Prof. Meeks,
How do not understand how or why Turnitin is saying that my paper is plagiarism. Minus the two cites that I have, everything else is all me. I took my paper through a website that I used to help me with my grammar and it said before I submitted and after I submitted my paper that there were not any plagiarism phrases in my work. So, my question to you, so I don’t not have this happen to me again is, are there any other websites I can run my next paper through to make sure this doesn’t happen to me again? I’m sorry if this is coming off wrong, I’m just a bit discourage that I am being accused by a website of plagiarism and the site I use states otherwise. I will still take attempt to revise my paper and have it turned in to you
Good post, citing sources can be a problem. The GCU libriarians will be happy to assist you with this task. They me helped understand its' importance and how to properly list the citations. I hope they can help, and you are correct the Turnitin tool is a big help against plagarism. It is vital to use the Turnitin tool for all written assignments. Many students have failed a class, or have gotten expelled, all from mistakes and failure to check thier work.
Sarah and Derrick were assigned a group project to create a presentation along with an essay about the ecosystem of sea otters. Sarah told Derrick that she would create the presentation if he wrote the essay. Weeks went by and their deadline grew closer. Derrick told Sarah a that he could not get the essay done because of a family matter, so she would have to finish it. Sarah agreed reluctantly, wrote the essay and created the presentation. While handing in the project Sarah let Derrick write his name on the essay, saying he wrote it himself.
"When plagiarism is a plea for help" written by Helen Rubinsein is an argument focusing on informing the teachers and professors about how to deal with student’s plagiarism, helping and understanding troubles behind them. This article is mainly about an professor’s inner struggles and conflicts with one of his students named Susan. Susan is a student, who always make up excuses for failing to attend class. She was also one of the students who attempted plagiarism. Professor gave Susan a “F” and struggled between whether to report her to the dean or not. After Susan died from overdose drug, professor felt guilty about giving her a “F”, and later noticed the behind meaning of plagiarism is powerless, so why fail them when you can help them pass?
In the editorial article “Why it matters that Mexico’s president is a plagiarist”, Marion Lloyd explains how the allegations against Mexico’s president Enrique Pena Nieto contradict his recent actions taken that are a greater part of his promoted educational reform. Lloyd claims that recent reports by a Mexican journalist accuse President Nieto of plagiarizing portions of his undergraduate thesis. These claims have led to a petition against revoking the president’s degree, which has gained 130,000 signatures since the article was written. Lloyd’s view on the issue is it’s contradiction with President Nieto’s educational reform, a program Lloyd describes as “high-profile”, highlighting its importance and the significance of the controversy
The paper I have written and submitted on 20th November, 2017 (Monday) was flagged as high plagiarism content in Turnitin. The essay has contained a substantial amount copied from other journals.
After watching the video, CBS Morning News “Plagiarism” story, my reaction to what is considered plagiarism was not so surprising. I already knew a lot about this from high school. My school was huge on plagiarism and any papers, or even a 500-word essay, submitted to turnitin.com was checked. Every teacher there had an account for his or her specific subject. If you plagiarized in school it was my understanding, that it was cause for suspension, a zero in that class and you would have to retake it the next year. After reading the review, it helped me a lot to understand why plagiarism is such a crime. There are so many sources available on the internet that explain the way to cite books that are not mine. From my experience, I have already learned to document all information that I retrieve.
