A. DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU LEARNED MORE OR LESS DOING THIS APPROACH TO THE ISSUES WE HAVE DISCUSSED THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER OR WOULD YOU HAVE PREFERRED A TRADITIONAL EXAM? WHY? WHY NOT?
I feel that I learned more doing this approach to the issues we have discussed throughout the semester because it has allowed me to focus on the topics that I find interesting and has also allowed me to have a hands on approach when learning the topics. It also took the pressure off having to learn the topics just to pass the test, it made it fun and interesting to learn the topics.
B. DO YOU HAVE GREATER PASSION ABOUT YOUR TOPIC NOW THAN YOU DID BEFORE YOU WENT THROUGH THE VARIOUS STEPS FOR YOUR MOVEMENT? WHY/WHY NOT?
I do have greater passion about my topic

DO YOU KNOW PEOPLE WHO WOULD ACTUALLY JOIN YOU IN YOUR MOVEMENT? HAVE YOU TOLD PEOPLE ABOUT IT?
I do know people who would actually join me in this movement because some of my friends have experienced the same thing I went through. Also a lot of people I know plan on having children and would love to have paid maternity leave when they welcome their new bundle of joy. This topic actually came up at work the other day and I told all my coworkers that I was doing this movement project about it. They all seemed really interested and all expressed how much it would have helped them out if they were provided paid maternity leave.
D. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED ACTUALLY TAKING SOME ACTION? IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY AND SUPPORT BASED ON WHAT YOU LEARNED WOULD YOU TRY TO IMPACT THE WORLD BY STARTING THE MOVEMENT YOU PRESENTED?
I have not considered taking some action, between finishing up my bachelor’s degree and raising a two year old alone there is hard to find time for anything else. If I had the opportunity and support based on what I’ve learned I would try to make an impact on the world. I think it is a great movement and would provide so many women with the time they deserve with their newborn. It would allow them to have time off while giving them financial stability. Being able to have paid time off, would allow new mothers to adjust to the schedule they’re about to intake. Raising a child is no small task and being able to provide support to these new mothers is something that
People who are willing to challenge society for their rights and accept any resulting consequences will more often than not, cause a change in
I am sure that everyone of you have heard about aliens and UFOs. Indeed, we all have heard about the famous case of aliens and UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico. Most people might be interested in the topic of aliens, but I know that the majority of you just think of it as rumours and the existence of them are impossible. Therefore, I am standing here in front all of you to make you change your perspective. I am strongly confident that I have found the evidence of their real existence to convince all of you.
"I started this in 2012 when a young woman was raped and murdered in Brisbane and it had a incredible impact on the community and there were 20,000 people marched
Once a female worker is first hired, many companies put time and money into training and educating the worker in that career. After a few years this worker may want to start a family and in turn go on maternity leave. At this point the company will then have to pay the new mother and pay a second worker to work her job as well. All this extra money being spent can be highly detrimental to companies and small businesses. So why should a business shell out money to a worker who is not even contributing? Well, spending this money might be a worthwhile investment. In 2011, a study done in California shows that 91% of companies with paid leave policies report either positive benefits or no effect at all. It is also more likely for a women to take a job if she sees that it has paid leave. Another reason people might be opposed to joining the Women’s Rights movement is because they believe that women are less educated and less qualified than men. This is false. The Department for Professional Employees (DPE) reports that since 1982 women have actually been obtaining more bachelor's degrees than men. The DPE also states that more percent of women go to college than that of
There are movements today that seems to be having an extraordinary impact on the social changes that they wish to promote to change, but how much is that driven by authentic activism with a strong tie to specific values that those movements hold? Author Malcolm Gladwell discusses and analyzes how, in the past, the movements that emerged were composed of people who had personal connections with either what the movement was seeking to achieve or the people within that movement. Today it seems as though movements have no noticeable impact and are very loosely tied together due to advances in technology and how we use it. At the time that Malcolm Gladwell’s wrote his article, “Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted”, it seems like
I am sorry about not writing, I have been just going over emails and have seen I have missed several from you both :-( I think I mentioned it but if not Bob's contract will not be continuing next year so - I/we are in the process of prepping for returning stateside for a short vacation (ugh Bob's dad and medical appointments) - not much of a vacation really. Would cancel but the tickets have been purchased for months. Bobs dad signed himself out of rehab last week so don't know where that will lead. As far as the contract cancellation, that only affects the contract pilots and not the rest of the teams, some of the pilots have been here for years - like 25yrs! Oh well, Bob & I had discussed leaving so now the decision has been made for us. Bob is networking, looking at picking up something stateside this time, at least the senior pilot let everyone know in advance so we have until the
We can make a difference. Right now, as a collective generation, we are known for being killed in our schools. But we are also known as a generation that isn’t afraid to stand for what they believe in.
