Did you know the nickname for the 1920s was “The silent era and pre talkies?” (1920s film history). That was a period of prosperity and social change. From the new fashion statement of short skirts and hair, to the growth of sports and the start of the Jazz era of music. The 1920s was one of the most important decades of time. A lot of things happened and started to trend, But the one that stood out to me the most is the historical, political, and social events in theatre, film, and television in the 1920s. The movie industry unquestionably started to boom by the mid 1920s. Movies had a capital investment of 2 million dollars and had theatres that could fit over 5,ooo. Now do not get me wrong we can not forget about musicals that were just as popular.(Maitland 100-101). Musicals and movie theatres were great ways that people would spend their free time. Also another popular thing going on was the introducing of radio broadcasting in 1920 it was a great way to start off the Decade. First off the Great Depression impacted movies and musicals because once that stock market crashed nobody had money to attend the plays. So the business slowly started to go down and investors lost a lot of money. Another thing is women’s rights really had an impact on everything because it was the talk of the town on radio broadcasting so the views went up. Another result of the 19th amendment there were movies and musicals made about that. Also last but not least, when Mickey mouse was introduced it helped theatre and musicals go back up. Since the Great Depression was still in effect theatre was mainly for those who had more money.(1920s musical theatre).
Like I said the 1920s stood out to me the most with the positive and negative impacts it had on the historical, political, and social events that happened. we talked about a few of the events such as the Great Depression, Women’s right to vote, and Mickey Mouse being introduced.