I was able to talk with Rachel Azucena few minutes ago, she said that she did not know the term plagiarism, so I explained why plagiarism is bad and has consequences. The idea of a report is to demonstrate that she read the book and that she is able to express (in this case in Spanish) her own understanding/knowledge in writing and not somebody else's. If she wants to use a sentence or paragraph, then she has inform the source/author of it. I suggested her to do more research about Plagiarism. She admitted the she copied one paragraph (the first one), edited and then she presented to her teacher (she also said that maybe it was an accident, but then later she edited and that is the problem), she said that she wrote the other
To tell a story in my words and keep the exact meaning, I must try to understand what is being said and then use the meaning in as few words as possible. Even though, I have paraphrased the material; I still must use proper citation. In an article written by Dahlia Syahrani Md., named “A Different Perspective on Plagiarism”, Cultural views on plagiarism create confusion on the meaning. An example was given regarding a Chinese student who was accused of Plagiarism; the student said that it was a sign of respect for their elders to rewrite the material (Syahrani, 2009). Syahrani (2009), mentions that “text ownership” is a western notion and has three stages. The first stage started with pre- modern era and went into the modern era then
Normally, students will be required to submit their course essays to Turnitin.com for a review of textual similarity and detection of possible plagiarism. In doing so, students will allow their essays to be included as source documents in the Turnitin.com reference database, where they will be used solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism. The terms that apply to the University 's use of the Turnitin.com service are described on the Turnitin.com web site. Students unwilling to submit their papers to Turnitin.com must inform Dr. Parga of that fact at least 1 month before the essay deadline. In that case, students will be required to submit copies of their working notes for their paper, and answer questions on their sources. Essay extensions WILL NOT be granted unless you have a valid reason as determined by the instructor (e.g., an illness that is documented with a doctor 's certificate). Late submissions will accrue a penalty of 5% per day. There is no maximum penalty (i.e., after 20 days a penalty of 100% will be imposed). Students must submit a hard copy of their essay. If a hard copy is not received, students will receive a grade of 0% on their essay, even if they have submitted an electronic version of their paper through Turnitin. Final exam: There will be a final exam held in the August Exam
My experience with Grammarly has been nothing short of amazing. Like many students, I struggle with portraying my ideas and thoughts in a grammatical correct way. With sites like Grammarly and Turnitin, it gives me the confidence to turn in my assignment knowing that I have made the proper steps to create a good paper. I had a different experience using Turnitin. Unlike the dropbox that I am use to using at my prior university, Turnitin is a place where I can safely check my work without being punished for mistakes (Academic Integrity & Turnitin). Turnitin allows students to turn in their course work for feedback on plagiarism and citing. Your work is not saved in this database and you also receive a receipt in your email that your work was safely uploaded and that your feedback is ready to be reviewed (Academic Integrity &
I did well on the quiz because I have learned about plagiarism before. I knew that if anyone quotes a source directly than it must go into quotations and the writer must clearly identify the citation through the essay and a complete bibliographic citation. Most sources are not quoted and are instead paraphrased which does not involved quotations, but it does need to be proper acknowledged through the citation in the essay and bibliography. The one time that you do not have to find a source is when it is common knowledge such as George Washington was the first President of the United States. However, I did learn that a writer must cite a picture properly in their essay or a professor will consider it plagiarism. I did not know this because
The first part of the assignment is to analyze the ethical implications of plagiarism detection services and consider the four ethical standards (rights, justice, utility, and care). Where I will first talk about the issues with plagiarism sites and software. Then how it violates the rights of students and what should be done to reduce plagiarism as much as possible. The second part of the assignment is to write a letter to the administration from the student council and present the findings. I will write a one page letter discussing the positive and negatives of the idea and what the student council thinks about it. Then, being a student, I
“The punishable perils of plagiarism” video talk about different ways of plagiarism and how the D.P.I to catch the people plagiarism. First is “brain child snatching” (2013, Melissa Huseman D’Annunzio) which copy and paste them without any sources. Second is “wild goose chase” (2013, Melissa Huseman D’Annunzio) which fake author, book titles, page numbers and others. Next is “pervasively paraphrased”(2013, Melissa Huseman D’Annunzio). It is taking someone's idea and change to your own words. What is more, it is “wholly quotable document” (2013, Melissa Huseman D’Annunzio) which use too many quotes and almost without your own ideas. In addition, it is “revealing

The Plagiarization of work is so common in everyday work with the advancement of technology and how easily accessible information is. What’s tough is to detect whether the author of the work is intentionally or unintentionally trying to deceive a reader or greater audience.
