The story begins with the family Clutter, who lives in Holcomb, Kansas and own a farm. Mr. Clutter is very much loved in the Holcomb society aswell as the rest of the Clutter family. Then Dick plans to rob the Clutter family and plans to leave no witnesses alive when they rob the place. Together with his companion Perry, he robs Mr. Clutter at night. They go in and scare the gun-shy dog, so the Clutters don’t wake up. They break into the residence, and start searching for Mr. Clutter’s safe. This safe should be in the office of Mr. Clutter, Dick heard a story that Mr. Clutter always carries’s large amounts of money.

As Jeff relives the life over again he does things differently each epilogue. He does such things as having different romantic partners, different outcomes in his life, showing Jeff living within the time he is in that is until of course the main cause of the time travel which is the repetition of dying over and over. As Grimwood illustrates the different lives Jeff lives, he shows the simple act of things we take for granted by living within the time he is in. As Jeff relives different lives we see Grimwood show us how easy it is to lose your free will no matter what you do to live within that time. Just as in the text when Jeff was aware of his heart attack he was in the hospital but could not change his outcome.

Jeffery was getting tired of the medicine industry. He had an already trained successor to run the business. He was going to retire today and travel into the wilderness for a new part in his life.
