Philippines: one step forward, two steps back
Even though today’s world seems to advance their still seems to be one very serious and large issue, poverty and hunger. This issue is seen in lots of nations across the world, but it’s seen more in third world countries in East Asia, Africa, and South America. After many natural disasters and multiple changes in the form of government the country of the Philippines seems to have a high number of people living in poverty and starvation. Due to the free enterprise market, workers in the Philippines work hard and long hours for very little pay. The number one business in the Philippines is farming, and for this you don’t need to study, which means lots of people drop out of school, a higher education would become better jobs. A stainable solution to end poverty would be to keep a stable government that will help the economy during natural disaster.
Even with today’s modern day technology and our genetically engineered food and wealth, the world still faces a problem that seems to not come across people’s minds these days, hunger. Millions of people suffer from extreme hunger due to poverty around the world. Even with all of the donations from all around the world it seems to not be enough, multi-million dollar organizations seem to donate money and food to the people that suffer from this. “Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM), the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, announced today that it is directing $1.5 million from its
The world is not caring about the more important things in life such as being thankful for what they have and where they live, having great support systems, and being educated. All these things are great to have in order to be successful but in the shadows are the ones who don’t have the opportunity to have those things and not having these things lead to those who end being homeless, hungry, or resort to violence. I’m here to talk about the big thing that is constantly on TV but isn’t being taken into action and that thing is world hunger. World hunger is one of the main problems in America and even all around the world. I was watching TV and I noticed the BET awards was on and there were all these rich celebrities who have all this money
Have you eaten today? Can you eat today? For many in America and across the world the answer to those questions is no. Having a meal and to afford one is difficult. In 1984, Billy and Debbie Shore founded the Share Our Strength organization as a response to the famine in Ethiopia. As time continued, Billy raised more than $600 million for the organization to fight against hunger and poverty. It soon branched off into smaller chains such as No Kids Hungry and Cooking Matters. Through the campaigns of No Kid Hungry and Cooking Matters, Share Our Strengths is on a mission to end childhood hunger and to teach low-income families how to shop and cook healthier.

In some countries, people living in poverty may be oppressed, current low economic status causing unemployment or homelessness. Many people are living in poverty due to situations out of their control. It seems like in other countries, direct assistance has helped influence the reduction of poverty. There have been many studies performed to change societies perceptions and solutions to rid poverty such as providing education, reduce the cost of living, raise minimum wage and try direct assistance. Education can be a helpful tool in bringing people out of poverty because it increases the number of highly skilled workers which help generate more money for everyone.
everyday, you are probably wondering why nationwide hunger is an issue. Families that are subject to poverty generally have little money, goods, and don’t often have much support. Economic income does determine if a child is more likely to go hungry or not. Right here in the Central Valley and Imperial County have the highest percentage of child hunger. Due to high unemployment rates, people are having harder times to feed their families. Because of this Feeding America discovered that these families are forced to make the choice between feeding their household or paying bills and rent to provide a roof and warm bed. Even with organizations such as Hungry Harvest, Feed the Children, Meals on Wheels, Feeding America and No Kid Hungry, studies continue to show that nationwide hunger is still a serious issue in the United States. In order to solve this problem more people need to be made aware of how important it is to help those that don’t have the same luxuries and to create new organizations and programs that lower income families can benefit
People all over the world think that the united nation sheuld help starving people more. The united nation did a fundraiser trying to get 64 billion dollars. They only reached a third of their goal getting about 2.2 billion dollars. They are expecting a lot more to come. They are using this money to get cheap food and clothes for people. Nations all over the world are selling veggie packets for cheap. these packets are climate proof so they won’t get damaged in the sun. since people have limited water the veggies don't need milk or water to work. Families usually live off 1.00$ a day so these packets are 75 cents. The proportion of hungry people in the world has in fact fallen from 20 percent in 1990 to about 16 percent today but

A miserable economy, high unemployment, increased poverty and a dis- appearing middle class is adding up to more hunger, and the ACFB has responded, increasing food distribution by more than 30 percent a year for the past three years. Without increasing staff and utilizing more than 1,000 volunteers a month, the ACFB dispersed about 34 million pounds of food (Grillo,
That is why at the end of every day, good and edible food is thrown out. Instead of helping those who need it, these corporations would rather throw food out. Almost a billion people are suffering from malnutrition in the world, yet corporations and businesses are still getting rid of food. Food has no inherent worth to companies unless they
Millions of people deal with hunger daily while the United States, as well as other developed countries, waste enough edible food to feed every hungry person on the planet. “Forty percent of the food in the United States
All around the world, many countries are suffering from poverty and hunger. This problem can be caused by harmful economic systems, environmental factors, and past leadership.
Today all over the world, there are people who haven’t eaten in days, weeks, and maybe even months. Many food organizations are working to fix it,but the countless number of Africans who live homeless.”In 2012, 501 million people, or 47% of the population of sub-Saharan Africa, lived on $1.90 a day or less, a principal factor in causing widespread hunger.” World hunger has been a problem for a long time now. I feel it can be stopped by donations farming and many more food related things.
In 2014, a foundation called Feeding America did a survey on the people they serve and found that in order to stretch their food budgets 79% of them purchase inexpensive and unhealthy food in order to stay fed. This can seriously impact their health, because no matter the age, healthy bodies and minds require nutritious meals. In some cases, food insecurity can even lead to Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity. These are just a few examples of why food insecurity is so harmful. Fortunately, there are many organizations, clubs, and foundations that are committed to ending hunger in America, and eventually the world. The first step to solving this problem is spreading information, and realizing just how dangerous food insecurity is, and who it affects. After learning these things, you may want to help and there are many ways to do that. I’m sure in the past, you've donated food to the annual canned food drive our school puts on, and that’s just one way you can contribute to solving this problem. There are many organizations that ask for donations and will put your money to great use, for example every dollar you donate to Feeding America will provide 11 meals for a child in need.If you don’t have food or money to donate, you can donate
Poverty is a social problem that affects everyone on an economic, political and social level. The problem of human suffering is one that we must combat strategically on many levels. According to the United Nations, “in 2015 more than one billion people around the world live in a state of poverty, lacking the basic goods food, clothing, and shelter that humans need to survive” (“Poverty”). There are a great number of areas that keep individuals poor, such as lack of resources, inadequate income, lack of education, language barriers and the high cost of child care. Being able to work and provide basic necessities is our basic human right and we should not be deprived of these basic human rights that individuals need in order to live satisfying lives. The government has the responsibility of helping individuals in need with the economic assistance to feed, clothe, house, educate, provide health care and decent wages for every individual. They should ensure that individuals have access to resources that will help them build a better future. There are several ways that we can work together to strategically find solutions to end inequality among the poor individuals in our society.