I want to step up to be part of the movement to insure we retain our democratic society by being actively involved so as not to let the few quietly acquire power over the masses for lack of attention and active participation in their rights by the majority.
15, 2011. Thanks to the passing of the California Dream Act my uncle now attends the University of California Los Angeles. It was a topical November day. I was in the beginning of eight grade year. I was looking thru my Facebook newsfeed and I see a picture of my Uncle sitting down in the middle of the State Capitol in Montgomery Alabama. Well reading this post he said “I am willing to go to jail for what I believe in’’. I remember reflecting on this. His action really motivated me and still motivated me to this day. It made me think of the Civil Right Movement of the 1960’s and how if you speak your mind it can make a difference. He sat there in the middle of the Capitol since it open till he was forcibly removed by the Capitol Police and arrested. He was willing to face deportation for a cause. I feel that if I attend this trip I can make a different. There two ways to make a different in this country protest or lobbying for it. If I would attend I would want to talk to a republican Congressman from California. If I get the opportunity to speak to the congressman/ women hopefully I can give this person a different perspective on the issue. Big things don’t happen overnight and if I am able to do that then I have already made a
In conclusion, with this movement and actions of many brave souls in the past, the world would not be the nearly equal and free world we know
The women 's rights movement in the 1960s made one of the most monumental accomplishments of gaining equal opportunities in the workplace with the Equal Pay Act guaranteeing women “equal pay for equal work” as their male counterparts. Although this opened doors for women to have the same opportunities in the workforce as men it didn 't, however, address the fact that women would most likely work during pregnancy and after giving birth. During the late 1970s, the amount of women in the workforce increased and consequently it spurred on the mandate of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act banning businesses on firing or denying women jobs based on “pregnancy,
With the looming threat of global warming, overpopulation, and world war III we do not often find ourselves in a position to change the world around us. But what do we do when the situation presents itself? What is our response to injustice? Sometimes nothing. In first world countries it is easy to discuss an issue without taking action because people often feel too minimal to make an impact. However, history shows some of the largest social and political movements were sparked by the actions of a single individual with the audacity to stand up. The truth is power in the hands of an individual has the magnitude to create equal amounts of good as it does bad, but the power for change does not only lie in the hands of powerful, it can be found in the hearts of any individual, no matter their status or origin.
Persuasive speech outline purpose: To persuade my audience to donate blood through the American Red Cross. Introduction:
One person taking it upon themselves to be the catalyst for change can inspire others, and as a result, stir up a movement that brings about revolutions. It is true that starting a movement can have a lasting effect on societies for generations. We are descendants of kings and queens from the lands of covered with gold in abundance. I would love to marvel in the old kingdoms my forefathers lived in thousands of years ago, before border lines were drawn and people separated themselves in a continent that would have been unstoppable as one united empire. The greatest injustice inflicted on the continent of Africa did not come from colonization and exploitation of the people at the hands of Europeans. It came from the bureaucrats themselves that allowed greed to cripple the continent.
We are blessed to live in a country where our voices can be heard. “Words have power, words are power” Qahtani Mohammed. Let’s all use our power to redefine reality
