America is too focused on bogus Trap artists, and the way that they portray the celebrity lifestyle. We have Teenagers that are currently in Middle School and High School that presume that money will come easy to them without putting in the hard work first. This is a result of trappers who push the idea on to them that money is the only way to be happy. The way these celebrities push this idea is through social media, which is another problem that consumes too much of our youth’s time.
People are too invested in their cyber lives more than their real lives. I know people who would rather sit at home to browse Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram than going outside to hang out with real people. This problem ties in with the celebrity lifestyle in the way that people let a number define

Now, I’m not talking about the deep kind of Makes-You-Think-About-Your-Life style of Hip Hop that we know and love (J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac.. etc); I’m talking about the “Write a song in two hours for the sole purpose of being played on the Top 40 radio station” kind of Rap. These artists are the ones that talk about the same subject in each of their songs, which is usually drugs, money, and sex. Teenagers really look up to these people, and when they’re making music videos of themselves flailing their fat stacks of money around in the air while behind tons of reverb and auto-tune, it gives kids the impression that money comes easy and they won’t have to work for anything, making them envious of their lifestyle. These celebrities make up a fair share of social media focus, which causes even more people to look up to them. My advice to these kids listening to these bogus rappers would be to educate yourself on the genre that is known as hip-hip, and look
One of the main reasons why I don’t like hip-hop is because it's sending a bad message to younger generations. Everytime I seem to listen to hip-hip it's always talking about how you're going to harm someone or do drugs. So this is causing younger kids to make bad choices based on what they hear.
For many years, the youth have been known for singing along to their favorite song and taking that song as whole and using it as their motto for life. It may seem that sometimes these kids do not know what is being said in the music but this shows that they do know what the lyrics are saying. According to Franklin B. Krohn and Frances L. Suazo in their article “Contemporary Urban Music: Controversial Messages in Hip-Hop and Rap Lyrics,” many teenagers and minority groups view rappers as their spokesmen because of their ability to speak in street language and bluntly express their frustration (Krohn, 1995). Unfortunately, hip hop lyrics usually tend to talk about drugs, sex and violence leading kids to think that everything they hear is okay and that is how they have to live their life. Yet, there are artists out there who take their lyricist skills to give positive lyrics and messages in their music, but these songs are not often played in the mainstream.
Whether you love it or hate it Rap music has come to be one of the most popular, yet arguable, music genres of the past decades. Today’s rap music has changed enormously since the 1970’s. Rap music was about having fun, being able to express what youth were feeling and a way to keep youth out of trouble. Rap songs usually use explicit and demeaning lyrics, which has huge influence on the youth of today. While rappers say that they’re plainly rapping about reality. They often use violence, the use of drugs and Guns as the main tool to tell the story of their lives and show how hard it is growing up in their neighbourhood. This surely does not set any good examples for the young men and women, listening to this trash and singing along with the
Hip hop has clearly influenced our society in a controversial way. Although people don't like the negative influence hip hop can have on their young, it’s an industry that is growing commercially. Legally, there isn't much that can be done about an artists’ expression, but education and parental guidance will reduce the impact of hip hop’s negative
The majority of the rap/hip-hop listeners are young adults and children. Not only do their lyrics glamorize the use of alcohol and illegal drugs. Some of this music is horridly filled with slurs. The New York Times acknowledges that “Americans from ages 15 to 18 listening to 2.4 hours of music a day hear 84 references to substances daily and more than 30,000 annually. About two-thirds of the references put drugs, alcohol and tobacco in a positive light by associating them with sex, partying and humor, the study said.” Three Six Mafia is probably the worst one with songs like Money, Weed, Blow and When the Smoke Clears. Three Six Mafia is a rap/hip-hop band from the east coast. They are an award winning rap group. Winning music Grammy’s and even an Oscar for the song, “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” from the movie, “Hustle and Flow.” They have been featured in several of their own DVD’s, in addition to their music in several feature films. Their music has found its way into numerous television shows. The biggest influential item they have other than their mainstream music, is that they have songs in several video games. Children are the majority of the gamers out there, so it is just one more way for them to be influenced by this genre of music. They even have Money, Weed, Blow as a ringtone. Rappers are definitely putting their success way before being decent
In addition to increasing awareness of issues that are going on in America, Hip Hop gives youth a needed outlet from their lives and an outlet for self-expression. Many hip hop artists rap and talk Their poverty and daily struggles they experienced while growing up in an inner-city America. Many rappers like Kanye West and Logic now use their platform to talk about rising to the top and the obstacles they overcame. Those messages implanted in the music give hope to younger kids going through the same situation. For example, when an artists talks and raps about their distressed childhood with drug-addicted and abusive parents. A kid going through the same situation and get through it easier and see that if this person made it out so can I. When
Sex,Drugs and Money are biggest topics of modern day hip hop. They've been pretty popular topics in rock, pop, and dance, too, topics amuse and entertain popular music consumers. They buy the stuff that amuses them, and musical artists who want to make money cater to their tastes.Because sex drugs and money sell. Young people find these topics exciting and young people have the most disposable income. If that's the trend now then generations are growing up on some horrible music. The type of music young adults is unsanitary and overwhelmingly disgusting to the millennials. Furthermore young adults should be tired of hearing the same topic it should have became banal by now.
