This I Believe Essay
A valuable lesson I have been taught is anyone can overcome anything as long as they have confidence, and determination. Someone special to me said if I put in hardwork and believed in myself then I can excel in anything I do. This phrase gets me through each day. The reason I believe strongly in this is because I have overcome many challenges because of these inspiring words.
One example of me overcoming a challenge because of these inspiring words is me passing the reading and writing FSA requirement. The FSA is a state test that high school students have to pass in order to graduate. The first time time you take this test is at the end of tenth grade year. It takes a few months to get results back after taking the test. I received my test results the beggining of my junior year and I missed it by a few points. I retook this state test another time again failing but progressing from the time before. I took the test a third time and missed the passing score by one point, which my teacher informed me is less than half a question. That day many thoughts flooded through my head, would i graduate? Am I smart enough to attend college? Can I get a good job? I came home that day and told my mom I may not graduate. My mom responded to me saying nothing comes easy and you must believe in yourself that is the key to success. Taking my mom's advice I began to focus on perfecting my writing. I would look at FSA perfect scored essay to see how the judges were
In 1983, Raymond Carver introduced his short story “Cathedral” to the public. The first-person narrative takes place within the narrator’s home, where his wife is waiting upon the arrival of her blind friend Robert. The narrator, however, becomes more concerned about how Robert’s visit will affect him rather than enjoy the situation. Once Robert arrives, the narrator tries to understand the blind man, but he is unaware of what tasks Robert is capable of performing due to the narrator’s inability to “see”. In time, Robert shows the narrator the difference between looking and seeing through illustrations of a cathedral, drawn by the narrator with his eyes closed. “Cathedral’s” narrator exposes readers to anti-heroic views
This has influenced me to continue to never give up on myself and to push myself to higher limits than those others set for me.
Making it through hard times is challenging but worth it at the end. “Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret to success.” - Swami Sivananda
Encouragement plays a significant role in my success. Without encouragement, the achievement won't come true. Juliet Ferking, the author of "A Drive to Achieve the Extraordinary" from This I Believe: Life Lessons, tells her story about
Being an athletes is one of the best-paid jobs on Earth. Being that they are paid so much the cost for the consumer is very high. The prices of tickets and sports memorabilia have been steadily rising over the years. The average ticket prices for the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL all rose 5% to 10% this year, according to Jon Greenberg, executive editor of Team Marketing Report. (Mihoces).
I was blessed to grow up in a clean and healthy community, with a supportive family, and tons of friends by my side. These people have encouraged me to keep going, and not give up faith. Although I have hit bumps in the road, I have constantly had to keep in mind that in the end, everything is going to end up just fine. Furthermore, using my past experiences, I have used the encouragement I received from others to stay determined, and keep persevering. An example of this is my love and devotion towards soccer.
The last time I saw Charlie outside prison walls we were on the run. Charlie was on the run, not I, I just went along for the ride because he was my husband. Charlie was on parole, but he loved to drink his booze. In our state it's a violation to drink while on parole.
One thing that my father told me, actually a couple times, was “if you put in the work, no one can question that”. This meant a lot to me as I really thought about this and analysed it in my head. What he meant, or how I perceived it was, that you may or may not get to where you want to be in life, but nobody can question the work that you put in to get to where you want to be, or where you are right now, and this as with many other things was very, well, inspiring. That is, if you want to put it that way, and this is one of my very reasons for motivation and it helps me build confidence. Knowing this, I have high hopes that these lessons that I have learned throughout my time on this earth so far can benefit my well-being, as well as any of the peers around me, so that I can lead through my
With NFL Players kneeling everywhere and soldiers feeling unappreciated, our country is in shock. It all started by a player named Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, in 2016. This event persuaded numerous NFL players to continue this process. One by one, players all over the league began to protest to call attention to the issues of "racial inequalities and police brutality". With mixed reviews of this protest, I believe that kneeling during the National Anthem of the United States of America is disrespectful because it is abrasive, selfish, and hurtful. Also, I am not sure that all of those protesting in this manner know the true meaning of our national anthem or the flag that represents our freedom.
Almost everyone faces setbacks, failures or something that has consequences that end up helping them. For me, this would be getting the starting spot for football from my competition. I had to work extremely hard to get it. It took so much time, effort, and hard work, but I eventually got it. Getting this starting spot in football has made me the person I am now. This is how it has affected me in life and how it has made the person I am today.
Whenever I have challenges in school, like a hard test coming up or a big project, I accept it and work as hard as I can to get a good score. I don’t say ‘Why me’ and whine about it forever. For example, one time our math teacher told us that we had our midterm coming up that would count for a big chunk of our grade. As soon as she notified us, I started to study, determined to do good. I reviewed all of the previous material and got an A+ on the test. I faced it head on and came up with better results than if I had just given up and complained about it. Facing my situations with that attitude has made it easy to do well in school and the result proves the meaning of the quote to be
In conclusion gangs are a violent reality that people have to deal with in today's cities. What has made these groups come about? Why do some kids feel that being in a gang is an acceptable and prestigious way to live? There are many different theories to these questions. On the surface, gangs may appear to be shallow and materialistic; a result of human beings' personal wants, but there are speculations that are more profound. In reference to the way humans are influenced in society, there is valid evidence to distribute blame at negative forces of economic disadvantages, capitalism, and the media.

“Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics,” announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. “What is your topic Cindy?” As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. “Waffles are better than pancakes.” I figured that a waffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. “Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!” I survived to live yet another day.
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.
