Persuasive Essay On The Cuban Missile Crisis

Thirteen days. For some, it seemed like a lifetime. Thirteen days. For others, it was the scariest moments of their lives. Just thirteen short days to prevent a nuclear war. After Fidel Castro overthrew the Cuban government, he turned Cuba into a communist regime. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics decided to provide Cuba with Soviet aid. Soon after, The United States found evidence of nuclear missiles. The Cuban Missile Crisis was an important time in both Cuban and American history. Castro’s Cuba was just the beginning, things then started to intensify with Soviet aid, and culminated with the United States responding to end it all.

The Cuban Revolution was touchy topic for the United States and Cuba. America’s alienation of Cuba didn’t help when communism from the USSR was brewing over the revolution. When the revolution gained Castro as its leader, the worry and hatred from the United States was unbearable, especially when the Soviet Union landed in Cuba to interest Castro in its aid. The US’s fear of communism, Fidel Castro, and aid from the Soviet Union was significant because it changed the US’s political role in Cuba during the Cuban Revolution.

President, John F Kennedy, in his speech to the american people, “Cuban Missile Crisis,” recounts a time when the U.S was at its closest to a nuclear war against the soviet union due to nuclear missiles being planted in cuba. Kennedy’s purpose of this speech was to inform to the american people that he has decided to quarantine Cuba and of what his thoughts were of the current situation at hand. Kennedy uses a sentimental tone throughout his speech to appeal to similar feelings that his citizens are experiencing. Kennedy effectively informs his audience of the sighting of missile sites found through Cuba and what his resolve to end this would be through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos paired with rhetorical devices .

Furthermore, these weapons of mass eradication are an upcoming threat across the world because of its capacity for destruction which is why I chose to tell people my opinion on this matter. Additionally, I adopted this crisis as my essay topic because nuclear arms aren't just a domestic problem; it is a dilemma on a global scale. My aim today is to give you my two cents on why the prohibition of nuclear arsenals is the right thing to do! To stop this emergency, I will need all my readers help in protesting in peaceful ways against the arms because as Martin Luther once said: “Nothing good ever comes from violence.”
