The recent undercover video of Planned Parenthood workers discussing the sale of aborted fetus parts has opened up a series of important debates; the most important being the ethics of abortion itself. Abortion is a “war against the unborn” and should be illegal everywhere.
Even with medical advancements the procedure is still a very dangerous procedure that can leave psychological and emotional trauma. Breast cancer, death, infection, frequent miscarriages, suicide, increase in placenta Previa, and ectopic pregnancies are commonplace. “Approximately 20% of women undergoing an abortion suffer from immediate minor complications, and 1/5th considered major complications” (J. Johnson afterabortion.org). “Another 60% of women said they experienced a sequel of suicidal thoughts, along with 28% actually attempting the suicide” (J. Johnson afterabortion.org) all due to feelings of regret and the act of despair. Many women after having an abortion can never even have a child again. Having an abortion can turn into a lifetime worth of burden.

When I was around 8 years old my mom got pregnant with a baby boy, and it excited everyone, especially me. Almost 5 months into her pregnancy my parents began to argue a lot, and my mom thought my dad cheated. She decided to have an abortion without letting anyone in our family know. She just pretended she lost the baby, until several months later when the truth eventually came out. My mom’s decision affected our whole family leaving everyone with unanswered questions, hurt, and heartache. Even my mom too this day experiences challenges living with the fact that she took another life, which led to many months of depression, hurt, and
The practice of abortions throughout the United States are safe. Abortions have become safer since the procedure was reluctantly legalized in the United States-by the Supreme Court-in 1973. According to The American Medical Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs the number of deaths associated with abortion drastically dropped from roughly four out of every one hundred thousand women in 1973 to .6 per every one hundred thousand women in 1997 (Abortion is Safe). These statistics show that procedure in how an abortion is performed has become safer since legalization. Legalization of abortion permitted the procedure to be performed in a sterile setting- such as a hospital operating room. The medical risk associated with an abortion procedure is highly overestimated. An abortion performed exactly as medically advised carries half the risk of a tonsillectomy (Abortion is Safe). (A tonsillectomy is a simple procedure that is performed on many children in their childhood.) On the other hand, anti-abortion advocates point to emotional problems that could harm the pregnant woman after an abortion. These advocates attempt to show there is a link to mental disorders in post abortion women. A New Zealand study looked to verify this claim. The analysis showed that there was a credible link between depression, suicide attempts and substance abuse in post abortion women (Cords). Researchers also aimed to connect having an abortion with post-traumatic stress disorder
Abortion really today has been a very controversial issue in today’s society. An interesting claim within it is that abortion can be done safely through the use of medical abortion and although medical abortions can be safe and trustworthy as experts might say, there still are risks that women will have to face and eventually take after abortion. Major types of risks can be pelvic infections, blood clots in the uterus or maybe a torn cervix. These are just few out of many health problems caused from abortion.
Planned Parenthood is a controversial topic sweeping the nation of America with political and moral issues. Every day one could come across a new article on it, stubble upon a news article in their local paper or even on their local news station. Planned Parenthood directly provides reproductive health services, is involved in teach young students about sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and interacts with legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and developing reproductive rights.
Planned Parenthood has received much controversy that they harvest and sell fetal body parts. Many pro-life members, who believe abortions are wrong, filmed and altered videos of those who did and did not work at Planned Parenthood. In these videos pro-life members recorded and edit they discussed the services Planned Parenthood provides. In the article titled Dispelling
The U.S. Senate blocked a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and channel federal dollars to other health care providers and community health centers that do not perform abortions on Monday.
Another issue that could lead to a civil rights movement is with our new President Donald Trump and where he stands on abortion and the funding of Planned Parenthood. This brings up controversy because on the more right side, people’s argument is that you are essentially ending a human life with getting an abortion. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider and has more than 7 million pre-born babies that have died as a result of the mothers visiting. The argument for the left is that Planned Parenthood is the country’s leading provider of reproductive health care. If it stops receiving federal funding it could have millions of women, men, and young people from live-saving preventive care: cancer screenings, breast exams,
California Attorney General Kamala Harris sent agents to raid the home of anti-abortion activist who was behind the undercover videos allegedly showing the sale of fetal tissues by Planned Parenthood.
