Planning for a big sporting event is an event that must be detailed, organized, and one that is ready to take any problems that might arise. The planning of any tournament is an event that hosts all the teams of the area that have progressed through their district. This in itself is an event, is one that is big due to a number of teams and the amount of work that goes into them to make sure that all is ready to host. This event spans over a few days but takes a season to plan, organize, and pull off effectively. The cities and the sports association put in their application in hopes of gaining the tournament, for if won this will boost them economically and bring more positive outlook to the place that is being hosted. With all these fine details gone over, made sure all the t’s are crossed and the I’s dotted, it can leave a positive mark on the city so that more people come. If this tournament fails and all the details are not fine tuned, it will hurt the tournament along with the city that is hosting the event. Once the bid has been accepted, months to the year depending on the event, the city, and the sports association will be notified. Once, notified the wheels to start turning in order to prep for this event. While the planning has begun, there has already been something in place that helps the event on a huge note. Good management has been put in place, as a backup if chosen, this has already done the part of appropriate work is that of the applications that come
It is evident that hosting the Olympics games is no walk in the park. The countries trusted with this task have to spend billions to make the games a reality. Some people believe that the countries, even after spending billions of dollars benefit from the games, while others believe that the money can be spent elsewhere more efficiently. To reach a conclusion, one must study all of the different impacts in all of the different sectors the games have.
Develops long term plans to determine need for and feasibility of constructing or upgrading athletic facilities.
There are direct impacts to the environment for every sport event that happened, be it small scale or global. Mega –sport events are progressing every now and then since they are stimulators of major programs of improvement and regeneration for means of expressing the personality and enhancing the status of cities that are holding these events. Mega-sport events are then catalysts of development and change of the venues both in the local and national level (James and Dodours,
Athletic events aren’t always held at traditional arenas. Those venues may cost far more money than an amateur sports team (and some professional teams) could possibly afford.
The issue at hand, however, is that power has shifted from the cities to the teams themselves. Professional athletic organizations have started taking advantage of cities by threatening to relocate unless they get public subsidies for expensive stadium renovations and construction. With this in mind it is imperative to ask today’s question: Do public subsidies for professional athletic organizations benefit their local community?
As the city’s population expanded, finding enough space for these sports became an issue. Hockey was played on frozen lakes, and baseball diamonds were constructed in city parks. But basketball courts became an issue. While there were plenty of gymnasiums in Edina and the surrounding cities youth basketball associations did not want to share “their courts” (despite the fact that most of the courts belonged to private gyms or to the school district). These associations petitioned to the Edina School Board for more basketball courts, promising political support for the elected members of the school board. The school board agreed and, after much consideration, chose the fields behind the high school and nearest to my home as the location for a new fitness center, complete with eight more basketball
An entertainment or sports event, such as the MLB World Series, has a direct economic impact on the city that hosts the event because the city that hosts events such as these has to go through a series of new expenses and spending in order to be prepared for tourists. For instance, if a city is hosting the MLB World Series, the city is expected to have people from other cities, or even other countries looking for a place to stay during that given period of time. Therefore, companies such as hotels have to undergo a certain amount of spending to make sure that they have enough resources to meet the needs of these tourists. Another example, is that when an event such as the Super Bowl in the NFL occurs in a city, there are certain requirements
Another prevention strategy used in mega-sporting events is law enforcement. In this context, law enforcement primarily refers to the local police. Law enforcement is considered one of the most basic forms of prevention, as sex-trafficking is in itself a crime (Perrin, 2007). However, there are many complications that can arise from it.
Since the move toward an NCAA Division 1 program in 2008, FGCU Athletics showed how quickly it was able to adapt to a more competitive league by finishing their debut year with three A-Sun Conference championships along with setting several NCAA records. The school came close to defeating the University of Florida in the women's basketball NIT tournament, and the baseball team almost defeated the University of Miami, which ranked

With over two hundred countries participating, the Olympic Games is easily considered as one of the largest multisport event known to history. The Olympics are held at a different country, and even more rarely at the same city. For a country to be chosen to host the Olympics, the country’s National Olympic Committee (the country’s representatives for the Olympics) nominates a city (from the country they represent) that they think has potential in hosting the Olympics nine years prior to when they wish to host the Olympics. It is a two year process that consists of: Application Phase, Candidate Phase and the Election of the Host City. The country that wins the election is given seven years to prepare for the Olympics. After the 1984 Los Angeles Games showed for the first time that mega-events could produce an economic surplus, mega-sport events, particularly the Olympic Games, acquired central status for city and national government development agendas (Andranovich, Burbank and Heying, 2001). And the appeal of hosting a mega-event, or more specifically a mega-sport event, has grown significantly over the
The Olympic Games is one of the biggest and most unrivaled sporting events in the entire world. At first it may seem like a huge plus or advantage for a city or nation to host this event. However on the contrary there are a lot of negative aspects that occur when a nation hosts this event. While the event is taking place, from the outside it looks like a state of the art, prestigious event that it is. Some of the problems that are caused by hosting Olympic games deal with, stadium development, local resident life, security issues, and many others that will be discussed. One of the big problems when dealing with a mega event such as the Olympic Games is the stadiums, which get built, and how they get abandoned or not used after the games are finished. This is one of the major problems surrounding the Athens 2004 games. Many of the stadiums and infrastructure are left untouched and abandoned to this day.
Planning and managing a sport venue during any event can be challenging even to the most seasoned facility managers. There are many factors that a facility manager must consider in order to ensure the event is a success. Success of an event can be measured in many ways across a wide array of topics; two of which are crowd management and alcohol management. Having a solid plan and operational controls in place for both can lead to a fun and safe environment for all parties involved with any event.
