The further development of industrialisation led to social and economic inequality. This led to a revision of classical liberal ideas to prevent the spread of ignorance and poverty. It is suggested that modern liberals have betrayed classical liberal ideas as they embrace collectivism and diverge from classical liberalism on issues such as freedom. There are three political ideologies that are addressed by Cullen and Gilbert (2012). The first one is the conservative ideology. Conservatives place their main emphasis on traditional values, and tend to have issues when someone tries to change tradition. According to conservatives, maintaining social order is an important way to protect society as a whole. Individuals are on their own when it comes to the ideology of conservatives. They have the assumption that individuals are responsible for their own actions, good or bad. Conservatives will protect innocent citizens, but will focus on the punishment of guilty one rather than rehabilitation.

Liberal Perspective: For the liberal’s perspective they believe in equal opportunity and equal rights for everyone. Liberals are mainly democratic, which is why some of the things that democrats believe, they believe as well, mainly because both of those parties think the system should help more. For example, when it comes to homelessness from both a democratic and liberal stand view you can see that they both are in the interest of helping them. However, in a liberal’s eye, they believe that social issues happen because there should be more help from the system as far as funding goes.

With the myriad of philosophical differences that occur between the two sides, it is expected for people who belong to each school of thought to vote for, and against, certain measures. Liberals, for example, are more likely to vote for issues that grant more freedom to individuals in their personal lives. They are also more likely to allocate government money for support services for the needy. During the Industrial revolution many people started to believe in the idea of Liberalism. At times it was difficult. People were imprisoned or persecuted because of their ideas. Liberals and conservatives greatly differ in opinion. Liberals tend to be more open-minded and believe it is the duty of the government to provide equality to all. The political ideology that best represents my views is liberalism. Liberalism is an ideology that emphasizes, “cultural diversity, government programs for the needy, public intervention in the economy, and individuals’ rights to a lifestyle based on their own social and moral positions” (Morone & Kersh, 2014, p. 37). Capitalists and supporters of democracy believe that socialism and modern liberalism are detrimental to economic progress. Because prices of goods and wage of workers is controlled directly by the government, privately-owned companies and institutions cannot flourish under a socialist or modern liberalist government. People who value freedom of speech and human rights likewise oppose socialism and modern liberalism, because they believe that such ideologies limit a citizen’s right to choose which products to buy, what job to take, what religious belief to espouse. Even though modern liberalism is more subtle and suave than socialism, it still ends up giving too much power to the government in the guise of economic, political, and social security.
