Going to a high school in Atlanta, I had what most people would consider a typical life. I had a Mother and Father who loved each other very much, a sister who annoyed everyone when she was home, a dog as cute as could be, and a one story house, where escaping my family was near impossible. I loved playing sports, especially baseball. Academics were never my strong suit in high school, but I always got my work done. Looking back now, one could say I was an average guy living an average life. Growing up a University of Georgia fan, I thought my heart belonged in Athens. Therefore, when I began my college search, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. Of course my parents wanted me to apply to different school in order to see where I stacked …show more content…
Because I grew up playing on various sports teams, I loved the comradery and atmosphere of a team. I thought I could translate the passion that I had for sports into a career as team physical therapist. Next comes the question of why a physical therapist. Personally, during my time playing sports, I have been lucky enough to avoid serious injuries, which needed rehabilitation through physical therapy. However, I have friends who have gone through physical therapy and have shared their experiences with me. They say they arrive to the physical therapy session with a frown on their face because they are discouraged and sad they cannot play the sport they love, but when they leave, they walk out the door with a giant smile on their face. One reason is because they see themselves getting healthier and stronger. The second reason is due to the fact that their physical therapist is able to sympathize with them and help them view their injury in a more positive way. Sometimes, a patient even comes out of physical therapy stronger than they were before. For these reasons, the occupation of a physical therapist attracted me. I would have the best of both worlds. I could be able to pursue my desire to work with athletes and in the process, bring joy and positivity to others, who are down on their
A Physical therapist is a highly educated, licensed health care professional that can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility. They can teach patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits. To become a physical therapist one must go through years of school and training. My career goal is to have my own Physical Therapy practice, and to be my own boss. I want to help revolutionize the ways in which medical personnel approach their patients, as there tends to be a disconnection between patients and medical staff. One of the biggest challenges I will likely face is owning my own practice, because I would first need to work under another company until I gain enough experience and financial wellness to open my own office. However, money and experience are only a small portion of making my business and my vision successful. I will need to be diligent in my pursuits, despite any setbacks that may occur, in an effort to help my practice thrive. My patients will be my number one concern in this respect. If I implement
Physical therapy to me hits deeply because I had to go to therapy twice for a number of months. The atmosphere and attitudes of the people who helped me were so determined to make sure that I got better and back to my full potential if possible. That is one thing that makes me want to be a physical therapy. I want to be able to help people through a dark time of injury and help motivate them and guide them through their situation. Also, I want to be able to make a great impact on someone’s life in wellness. Athletic training is a desire on my
Why do you want to attend a summer program at Wake Forest University? How will this experience help you prepare for your college career and beyond?
I want to help others, in any way I can. My ticket would take me to a physical therapist degree. I gained an interest in becoming a physical therapist when I started to care more about my physical fitness, and wonder all about muscles and the human bodies full potential. I know I would make an excellent physical therapist. My interest in the human body makes it very easy to learn and drives me to learn as much as I possibly can. When it comes to the human body and learning about how different activates and diets affect it, I can never learn enough. I want to be a physical therapist so I can help others feel healthy.
If anyone has ever played a sport or been in a competition, they know how it feels when they are stuck on the sideline or on the bench while one knows they could be helping their team in the game. Nobody wants to be injured and have that kind of feeling any longer than they have to. Every player wants to get back to being healthy and on the hardwood or the pitch as fast as possible. Those feelings never go away, and there is not many careers that one can pursue to keep that feeling. If one is not talented enough to become a professional athlete, the opportunities are slim. One way to stay around the life an athlete has been accustom to for so many years of their life, is to go into the field of sports physical therapy. This helps a person be around the athletes and continue to benefit a team while still retaining a stable career to support a family. Although physical therapy requires determination and the will to see things through and to get things done, one who is planning a career in physical therapy will first need a good education and degree. Also, one needs selflessness, respect, and accountability. Finally, a physical therapist needs good leadership qualities to push patients in prevention and rehabilitation.

My mother always told me that I should appreciate my background and ability to speak two languages fluently. I never really did until I began shadowing at a physical therapy practice the summer after my junior year. When I was in sixth grade, I attended a Career Day event. I was immediately attracted to the Sports Medicine sign up sheet, because I had been involved in athletics through all of my childhood. From that day on, I knew exactly the type of career I wanted to pursue. Over the next few years in school, I was prompted to do some career exploration and research. It was during this time that I decided I wanted to go into the field of physical therapy. I am the type of person that does not make important decisions like this without being
My intended majors I’m interested in are special education and physical therapy. Growing up as a young child I was always helping my mother with my disabled brother who has severe Autism. It wasn’t easy taking care of him but as I grew older I became more comfortable with teaching him things like how to write, pronunciation with words, and politeness. One thing I learned from doing this is you need to have a lot of patience. I’m a very calm and easy going person.
I have known since the age of thirteen that I wanted to have a career in the health field. The decision came when a very close family friend was diagnosed with cancer. During his battle he suffered from bad radiation burns and loss of mobility in his right arm. I was there to assist in the daily cleaning of the arm, and also to help guide him through his exercises that the physical therapist had given him. My first thought was to pursue nursing, but after volunteering and spending time talking with and observing nurses and physical therapist, I ultimately chose physical therapy. I am confident and committed to this choice. The realization came during my senior year of high school as a new visions student. I was able to earn college credit
I believe that my motivation for improving and strengthening human health, enhanced with the knowledge I will gain in the Exercise Science program, will advance me into an excellent Physical Therapy school. The Exercise Science program will expose me to the responsibilities and skills needed to become successful and confident in my work. Achieving a well educated degree in Kinesiology will enable me to live my passion as Physical Therapist. At the age of 6, I began a career as a competitive gymnast. Training started out at 15 hours per week, year round, then progressed to 20 hours per week.
Being a physical therapist, to me, is someone that is able to enhance physical and functional abilities, promote optimal quality of life, and prevent onset and unwanted diagnoses for every person they evaluate. It takes a knowledgeable, patient, determined, and passionate physical therapist to complete these arduous tasks. A physical therapist’s goal should always be to improve their patients’ lives in various aspects. It is also important for the physical therapist to have a strong belief and positive outlook for the treatment they prescribe, because if the patient notices discouragement, they will not trust the healing process. I have learned through observations that physical therapy is a very adaptive field; not every patient is the same, changes occur, and alterations are often made. The main objective is to keep the person active in any way they can be, because a sedentary lifestyle can easily ruin a person’s body, abled or disabled.
As a freshman, I applied to Springfield College as a Pre-Physical Therapy Major. I did not get accepted and I honestly believe that was the best for me. It gave me the time to reevaluate if I really wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy. It allowed me to focus on my school work and adjust to a completely different life style. It had given me opportunities to shadow a Physician’s Assistant, a doctor, to broaden my options for my future. Even through all those experiences and my time as a Sports Biology major I realized I still had a passion and desire to achieve a degree in physical therapy Sports Biology has helped me towards the path of reaching these future goals. I have been challenged and overcome obstacles in this major such as
The Physical Therapy profession is much ore than a job to me, it allows to help improve the health of society by optimizing mobilization. Movement is the goal and key to optimal living and the ability to overcome any obstacle in this society. As a future Physical Therapist with the knowledge of shadowing both oncology and pediatric rehab the experiences that I have received were both rewarding and unforgettable. Both of these specialties are fragile when it comes to patient-care. U was able to establish a direct relationship, developing a trust while monitoring their progress. Devoting my time to these rehabilitation facilities, it is the reason to this day as to why I want to become a physical therapist.
