Part Two: Experience After researching Physician Assistants and Colleges that go along with Physician Assistant, I then went and did some experience to help understand what Physician Assistants actually do. I used a YouTube video for my experience. I chose a video for my source above all others considering I felt it would be easier and no one in my family is a Physician Assistant or work with any. The search terms I used to find a video is Physician Assistants and what they accomplish. A lot of videos popped up, and two videos stuck out to me who was titled, Life as a PA Student and What to Expect on Your PA School Interview. The name of the individual that was talking in these videos was Philip Maxwell. He does an excellent job on
In my time volunteering at the hospital, I hope to gain many different experiences. However, there are a few main ones: adaptation through enrichment and dependability. First of all, I want to get to know and adapt to the environment of the hospital and learn how different processes work. This is a crucial part of being in the atmosphere of a clinic. Also, the experiences that I will have at the hospital will help me to understand the routines and entailments of the career I would like to pursue. I hope to become a Physician’s Assistant in the future and this will be the best way to know if it is the right position for me. This enrichment of my understanding will help guide my passion for this career path and hopefully strengthen it.
While writing about oneself might be one of the hardest things for some of us to do, I'm sure that figuring out the personality of the person behind the words might be equally as hard. So I'll try to make this as simple yet as comprehensive as possible. I was born in Austria to Somali parents and grew up in Saudi Arabia, went to med school in Sudan and am finally here to practice medicine in Canada. So as you might see, the common question 'Where are you from?' takes a little longer for me to answer as do other Somali refugees around the world and am glad to finally find a place I can truly call home.

Attending a physician 's assistant (PA) program has been my desire since beginning work in the mental health field. I am a licensed professional counselor intern (LPC-Intern) working towards full licensure as a licensed professional counselor (LPC). I conduct individual and group psychotherapy sessions in a private practice and a mental health hospital. I enjoy doing therapy with clients, however, I want to include another perspective into my treatment, the medical perspective.
For years I have dreamt of gaining acceptance into a Physician Assistant (PA) program to continue my journey into medicine. The exhilaration of getting accepted into the University of South Carolina’s Physician Assistant program not only allowed this path to become real, but allowed further planning into my future. With that being said and being the planner that I am, I became intrigued with the options of continuing my Physician Assistant education once I completed the program with potentially enrolling into a residency program. In this paper, I am going to take you through the eye opening details of the Physician Assistant residency option, including topics such as: the history of PA residencies, accreditation process, gaining acceptance into these programs, what these programs entail, the pros and cons of residency programs, and my current opinion after further research.
