Pop music nowadays can be very vulgar, such as lyric meaning, music video content, and stage apparel. One can attend a Lady Gaga concert and watch her perform in just her underwear. If you watch a Nicki Minaj music video, not only will you be scared for live, but her video content could count as pornography. Many songs on the radio have curse words or relate to sex. It bothered me that my little sister who was 9 at the time knew all the lyrics to Lil Wayne’s song Lollipop, which is a provocative song about sex. I understand that these musicians need to earn money and want to be the next big thing, but I think they could find a better approach to fame. With the display of these pop stars are these young people who watch them and want to be just like these …show more content…

I’m not too sure if I could argue that this is because of pop culture, but I do think the media displays bad language all the time. I do not find it entertaining when I hear a little kid drop the F bomb, I think it is very

Music is such a constant in society that exposure to one genre and it’s way of communicating has a subconscious effect on the way people communicate with each other. The Greek Philosopher Plato wrote “forms and rhythms in music are never altered without producing changes in the entire fabric of society” (Chirico, “When Lyrics Were Clean”). Words that would have been completely shocking to people in the past are becoming more acceptable and widely used in everyday life due to the mainstream media’s use of profanity. Vulgar language is seen as commonplace in the music of today which translates to its commonality in everyday conversation. Some artists today actually take advantage of how the masses respond to sexual images and simply promote stereotypes without actually being experienced in the field of work that they are involved in. Many mediocre singers become great overnight because they focus on having the public associate them with extremely sexual messages. Could music be dehumanizing our society? today’s music has a negative impact towards our generation believe it or not. Since society now perceives drugs, alcohol, gangs, violence, sex and having women as something normal when it’s really not has misguided the youth. The rappers and their music have misguided today’s teens into believing that if you dont have money, women, drugs and etc you’re not living life correctly. It not only the rappers to be blame and their music but the parents who don’t take action in raising their kids correctly and being kept updated with them. Although it might seem as blaming would fix the problem it’s not possible if nothing is being done to stop the youth from thinking such way.
