world. It is the time when all the students talk about what has been going on in their lives as well as what they plan to do in the future. It is also the time when they complain about how bad the quality of the cafeteria food is and how expensive it is.
What if the schools freezer, oven, and everything else they use to cook with just broke? What would you tell the students? What would the students' eat? Well, if we had off campus lunches, then if that problem ever did happen then you have a backup plan. If students didn't have a ride or any money to buy themselves food, then a note would go saying that students should pack a lunch. Off campus lunches are trips that students could take during their lunch to a restaurant, so they can decide what they want to eat. Students at public schools want more freedom and off campus lunches would give them that.
School lunches have gotten worse throughout the years. Food comes out of packages instead of the kitchen, food is filled with preservatives instead of vitamines. Health problems are rising for children as early as the age of ten because of their unhealthy eating habits. To solve this growing epidemic, school lunches need to be cooked with a large quantity, that way everyone gets the lunch they want.
The fast-paced lifestyle of Americans today results in unhealthy frozen T.V. dinners and take-out meals. In present day society, the role of woman and men are virtually equal. With this making both the mother and father of families busy, there is little time for home cooked meals. A hardy breakfast is replaced with sugary pop-tarts, hand packed lunches is replaced with money for fast food, and frozen T.V. trays take the place of a healthy dinner. These foods may all taste good, but they are not healthy. By giving children lunch money, the children are having the choice to buy whatever foods they please. It could be easily assumed that a child would choose a candy bar, chips, and a soda over a school lunch. Again, the children are not the only ones to be blamed here. The parents need to take time to guide their children towards what food is healthy and what food is unhealthy. By taking a little more time out of the day and making healthier food choices, the rate of childhood obesity could slow down, if not stop altogether.