Planned parenthood is an organization that provides reproductive care to those who can not afford to pay for the health care being given to them. Planned Parenthood allows women to have abortions after unplanned pregnancy. Many believe that Planned Parenthood funds should be decreased or just have that ability completely taken away because planned parenthood is already paid for and people sometimes just abuse the power and it takes more money out of taxpayers pockets even if they don’t use it. If the mistake is made, then they deal with the mistake instead of having other people to pay for it. Yet, some believe to want Planned Parenthood and give certain rights to the women.
Planned parenthood was established in 1916 in Brownsville, Brooklyn by Sanger, Byrne, and Mindell; their goal was to educate individuals and give them the necessary care that they would need. By doing so they gave millions of people a second chance to live and continue to gather opportunities because they allowed them to have control over their lives. They fought to give women the right to contraception, starting off with the Griswold v. Connecticut that allowed married women to utilize birth control. Statistics show that one out of four married women under the age 45 decided to use birth control. Planned Parenthood did not stop there, they eventually in 1972 Eisenstaedt v. Baird made it so unmarried women are a loud contraception (Planned Parenthood Is 100 Years Strong).
However, within the last decade, wrath from the opposition has heightened even more so with a focus on abortions and fetal tissue (Devi, 2015). Anti-abortionists demand an end to federal and state funding for Planned Parenthood and to push their agenda, they misconstrue the truth to create an outrage within the uninformed mass population (Devi, 2015). One common misconception due to fabrication is the percentage of abortions Planned Parenthood provides annually; Republican Jon Kyl alleged that abortions constitute “well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood provides,” (Speer, 2013). This accusation could not be any further from the truth; abortions comprise of a maximum of 3% of the services they provide, a far cry from the alleged 90% (Devi, 2015). In actuality, the services that Planned Parenthood provides for the majority are as follows: screenings for the three main cancers women face (cervical, ovarian, and breast), STD testing and treatments, contraceptives, and general reproductive health care and education (White et al., 2015). Following the blatant lies about abortion procedures, the same pattern can be seen in the latest controversy against Planned Parenthood: fetal
October 16, 1916 was the day that Planned Parenthood was founded. Over the years, this nonprofit organization has grown in more ways than one. When abortion was legalized, Planned Parenthood then began to administer these abortions and give more information towards this service. Many people refer to Planned Parenthood as an abortion clinic because of how many they administer and because that is what they are mostly known for. Abortion has gradually grown more common and is seen as an action that you shouldn’t be ashamed of, when it used to be illegal. My question is, how many women go to Planned Parenthood not expecting to get an abortion, and leave with the idea that it would be a better choice to abort the child? If Planned Parenthood wants
Have you ever wanted a child? For those that are not dealing with pregnancy, this is a very simple question, that can be answered with only a, “Yeah, having one wold be neat in the future,” or, “No thanks, I don’t really like kids,” But what about those that are pregnant? Having this question of whether or not someone truly wants a child or not can be very complicated for those that maybe aren’t financially stable, have been sexually assaulted and the child is a result of that, or maybe, its just that the person isn’t ready. For those that are not equipped for such a task of responsibility, what would they do? There are several possible options that could be done for those that do not want to have children, or for those that are pregnant but
In July of two thousand and fifteen, there was a leaked video of some of Planned Parenthood employees in Colorado Springs, Colorado discussing selling aborted fetus parts over lunch. This has stirred up many controversial debates and opinions on if the United States government should stop their funding toward the organization. Abortion and abortion services have been a big debate between Americans on whether it should be legal or not. Now there is a recent debate on whether or not the fetus shown in the video was an aborted fetus, or simply a
She stood in a giant crowd, that stood as one. Coming from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures, they merged together like a raging tsunami. They screamed at the top of our lungs, not to draw attention but to be heard. In front of Capitol, she realized they were all pushing for the same rights, for the right to health care and bodily rights.
After a diagnosis of a brain tumor, my mother contemplated an abortion. However, my traditional grandmother who held strong convictions against the killing of any life, advocated to keeping the baby, which saved my life. This fact was unknown to me until I overheard a conversation between my mother and a relative. Upon hearing this, my self-esteem collapsed. I felt the need to overcompensate for any disappointment that I might have unintentionally caused. Any reassurance from my family did not comfort me because deep down I knew I was unwanted. My parents already had two “perfect” children, so my role in the family was questionable and at my lowest point, I even battled suicidal thoughts. It was a fight that I never knew I would face.
