As long as you are consistent and provide leadership, your pet will adjust. Here are 10 THINGS TO BE as you start the bonding process that establishes your lifelong relationship with your pet.
BE SMART: It 's very important for your dog to be wearing an ID tag from the first day he is at your home. Before you bring your new dog or puppy home, have the tag ready for him. If you haven 't chosen a name for your dog yet, just put your address and phone number on it.
BE KIND: Your pup will probably need to go to the bathroom soon after he arrives. It would be a good idea to take him outside before he begins to explore your home. Praise him when he goes.
BE QUIET: Your puppy will do better if your house is quiet. Loud noises may scare him. Later, when he is used to your house, you can introduce new sounds slowly.
BE BRIEF: Holding your puppy is important so he learns to love you, but on the first day, hold him only a few minutes at a time.
BE THERE: Give your new dog time to explore your house, but don 't leave him alone. You can stand behind him and follow him to the places he wants to go.
BE FUN: Have a couple of toys ready for your dog to play with. He may not want to play the first day, but they will be there if he does.

Imagine walking in the door after a long day; your furry loving puppy is sprinting towards you so excited to see you after missing you all day. Your puppy is ready to grab your attention and distract you from the terrible day you’ve had, comforting you in the process. Dogs are great pets because of their comforting nature, playfulness and protective tendencies.
Training your dog is the most important part of canine companionship. A happy dog is one who has structure and boundaries. Dogs are pack animals, and as such, they need guidance in the behavior that you expect from them. If you don't follow through in this leadership role, then the dog will naturally feel as if it is his place to do so. A dog that understands that you are the leader will naturally be easier to train.
Owning a puppy is a big commitment for all family members, especially in the first few days or weeks. Everyone knows that cats and dogs are as different as day and night. Dogs will play frisbee with you all afternoon
Though they are capable of learning and following several commands, they don't always feel the need to go along with your agenda. It's best to start training this breed as early as you can so he gets used to doing things the way you want. Prepare yourself for a bit of a stubborn streak, however, and some periodic mischief. First-time dog owners can do well with the breed but may want to consider some obedience classes. Getting Along

One of the most effective ways to make a puppy comfortable in your new den - the box - is to mark with your scent so that it sits close to you. A pillowcase full of worn shirts and dirty socks may sound nasty, but to your new dog, it's a strong,

Hi, I'm Alyssa! I'm a student in NYC studying Economics. I've always loved dogs and growing up, I've had Keeshonds and my current Labradoodle, Jack! I've trained Jack in my free time to not do only basic tricks (sit, stay, high five), but to bark on command and put his toys away. I've taken care of both dogs and puppies for friends and gala events and volunteered at Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Walnut Creek, CA for 3 years to which I've had experience walking dogs, and caring and socializing with dogs. I can't wait to get to know you and your dog!
if you are standing outside with them you should ignore them and just make small circles walking around gets them to move which stimulates them to go to the bathroom.. if you start to talk to them or play with them before they have done their business you may distract them and prevent them from going to the bathroom outside which means they will have to do it in the house when you go back in.. so ignoring them and just walking in circles is the best thing to do... Once your puppy has done his/her business you can bring them back in the house and give them a little free time to explore the home.. no crates or leashes.. but not for more than 30 minutes at a time UNLESS you REALLY are watching them.. remember it is YOUR job to make sure you don't let your new puppy have accidents..if you fail on supervising them, and letting them out at the right time, then you can't complain when they leave a mess for you to clean
This is typical older dog behavior when being introduced to a puppy coming into his territory. It takes a while for the dog to process the