Singers often get asked how they feel about their songs, when they respond with a “well it’s a selling hit” they tended to forget that all of those people are youth members and we need to teach them to love and not to rebel. Most hip hop singers make millions of dollars on there albums and don’t really care on what the words say or how it makes people feel. This can make a minor insurgent against older and more responsible people. Since the 1980’s, hip-hop has changed the way people think, but not always in a positive manner. Hip-hop has been a trend setter and has guided our culture over the last couple of decades. Unfortunately, corporate sales have taken over the content of hip hop music, motivating artists to take different approaches to
With rap singers bragging about experimenting with drugs, their new Nike shoes, or the fight they got into last week it seems to become obvious where teens
Each and every child (teenagers included) that listens to artists like Lil’ Wayne, Fetty Wap, Drake, Kodak Black, or any similar rapper, will more than likely be influenced by them in an extremely negative way. It does not matter where you are from, what color your skin is, or how much money you have, modern rap is poisoning the minds of all who listen to it, and if things do not change soon, it is unlikely that race relations in America will ever improve past the point that they are at
Although most hip hop artist and their music usually consist references to drugs and girls there are artists that use hip hop to express himself to the public and to send them a message. For example people like eminem who rap about their problems and how people are trying to hurt them he doesn't just rap to rap about stupid things he
Though rap started out as a force for positive social change, popular subgenres of hip-hop such as "gangsta rap" have since eroded much of the art form's value to society. Impressionable young people are negatively affected by rappers' obsession with guns, drugs, sex, and material possessions. Since record companies do not seem to care about negative content as long as it sells albums, parents should assume a greater role in regulating their children's listening habits. Hip-Hop is the proclamation that young people are independent and intolerant of what they consider to be adult society, which they frequently view as hypocritical.
What pops into your mind first when you think of popular culture in today’s day and age? The latest dirt on celebrities or the latest iPhone release? The latest controversial issue or the latest iTunes hit? Regardless, pop culture encompasses all four of these concepts and many more, which consume the world we live in each and every day. Think about education. At first thought, your mind may not make the connection between the newest Taylor Swift song and the highest ACT score, but the linkage between the two becomes undeniable when you dive deeper. Ponder this: each day millions of kids walk into school buildings across the United States, each of them glued to a little slice of pop culture, a.k.a. their phone. And each day these millions
The study of popular culture is useful in many ways. To be more specific, this course has reached its three intended main ideas: what it means to be American, how to be more consumption-conscious, and how to apply these studies in our own lives. Jim Cullen puts this in a less specific sense, arguing that the study of popular culture can “afford valuable clues – about collective fears, hopes, and debates” (Cullen, The Art of Democracy, 2). We use these clues to understand the world around us, as well as why we do what we do as Americans and as humans. I will be touching on themes that relate to this quotation by Cullen, escapism, exploitation, and globalization, as well as how these themes relate to the course goals.
Popular culture is a term that holds various meanings depending on where it 's being defined and the context of its use. It is usually recognized as the language or people’s culture that prevails in a society at a point in time. As social researcher Brummett explains in his book “Rhetorical Dimensions of Popular Culture”, pop culture reflects the characteristics of social life, where the publicly are most actively involved. Popular culture is known as the ‘culture of the people’. This culture is determined by the interactions between people within their daily activities, for instance, dressing styles, use of language, greeting rituals and the ways that people behave in public, etc. are all examples of popular culture. Popular culture is also diverted by the mass media (Abbott and Sapsford, 1987).
